I cannot wait for tonight. The Slap Bet Countdown is nearing it’s end…

Quarterlife to air on NBC

There has been so much talk about whether or not NBC would bring the webseries QUARTERLIFE to the airwaves or not and it’s finally official. Beginning in early 2008, NBC will begin airing the 30something, My So Called Life, Relativity, Once & Again, helmers’ webseries about a 25 year old blogger and her subjects friends.

Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick’s Quarterlife debuted last week at quarterlife.com and is currently on episode 4. New episodes premiere every Sunday and Thursday night.

I sat down yesterday and watched Quarterlife’s first 3 installments and I love it. I think that Bitsie Tulloch (already an online famer, who honestly I’d never heard of or seen in my life) is unbelievable as Dylan. She brings this sincerity and pain to the role that continues the tradition of frustrated female characters at a crux in their lives in Herskovitz/Zwick productions. From Angela Chase to all the women from Relativity to the kids on Once & Again, these two know angst and can deliver the painful reality of life like few other show creators can.

Will quarterlife be a breakout hit for a network? I’m not sure. As a webseries, it is hands down the most well produced in well acted product on the market but I have reservations about whether it will translate to the screen.

All 36 parts of quarterlife will be aired but as 6 1-hour episodes.

WGA Strike Signs

A lot happened while I was away from a computer since Friday afternoon, most importantly the game plan that United Hollywood has come up with for fans. One of the biggest concerns of fans wanting to support the WGA and their striking efforts has been how to create one unified approach that will make a statement.

Late Friday, United Hollywood asked us to help promote their Pencils2MediaMoguls campaign. The pencils are from a company that does not promote deforestation as their pencils are made from sustainably harvested wood. It’s the green approach to sending pencils and I’m all about that.

I’ve made it easy for everyone from my site to contribute. There is a widget on the left sidebar that you can use to donate directly. It will take you to United Hollywood’s paypal which is taking care of sending the funds. You can also choose to send a message with your donation, or a show of support for your favorite writer, sitcome, drama, etc.

Some FAQ’s:

Okay, what is Pencils2MediaMoguls?
We’re asking people to buy pencils to send to the six media moguls who run the six corporate conglomerates.

Why pencils?
A lot of different fan sites were suggesting that people send pencils to networks and studios. United Hollywood and Strike Points met with some of the television showrunners, and together we decided to follow the fans’ lead.

Pencils have become the symbol of our cause: We are putting them down until we get a fair deal.

Symbolism, whatever. Let’s face it — isn’t this kind of a waste of pencils?
We were worried about that too, so we found a vendor who makes environmentally sensitive product: California Republic Stationers. Their pencils are made from sustainably harvested wood, which means they don’t deforest.

We’ll also send the media moguls suggestions about where they can donate the pencils to non-profits that teach kids how to write. After all, the CEOs aren’t writers. It’s not like they can use them.

What happens to the money from the pencils?
Anything we have left over from our costs will go into the Union Solidarity Fund, which was created to help non-WGA members affected by the strike.
