As fast as I wasn’t excited for MOONLIGHT on CBS, I was when they fired half the cast and decided to do a major reshoot of the pilot. Added were Jason Dohring and Shannyn Sossamon and Exec. Producer David Greenwalt, a winning combo! The vampire private investigator that sounded like a rehash all the sudden had bite.
How sad was I when yesterday we find out that David Greenwalt had to drop out of the show for medical reasons? I couldn’t wait to see how Joel Silver handled this information at the Moonlight panel and seeing Jason Dohring again wasn’t bad either.
The panel began with an extended Interview with a Vampire (you’ve seen parts of it on CBS already I’m sure). This lasted a good 5 minutes and had clips thrown in to accompany some of the answers that lead vamp Mick St. John talks about. This clip had the entire place sold instantly. It’s such a funny and witty promo piece that really gives you great insight into the character of Mick. I also like to think that it says a lot for the show as a whole.
He’s sassy, witty, dangerous, cocky as hell and seriously damn good looking. Actor Alex O’Laughlin is one fine piece of Aussie ass! He’s a doppleganger for Patrick Dempsey but with fangs instead of a scalpel. The show looks dark, romantic, action packed, hip, and incredibly cool. It’s about time we had a new vamp fix. Angel’s been gone way too long! Can I get an AMEN?
A quick break down of the characters:
Mick St. John, our lead vamp detective. He was sired 50 years ago on his wedding night by his wife Coraline (Sossamon). Mick likes to help people, obviously there are some allusions to Angel but this show does look completely different, I promise you. So he’s doing the private investigator thing and refusing to kill humans for food, okay so it does sound like Angel.
Beth Turner (Sophia Myles) is an internet crime reporter who has some connection to Mick (not given away at the panel) and she gets her leads from Lt. Carl Davis (Brian White)
Dohring is Joseph, a 400 year old vamp who’s very cultured, full of himself, high on life and whores while being a hedge fund trader by day and fangy by night. Coraline is as old as Joseph but apparently is a ruthless cut-throat blood whore.
We’re still not completely sure where the show will go in the future. The tone seems to be a little playful while still being a vampire/crime show. They hope to balance comedy, action, horror and romance and seriously I’m all about it!
Both Alex O’Laughlin and his character Mick are so damn charming. Alex was very funny during the panel discussion and so at ease up there in front of these already crazed fans. Big shout out to the LJ Girls that staked out the front section and who made Jason Dohring a rock star today!
Dohring was calm, cool, collected, and hot as usual. He’s still sporting that wedding ring, sorry gals! He’s psyched to be playing a 400 year old version of Logan Echolls! Joel Silver wanted Jason cast because he was not done having Logan in his life. Honestly, none of us are!
While the show’s pilot is still being reshot right now, they really seemed really excited about the work being done and the direction of the show. I saw Vamps, Veronica Alums, Hot boys, and witty banter… I’m So There!
MOONLIGHT will air Friday nights at 9pm on CBS.

Hey Ducky! It was nice to meet you this weekend.
Quick edit to this, Jason’s character is Josef, not Joseph.

I think the show is AWESOME, as my grandson says. Really a good show which I continue to watch via the net. Actors are excellent and I can hardly wait until next Friday.
