Watching an Awards show on Fast Forward is the best thing on Earth! No more hideously boring speeches from Actors you’ve seen win 1000x. No more tributes to people you don’t care about. No more homages to dead people. No more witless banter from presenters. Brilliance is what Tivo or DVR is! Brilliance.
I just watched the Screen Actors Guild Awards in about 37 minutes and I’m very pleased I didn’t waste my time on watching all 2 hours. I saw enough to know that everyone in the audience wets themselves over the cast of Mad Men because every time the show was mentioned the place went insane. I also watched enough to once again be thankful for the end of The Sopranos. I’m not a fan and I’m so over them winning everything every year. I also watched enough to know that people adore 30 Rock as much as I do and that Tina Fey is a golden goddess. And lastly I watched enough to know that my love for the rise of Josh Brolin is appreciated by all and not just me and my friends. Congrats to No Country For Old Men on their ensemble win because there is NO other film this year that can top the overall acting achievement made by the combo of Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin! Kudos.

[…] show was mostly a snoozer. At least they had a show though, I guess. The idea of recording it and fast-forwarding through the speeches and whatnot would have been a good idea. Anyway, for those that didn’t watch it, and good call […]

I said it many times last night too: “TiVo is the best thing to ever happen to awards shows!” I zipped right through all three Sopranos speeches and watched the two I was happiest about–Tina Fey and Daniel Day Lewis–twice! I do, however, like “In Memoriam” montages and I found the little history lessons with Blair Underwood interesting. Even better was the fast foward button during red carpet interviews! No more listening to yet another question about whether or not the casts of Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives hang out when they are not on set.
