I had to tune in for the opening act of the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards to see Britney Spears‘ supposed comeback. I’m so happy I did! Her performance was off the hook… And by off the hook, I mean quite possibly the most incredibly bad performance ever!

This was Britney’s comeback, her chance to redeem all the negativity of the past couple years, to show us all the Britney’s Back Bitches! The only thing it showed us is that she’s the new Anna Nicole Smith!

She looked so whacked out and barely there, it was painful. The lip-syncing was so off, there were times when she just didn’t even bother to make it look like she was singing. There were times when she would let the voices sing for her and she’s just kind of wiggle her arm a little, you know… “dancing” and all. Her movements were slow and sloppy. Her effort was on par with DARIA trying to hit the volleyball.

Her eyes were glassy and dead. Her body while that of any normal girl in America was no Britney body. She was a fat lazy lover up on that stage.

This in no way was the comeback that everyone was expecting and I can only imagine how harsh the criticism is going to be.

Sarah Silverman ripping her a new one, simply genius! It was so harsh the way she basically gave us a visual of Brit’s shaved va-jayjay. So funny but so wrong.

Update #2: Dailymotion and YouTube have removed every video from last night’s performance. I’m now linking to JustJared who still has it up. I’ll try to repost as it becomes accessible again.

*Update: I’ve been sitting here thinking about how bad this really is for Brit. I mean, think about how amazing her performances (and by performances I mean visually, dance-wise and not vocally) were. Some of her early videos were the hottest things ever. “CRAZY” is simply superb, it’s old school Janet/Madonna and to see that this is where she’s landed in just a few short years makes me sick.

I feel like the biggest tool mentioning this but there may have been a time when Lil Jenn and I got up at 5am to head to downtown Boston to see Brit do a live performance outside of Macy’s… I say “may have been” – you don’t know!

Just got back from my time in New York for the Red Carpet event and NYTVF Premiere of ABC’s PUSHING DAISIES. Keep your eyes on www.ThePieMaker.com for complete coverage of the event from the red carpet. Interviews, photos, videos and more.

In the meantime, here’s a picture of yours truly with PUSHING DAISIES star, LEE PACE.

New York Television Festival has been going since Wednesday night but last night was my first screening, and that screening was NBC’s CHUCK.

Cast of Chuck #2, NBC Fall 2007

Now I know you’re thinking, wait Ducky has already seen Chuck… And I have but we were here anyway so why not. NYTF’s main venue is the New World Stages on W50th and the theatre held a couple hundred.

What I liked about this screening is that it seemed like more average TV viewers were there. Comic-Con was the ideal demo as the show is about a computer nerd and all but this seemed more like the NBC viewers the network wants to branch out to. The demo they’re trying to reach outside the nerd herd.

I found it fascinating to see how viewers reacted, what they laughed at, and how excited they were after the screening. Where the Comic-Con crowd screamed their eyes out when Adam Baldwin shows up on screen, there was barely a nod of recognition. Where every computer or techie reference went over gang-busters at Comic-Con, Bryce’s action sequence mashed with Chuck’s romantic woes was one of the biggest joys of the night.

One thing was consistent, they laughed in all the right places and then some. The crowd seemed so over the moon for Chuck himself Zachary Levi, Joshua Gomez (Morgan), Capt. Awesome, Adam Baldwin, and the ladies of Chuck, Sarah Lancaster and Yvonne Strahovski.

If this is any indication of how America will react, I’d have to say that CHUCK is on its way to surpassing Josh Schwartz’ last effort, the every lovable THE OC.
