KYLE XY is speeding toward it’s Mid-Season Finale on September 3rd and to get everyone geared up to see what happens, MATT DALLAS sat down with a handful of us bloggers to answer some burning questions.

Matt Dallas, Kyle XY Photo Season 2 Interview

I must first say that Matt came across nothing like his character Kyle. His tone and inflection is much more upbeat and animated than Kyle’s (he of few words) and he was incredibly entertaining to chat with. Gotta say that the TV Crush spiked a little more than it already was.

The interview that follows contains mild spoilers for the last few episodes in the first half of Season 2. You’ve been warned spoilerphobes…

Question: What can we expect as the first half of the season comes to an end?

Matt Dallas: This year they’ve really explored his abilities and what he’s capable of. They’ve raised the bar as far as the stories and mysteries; the relationships are deeper.

Question: Which of Kyle’s abilities would you most like and why?

MD: His holographic memory because it’s almost like traveling back in time and he can really visualize what happened.

Question: What differences are there between Season 1 vs. Season 2 as the show has gone success-wise as well as with your character?

MD: The show has definitely matured as well as the character. They’ve really taken everything and deepened it while at the same time managing to keep what made the show so appealing in the first season and that’s a lot of what makes Kyle so naive and young and keeping his unique view - the way he perceives the world.

Question: What’s been the most interesting character development for you (Kyle) between Season 1 and Season 2? Also, are there any new abilities coming up that we’ve not yet seen?

MD: What’s interesting about Kyle is that he’s constantly growing and developing and constantly changing with every episode so to really get to build his character is such a really unique experience.

As far as new abilities this season that haven’t aired yet… you know right now they’re really trying to take all of the things he’s capable of and taking them to the next level. So there’s not so many new ones but we’re taking the ones he’s discovered and really finding out what the purpose of that is and what he can do with them. They’re also really working on what Jessi’s capable of and at what level and what extent she’s capable of everything. We see Kyle doing all these amazing things and with Jessi having been in the pod longer than Kyle was, they’re really playing with the fact that she might be more progressed than he is.

Question: I was at Comic-Con a couple weeks ago, could you have ever imagined that you would have this enormous fan base that almosttrampled me at Comic-Con?

MD: No, never. When I first signed on, I thought it would be small show on ABC Family and with them redeveloping their network it’s been a huge surprise for everyone and the show ended up being a hit. It’s really been so amazing to go to things like Comic-Con and meet that fans that are so invested in you and the stories and it’s been daunting and surprising and so wonderful.

How do you deal with showing up to a room of 4000 people?

MD: Yeah, it’s funny because when we were about to go on stage at Comic-Con and we saw the size of the room and the amount of people in the room for our panel we were kind of blown away. April turns to me when they were all just applauding for us to come in and April’s like “Oh My God, all these people are here for us!” I’m like, “I know can you believe it?” And she’s like, “This is crazy?”

So it’s been overwhelming but at the same time so flattering. It’s so neat to have that connection and I have to say, to be at Comic-Con at that panel was one of the most amazing experiences ever because the connection I have with those fans is out of this world!

Question: Can you tell us what it’s been like working with Jessie Alexander this season and how it’s been working with someone new on the show?

MD: Well Jaimie, I think, is like the perfect addition to the show this year; just her character and what the character has brought to the story and at the same time, working with her as an actress; when we first met her and had her over to our house for a little get together after we’d been back this year - we were all hanging out together and April and I (we’re like best buddies) both looked at each other and were like, “Wow Jaimie is the exact missing link in this group” so it’s been really great and she’s great and its been really fun.

Question: I wanted to know about the romantic entanglements between Amanda and Jessi - is it a love triangle?

MD: There is definitely some competition there that is about to come about. Kyle is such a pure character that I think his attraction to Amanda is because she’s such a pure soul so its hard to kind of come in and mess with that but there is definitely some kind of love triangle there.

What is it like to be between these two gorgeous girls?

MD: Actually we shot a scene the other day that was sort of a stand off between the two girls and me and I’m standing there across the room looking at them and they’re waiting for Kyle to give them some kind of explanation of what’s going on and it’s so funny. It’s actually a very funny scene and to see the two of them, and they’re both polar opposites and to see what attracts Kyle to both of these girls is really cool and it’s a very interesting chemistry.

Question: Is Jessi a genetic twin to Kyle? What is her background and how long until Jessi begins to find out more about her origins?

MD: We definitely establish that Jessi comes from the same place as Kyle; we don’t know exactly what her relationship is to Kyle but we will start to find out more about what their relationship is to each other and she’ll find out more about who she is in the second half of the season. But shell find out a lot in the next few episodes and it’s interesting to see how she deals with it. It’s interesting now to see how she handles it going into the back 10 now as compared to how she handled it then.

**And I think I’ll end Part 1 of the Matt Dallas interview on a mini-spoiler. Continue reading my interview with Matt over at Part 2 as Matt talks about his favorite scenes to play, the no belly button/half-naked posters, and just how close they are to wrapping all 22 episodes of Season 2.
