Totally non-TV related, I’m stuck in Houston (where it was 80 and sunny today) for another night thanks to the impending storm about to bitch slap Boston. I was schedule to fly home tomorrow afternoon but when I logged on tonight to print my boarding pass, the flights to NYC and Boston were already canceled.
I guess JetBlue isn’t taking any chances because they’re taking early early preemptive measures to cover their asses. This is the one time that I don’t really mind being stranded in another city thanks to JetBlue’s over-zealous cancellations because I’m staying with family and I’m unemployed so it’s not like I’m on some work induced time table.
Remember this summer when Kath and I got stuck in San Diego trying to go home from Comic-Con? That was a bitch because we had to pay for hotels and food and I had to call work and take another vacation day… not this time baby!
Now I get to go to the Blue Bell Ice Cream Factory for a tour tomorrow! BRING IT BITCHES! Oh and I can stalk Coach and Tami Taylor (as if they’re real people).
There is a downside though… I’m seriously behind on my TV watching. I still need to watch last week’s Supernatural and Battlestar not to mention this week’s Fringe and I think I’m two episodes behind on Gossip Girl. I’ll do my best to catch up, promise!
Television Director, Producer, all around awesome guy Kim Manners passed away from lung cancer on Sunday night and it’s a big loss to genre television and specifically, my fave SUPERNATURAL. He directed some of my favorite episodes of the show and this is a huge blow for SPN fans, the crew and obviously those that knew and loved Mr. Manners personally.
Supernatural creator Eric Kripke released this statement last night:
Everyone at ‘Supernatural’ is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. He gave so much to ‘Supernatural,’ and everything we do on the show, now and forever, is in memory of him.
On our Supernatural set visit in 2007, he was incredibly nice, funny and informative while being really charismatic and fun for the cast and crew. You could just tell that everyone rallied around him and that they loved and respected what he did for the show. Watching him direct an episode was incredible. He knew exactly how to bring what he needed out of the boys and how to control them when it was go-time. He was an incredible talent.
I thought I had a picture or two of Kim talking with us bloggers but I don’t, sorry gang (my girl Rae at RamblingsofaTVWhore does though).
Here are some of my favorite Kim Manners’ directed Supernatural episodes – including my all time favorite, “Scarecrow”:
Tonight is the premiere of TNT’s new dramedy TRUST ME starring Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanaugh so I thought I’d just do a quick post reminding everyone to watch.
I really enjoyed the first couple episodes and if you’re sitting there wondering if it’s just going to be a 2nd or 3rd rate MAD MEN, don’t worry, they’re nothing alike. Sure each takes place within the advertising world, but trying to compare the two would be like trying to compare Battlestar Galactica with Cleopatra 2525.
Trust Me is a quirky look inside the competitive world of advertising where one bad tagline can make or break you. It’s a show heavy on the bromance but allows the other characters to live and breathe within the world of the main characters without feeling like obvious add-ons.
Griffin Dunne is kind of an ass but a semi-likeable ass. Monica Potter plays the female go-getter and this might be the first thing I’ve ever actually liked her in. She’s funny, smart, a little neurotic and not an instant love interest for either character. Oh and 24’s bad ass Nina plays Eric McCormack’s wife and she kind of kicks ass in this too!
I was pleasantly surprised by the first couple episodes so I hope you’ll give it a try.
TRUST ME airs tonight at 10pm right after the premiere of THE CLOSER on TNT
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is simply a pure joy. I watched the next 3 episodes on my way to Texas yesterday because it seemed fitting and I loved every second of it. Here’s some of my thoughts or what I like to call my not-so-recap-recap of this week’s episode “Tami Knows Best”.
The episode starts off with Riggs and Lyla messing around in bed when his stupid brother Billy comes in saying that Tim got a letter of interest for Univ. of Oklahoma. Lyla plotzes, Riggs pouts and Billy just kinda stands there.
Jump to Tami having to justify her decision to reallocate the funds and you can already tell this week is going to be hell on Mrs. T..
Elsewhere in Dillon, Saracen’s Grandma’s blood pressure is really high and it turns out that she’s not only off her rocker but off her meds. Once again, poor Matty is put in a spot that’s way beyond his means. Dementia’s a bitch.
The local newspaper reports on Tami’s decision to reallocate the funds and it appears that its the first the Coach is hearing about it! Whoopsy hon. Wine and credits…
SMASH:
Smash is back on the field with Coach readying himself for the tryouts that Coach is trying to set up for him. Reality is that it’s hard for coach to get anyone to come down and see him.
Smash is having a really hard time getting back in the game. He’s afraid and acting out – the boy is lost without being a Panther. Coach gives him one more shot.
Coach surprises Smash with the entire Panther team and it’s game time! It rebuilds his confidence and damnit it renews my love for this character and this show. SMASH IS BACK BABY! So is Mama Smash! It’s about time we got a little Mama Smash love. Coach tells Smash that he’s got a walk-on with Texas A&M in a week so it’s back to the grind. Smash’s family flips, I love them.

