Wow, when did Tuesday night become a wasteland for DVR catch ups? I used my time wisely and instead of watching The CW’s Reaper (which honestly I’m just not that into, I’ve tried… I really have) I chose to catch up on last week’s Dirty Sexy Money (the show is coming into its own and not such a caricature of rich bitch ideology), Doctor Who (I’m still 5 away from the finale which I can’t watch the final 3 until I’ve finished the Torchwood Season 1 boxset I have because apparently Torchwood’s final episodes play heavily into the last couple Doctor Who’s - I hope to be done this weekend!), last night’s CHUCK and HEROES.

CHUCK Versus The Tango
Gossip Girl was given the green light for a full 22 episode season today and I’m assuming that Chuck won’t be far behind giving Josh Schwartz two successful shows this season. I say that Chuck is a success because it’s made it to episode 3 and because it makes me laugh hysterically and just feel damn good about life. I heart Chuck Bartowski and his Nerd Herd pals, his nosy sister and that smokin’ hot Captain Awesome. Here’s a word of advice for Schwartzy… MORE SHIRTLESS UNDERWEAR CLAD CAPTAIN AWESOME! And more man on man tango please!

More on Chuck and Heroes after the jump…

This week Chuck was tasked with tracking down La Ciudad, a tango loving baddie with quite the trigger finger. Chuck got tango lessons from Captain Awesome and it was… wait for it… awesome! Chuck posed as his alias, no not Anastasia Beaverhousen but the simple Charles Carmichael. There was plenty of Wiener working Sarah played by the way sexy Yvonne Strahovski and even a killer girl on girl tango of assassination sorts on a rooftop! The Nerd Herd was featured prominently and poor Morgan had to face his phobia of old computers. What a wonderful phobia btw. It’s so our generation I can’t stand it!

There were some wonderful lines as usual…

Sarah: “Your hand is a little moist.”
Chuck: “It does that when I’m freaking out!”

Harry: “Where’s Bartowski?”
Morgan: “On a date with a smoking hot wiener girl.”

Chuck (on the tango): “Apparently I learned the girl parts of this dance…”

There were also some great sight gags this week:

  • Obviously Captain Awesome and Chuck doing the Tango with Awesome in nothing but a towel.
  • The microwave to the face courtesy of Casey.
  • The catfight!
  • The aerial shot of Morgan trapped in the caged computer station. It reminded me of the scene in Silence of the Lambs where Lechter eventually hangs the skinned cop from the bars. Amazing!
  • HEROES Season 2 Chapter 3: Kindred
I almost hate to say this but HEROES still seems to be missing the mark. Am I wrong? I love some of the storylines but I don’t feel there is a cohesive sense of where the show needs to be going this season. Is it dark, action, comedy, satire? The problem with having 200 characters on a show like Heroes is that some will have to take a back seat while others get their due. Sometimes the characters they focus on don’t work together as a whole though. That’s my issue this season.

Hiro was one of my faves last season yet this year I feel his storyline with Kensei seems out of place. The comedy in it falls flat because its sandwiched between such incredibly compelling and dark storylines back in present time. Y’all know I’m all about David Anders and Kensei but I think they needed to hold off on that storyline a little longer.

People cringed when West revealed his powers to Claire and they shot off into the air like Superman and Lois in the original Superman film. I didn’t have a problem with the hokey images, I had an issue with it happening in broad daylight. Ain’t any of those delinquent kids skipping class? Does noone have eyes? Aside from that, I really enjoyed Claire’s story last night and the reveal that West has been kidnapped by The Company was great! I have a feeling that the man with the glasses will not in fact be HRG but Bob (Stephen Tobolowsky). God I hope so, I don’t want more angst between Claire and her Father. That scene at the end with Claire looking in on HRG? Amazingly scary!

Did the picture Mohinder sent HRG show Claire and Nathan in the background or some others? I didn’t get a great look and then I deleted it.

I love that Sylar was back last night, as was “Candace” and her true hefty self. I love that Sylar did his brain work on “Candace” and it didn’t give him her powers, leaving him stranded without a guide or any form of escape from the impending pain related to his injuries.

Niki and Micah were also briefly in this episode. She dropped him off with Lieutenant Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) in New Orleans to stay with relatives of DL’s so that she can go work with The Company and be cured in exchange for one last job.

Alejandro was thrown into a Mexican prison but Maya found him and willingly killed the officers imprisoning her brother. Hey, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! If that involves crude oiling a few locals, so be it. How long until those two are no longer together and Maya has to fend for herself? Death everywhere… I can’t wait!

Before signing off, I have to ask who you all think is doing the killing of the elders? I’m going with Takezo Kensei because he would still be alive given he has the power of you know… not dying. Guesses?

I’m sorry you’re not watching Reaper. I think it’s hysterical and Bret Harrison is quickly climbing higher on my tv bf ladder.

I decided to fill the rest of my Tuesday night with Law and Order: SVU. Normally don’t watch this but I couldn’t resist the ads suggesting a teacher/student relationship between Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Beaver “my name is Cassidy.” Turns out Beaver was a sex addict who raped Sabrina. Poor Kyle Gallner. Teenage rapist is not exactly ideal typecasting.

I have Reaper on the DVR. I can’t seem to watch it live. Don’t you just love DSM? One of my favorites! I was watching Torchwood. I can watch on demand. I didn’t much like the Cyber girl one so much. But now that she has been on Supernatural, I guess I have to go back and watch, right? Heros had turned into Saturday night fodder for me for some reason.

      Karen shout-out! Love!!

I simply can’t get enough of one charming Mr. Chuck B. Levi is the absolute cutest, and Chuck is just so earnest and sweet- I may be a bit head over heels for the guy. I adore the scenes he has with his sis, as Sarah Lancaster can pretty much do no wrong in my book (except for the cheating on JDM, you crazy lady) and I love the relationship those two have.

And seriously- Adam Baldwin back on TV, kicking some baddie ass? Swoon City, my friend.

Ducky - The president of your fan club, Whitney, hated Chuck. Maybe she will read this and reconsider. I know my opinion means nothing to her but if it’s coming from DuckyxDale…dale…dale…maybe it will make a difference. LOL!!

As for your assessment of Chuck and Heroes - right on board with ya!

Reaper seems to make me fall asleep each week. I enjoy the first half (when it’s mostly just work bench humour), but then they get all bad horror movie and it’s zzzzzzzz.

      I heart Chuck too.

I am enjoying Reaper. I think it’s very uneven but there are some killer lines that just make me laugh. I am loving Chuck and Dirty Sexy Money! I agree that Heroes is VERY disjointed right now. Next week’s preview looked like it might bring some cohesiveness with looking for the elder-killer — I hope so.

    7. Vance says:

Oh man. Thank you. I thought it was just me and Scooter but Ive REALLY tried and tried to like Reaper but I find my mind wandering elsewhere during the show and while there are some good points to it, it hasn’t held up to expectations.
