The Ghost Whisperer is entering its third season over on CBS and for the life of me I can’t figure out who the hell is actually watching this show.   Sure Jennifer Love Hewitt has a diverse following but to my knowledge these folks are not the demo the shows catering to.

You have those of us that loved her as Sarah, Bailey’s on again and off again love on Party of Five.  You have those that still know what she did last summer.  You have those oddballs that love her “music” and then you have those that love her two humongous… eyes.  The horndog males heart Love’s greatest assets.

So we’re talking females and gay males between 28-35 for Po5 and IKWYDLS.  The deaf folks for her music (ages unknown because not enough records were ever sold to chart that sort of thing) and males 18-40 for those two Golden Globes of hers.  Are any of these people home on a Friday night?

Okay, so I am and I fall into the first category but I swear I’ve only watched this show once.  I’m not lying, shut up!  Once and that was with fellow blogger Rae while we were in Vancouver visiting the set of Supernatural.   We were waiting to go out for dinner and somehow got sucked into this web of crap that The Ghost Whisperer is spinning.

First off, what the hell is the tone of this show supposed to be?  It’s so not supernatural in tone and it doesn’t even seem to fit into the drama mold either.  It seems a tad bit lame quasi-wacky screwball comedy mixed with really forced dramatic flair. Love is all over the place personality wise, Camryn Manheim is pointless on the show (and from The Practice and Romy & Michelle days, I love me some CamMan) and seems like the dippiest spaz since Screech.  Then there’s the once pretty and once Ducky obsessed David Conrad.  I love love loved this guy back in the mid-90s when he was on Relativity.  Here he just looks old and bored.  Is he the only one besides Jay Mohr that knows she can do what she can do?

And what is it that she can do?  I’ve seen no whispering and she ain’t had a lease to any of these ghosts like Cesar Milan so I don’t know what this whole Whispering deal is.

Someone please tell me the appeal of this show and if you watch it, please leave your age and demo in the comments section.  This things a mystery I can’t crack.

Male age 55 and to old to care much about your opinion however, I do like GW and if you had watched more than one show you might appreciate it more.

JLH has her Love lovers that would watch her eat breakfast but the ratings say something else is going on here.

Watch GW again, you might find something to like.

Thanks for the demo info Dale. Seriously though the joys of tv are wondering who’s watching what.

You really need to watch the DVD of the first season to get the show. It’s sort of like “Touched by an Angel” meets “Sixth Sense.” It’s all about appreciating the people you love and leaving no unfinished business -with some really great scares thrown in.

By the way I am a female in the 18-49 age bracket, and I have at least a dozen friends/co-workers who love the show and TiVo it if they aren’t home on Friday.

I too am a female in the 18-49 demo and I love this show. And I agree with everyone else, it’s not really fair to base a show on watching one episode. I gave this show a shot even though I wasn’t a Love fan beforehand and I enjoyed it and kept tuning in.

I can guarantee I will not watch this show. You know how there are things that are right up your alley and then some that you will just never watch no matter what? Yeah, TGW falls into that category.

I’m also that person that refused to watch Gilmore Girls for 7 years even though I know I would have probably loved it. Just ’cause…

Another female in the 18-49 demo. I am 34, married, with two kids and happen to really enjoy Ghost Whisperer. I have watched every episode. I can’t explain the attraction though. It seems to balance the supernatural aspect with some mystery and heartwarming stories without going overboard with any of those aspects and changing things up enough to keep me interested. It also helps that it is on Fridays without much of any competition, and I am usually home since I have young children. It is one of the few shows that my husband doesn’t complain about either because even though he doesn’t watch it, he likes to walk by and see her ‘girls’ on the screen.

  7. dan says:

LOL SpacyZ. Love that your husbands into the girls! That’s pretty funny.

Well I am a 40 male and I am one of those that would watch Jennifer Love Hewitt eat her breakfest are anything else for that matter lol
But my wife got me hooked on GhostWhisperer The first 1-2 times I watched it I could not get into it but once you watch a few of the episodes
And get a feel of what the show is about and the cast it is really a good show,
I like it so much I own all the seasons and watch the show every friday night
I am not Gay or a female I am a married guy who loves the show.
With no disrespect intended how can you try and judge a show off of one night?

I would suggest you at least if you cared goto youtube and watch some of the chips there and you would be like the rest of us and be hooked.
I think the show is doing very well in ratins that would not be if it was a crap show.
