BONES Season Finale Breaks My Heart
Posted by: Ducky in Bones, Ducky Does TV, FOX, Finale
Yesterday I spent my entire waiting time and actual flight time watching every post-strike episode of BONES, all the way through this weeks finale. I just now finished the finale and I’m actually hurt by the turn of events. I’m not going to lie, I cried big tears in the final moments of the episode and I wished I’d given Gorgomon’s Apprentice something as well.
Notice I’m being vague in who within the Jeffersonian was associated with the crazy ass secret society, silver bones, and killing lobbyist business… not any more. My next sentence will spoil it for anyone who hasn’t yet watched the finale or even caught up with this season of BONES.
I guess I shouldn’t be so emotionally attached to BONES that I couldn’t spoil myself but I’m very pleased that I somehow managed to make it 4 days without being spoiled.
Yes, I’m hurt and angered and betrayed by ZACH ADDY and his creepy actions.
I wish that little innocent Zach wasn’t capable of killing someone, stabbing them through the heart in honor of some creepy vampire looking no one of a man who lives in a house way too big and a basement way too garish.
I’m bummed that he was so weak and vulnerable that he couldn’t see past the logic of Gorgomon to the emotional side of human friendship and relationships, which would have allowed him to stay clear of such trappings.
I’m pissed that going to Iraq changed our little innocent and adorable squint.
I’m devastated for the team that they were fooled by Zach and that their friendships and love for him are now in jeopardy.
I’m heartbroken from Bones because she understood Zach’s reasoning and I fear the anger and resentment that will build because of it.
Mostly I’m pissed at the writers for creating a character that we spent 3 years falling in love with, trusting, and nurturing into manhood only to be slapped in the face by his actions. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not mad at the turn of events or in denial that they could have happened.
I’m mad at the genius of it.
I’m mad that I didn’t see it coming sooner.
I’m happy as one of those beetles eating the flesh off a decaying corpse that Hart Hanson and Co. used a procedural to manipulate an unsuspecting audience into loving a character so much that we would feel as betrayed as the rest of the squints by the reveal. That took a lot of time and planning on their part and I personally thank them for making me feel so hurt and betrayed by Zach. Who knew that when he came back from Iraq that he would be so different? War really did change that kid, now we have to wait to see how his Jeffersonian family rally to get back their little Zach.
Awesome finale… just awesome.

I still have a hard time facing the reality that Zach was behind this…because he was such an endearing character…very good writing…

I think they jumped the shark! This episode was unbelieve Zach wont go to the bad side, it should have been Sweets or he should of had something to do with it. Its like when The OC killed off Marissa Cooper played by Mischa Barton, after she died the show only had one more season hopeful Bones doesn’t go down the same road but it looks like it will. Alot off people say there not going to watch the show anymore because of this episode, now you have to think what show doesn’t make you want to watch it anymore. This had to have been one really big mistake, and Hart Hanson can’t say there was nothing more they could have done with Zach character you can always do something with a great character and Zach was a great character. To me this was a easy way of getting out of using more brain power it like the writers are all to lazy to come up with more ideas. And they say there not replacing Zach, but we all know that why they brought Sweets on!
P.S. Sweets is annoying he should die! Also the writers suck, Sweets sucks, Bones suck, and eveyone who can up with this stupid as hell episode sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with Jumping the Shark … this episode stunk. Sure, it had me on an emotional rollercoster the entire time with the “whodunnit” thing. But when the big reveal came … I was shocked, angered, and just plain out pissed. Zack is NOT a killer, and I refuse to believe this. Sure, going to Iraq damaged him and he was probably weak, and susceptible, and blah blah blah. But really? Really, Hart Hanson, REALLY?!?! You got bored of the character, so you turn him into a serial killer’s apprentice?? I’m afraid of what will happen to the next character Hart gets tired of … how can he top the “turned into a killer” thing? Oy. I’ve been a viewer since S2, but this entire season had me really reviewing my priorities and reasons to keep up with the show. I’ll probably tune in next year, if for nothing else than the Jack/Angela storyline.
And don’t get me started on Sweets. He needs to go away in the worst way.

I actually didn’t like the finale at all. I can usually forgive the show’s faults and discontinuities as quirks but I thought this finale felt rushed and choppy. I mean Booth’s death was solved before the opening credits even started. Also, they sort of golssed over how Zach was manipulated. Why would Gormogon be allowed into a scientist convention? And wouldn’t Zach have called Brennan within seconds of meeting the cannibal they’ve beein trying to track down for the past like seven months? I never quite understood or cared about this Gormogon storyline so it’s upsetting that it’s what cost the show one of it’s greatest characters.
Just really terrible writing from beginning to end.

I was very disappointed in the season finale. It was unrealistic. First of all who was the guy that Booth was trying to get out off hiding? The whole funeral thing was lame. Second Sweets is ok but I prefer the British physiologist. Then there’s Zack. You would think that the shark for this show would have been Bones and Booth hooking up instead they did this. I read an article with Eric Millegan he was told that he was going to be the appetence. He didn’t ask to leave the show. This was Fox trying to get better ratings. In the article Eric said that because of the strike they didn’t get into his post pardon depression from being in Iraq. Why didn’t they go into that? Zack could have had a breakdown. He could have seen one of Gormagon’s bodies and had a flash back. Anything but being a bad guy. Or they could have left Gormagon out of it and made it the Grave Digger. They could have left Zack under ground as he was the one that found out the location. Making us want to find out if he served next season. I’m still waiting for them to bring back that murder. I like the show but I think the strike really messed things up. Why didn’t they just extend the season into the summer? If not then make the season finale less dramatic and something that would have put a smile on peoples faces. Something that wouldn’t make me question if I want to watch next season. If they could find a way to get Bone’s father off and we all saw him do it (another story line left out of the finale) then they should be able to find some way of fixing this mess. The other comment that Eric made in the article is that he hopes people will miss him. I know I will!! I hope Fox finds a way to fix this. Although I normal can’t stand the dream thing I would except it this time if Zack is back and not a bad guy.

I don’t see what the big deal is about Zach leaving. To be honest i only watch the show to see the Brennan and Booth relationship.

Just, an FYI, Sadie. The way Zack was written out was terrible. The whole episode smelled like bad fan fiction. Actually, this whole season was like bad fan fiction. It’s amazing how much they ruined the show. Seasons 1 and 2 were by far the stronger seasons. And, if you look at the ratings for Seasons 1 and 2, the average viewers are much higher than season 3. Anyway, anyone who just cares about the tired, boring and now forced Booth/Bones relationship, which they do not have, because they ARE NOT a couple, are crazy. The Booth/Bones so-called relationship is not strong enough to hold the whole show together and survive. You take away Hodgins, Angela and Cam, and you have no show. I mean, they took away part of the family as it is. That dynamic will never be the same. IT’S AN ENSEMBLE CAST! Not just Booth and Bones.
Now, the writers are copying off of ‘House’ and are having a revolving door of grad students for season 4. LAME. Why do they have to copy off of other shows? Get your own ideas, creators!!!!
