Blake Lewis Top 4

American Idol last night was kinda Suck City. Seriously, I love me some Barry Gibb and I realize he is a songwriting mastermind but there was just something off with having the Final 4 perform ONLY song written by Barry Gibb.

That being said, I sang my heart out to each and every song. Like I said, I’m a child of the late 70’s, early 80’s and there was nothing better than popping the Saturday Night Fever LP onto the turntable in our console stereo that took up 95% of our living room. The Bee Jees, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, REO, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Dolly and Kenny… these are the albums I remember my parents playing on that damn stereo and I hold a soft spot for them all.

I hate HATE HATE to say it but Jordin Sparks kicked some ass last night. It’s good to know that not only is she fighting for God and Fetuses, she’s fighting for her life in this competition. I didn’t want to like her and I didn’t want to vote for her after the whole Pro-Life revelation but damnit, she took a coat hanger to those other contestants last night! (I had to… sorry)

I completely disagree with the Judges on her second song “Woman in Love” and think she nailed it (go ahead, click on the link and visit Rickey and listen again, amazing). Not only was it a powerhouse performance, it was full of emotion. You could see that she felt every word she sang, and in doing so, she added a sadness to the song that many performers wouldn’t have been able to pull off.

Lakisha and Melinda were fine. I think that Melinda did a better job than Lakisha this week but didn’t come close to touching Jordin’s spark. Lakisha was good, again I don’t know that I agree with the Judges on all their criticism but it was not her best night.

That leads us to my boy Blake Lewis. While I love him more and more each week with every gayer look, performance, and being he brings I found it hard to love love love him last night. I still love him, don’t get me wrong. He’s got an ass that won’t quit, a homoerotic friendship with Chris (hell, they call them CAKE), and seriously the boy can blow. Wait, what?

I love Blake’s talent, I love his originality but I don’t think he’s got the best voice. He’s the best entertainer left in the bunch and there is no denying he’s an unbelievable musician but I don’t know that he can pull it off in the end. I 100% disagree with the Judges on his second song “This is Where I Come In.” I thought it was the perfect arrangement for his style and his voice. It was a Blaker song, period. Oh, but damn if “You Should Be Dancing” wasn’t the worst thing I’ve heard in decades.

SAVE MY BLAKE, BABY! Remember Juliana and her Blake Babies? Loved them…

Okay. I didn’t want to say it but thankfully you did. Blakes performances ARE getting gayer aren’t they? and what was with the blond streak this week? or that half argyle shirt?