I’m in Texas right now and haven’t had the chance to watch this past week’s episode of SUPERNATURAL and it’s killing me! Not only does it have the best title of any show this season, “Criss Angel is a Douchebag” it means that it’s been over a week since I’ve gotten my Winchester fix. That’s not right.
Thankfully I’ve got some video and pics from the next episode of SUPERNATURAL entitled “After School Special” to tide me over. Bring on Jensen in little short shorts and a little mini Sam and Dean!!!
Episode Summary: A FLASHBACK EPISODE TO YOUNG SAM AND DEAN IN HIGH SCHOOL — Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) go undercover to investigate a string of murders at their old high school. The case causes them to flashback to their time there recalling how Sam was picked on by the school bully while Dean was Mr. Popular. Adam Krane directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin
The TV Talk Podcast with GMMR and Ducky is back and we’ve got a crazy amount of stuff to talk about. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA revealed it’s 5th Cylon, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS returns with some hot Riggins action, DAMAGES still blows our minds, PRIVILEGED begins to get lazy, and GREY’S ANATOMY slips on the “Stairway to Heaven”.
This morning the 81st Annual Academy Award Nominations were announced. There weren’t really any big surprises though obviously there were some disappointments.
I’m shocked that Kate Winslet was nominated for THE READER and not for REVOLUTIONARY ROAD in which she tops any performance nominated this year. I’m psyched to see Michael Shannon on the list for Best Supporting Actor in REV ROAD, same for Josh Brolin for MILK. I’m annoyed beyond belief that Anne Hathaway was nominated for RACHEL GETTING MARRIED because that film is a piece of bullshit. I’m also glad to see Richard Jenkins getting some love for THE VISITOR! For everyone upset that THE DARK KNIGHT didn’t get more love, get over it… it’s not THAT good folks – it’s good but like I said, not that good. I’m also psyched to see MAN ON WIRE get it’s well deserved nod.

So I just finished watching the LOST Season 5 Premiere for the 2nd time and loved it a little more than I did the first go-round. I’ve been sitting on these notes about the first two hours for a couple weeks now and can finally post them for you guys to read.
It’s a little live-bloggy and a little recappy so once again you’re getting a little glimpse at what my head was thinking while watching the premiere.
LOST Season 5 Premiere “Because You Left”
Love that we start off at 8:15 on the island and Dr. Candle is filming orientation film #2 – The Arrow. Orchid drilling and melted drill bit – scans reveals the donkey wheel behind the wall. Candle reveals that there are rules that cannot be broken in messing with the time/space manipulations. “Don’t be absurd, there are rules… rules that cannot be broken.”
OMG Faraday was on the island back in the day – looks like he figured out this whole time travel thing.
Back to Jack and Ben in the funeral home with Locke planning on stealing him then breaking Hurley out of the mental institute.
Yes, Jack finally shaves his beard!
Locke told Jack that everyone on the island and the boat would die if they didn’t go back.
3 years have lapsed since the island disappeared.
Donkey wheel flashback reveals what happened when the island moved. The camp disappeared as did The Others that were with Locke. Faraday tells them that their camp isn’t gone, it just hasn’t been built yet.
Lots of shirtless Sawyer!

It seems like a million years since the madness, chaos, mind-bending storylines of LOST graced our television in beautiful HD but the wait is over, Lost returns tonight!
I’ve seen the first 3 hours of Lost Season 5 so far and I’m really digging the direction the season is going. Everything we’ve learned to love over the last 4 years remains but the show once again changes the game with some new twists, turns, returns and time changes.
If you’ve been a passive viewer of Lost (Mom I’m talking about you), this might be the season that makes you stop watching. If you were confused by flashbacks, flash forwards and island time get ready because the signature whoosh sound that signified a change is gone and time is much more fluid.
Science takes a much more prominent place on the show and I think that might be a hard pill for my Mom’s of the world to swallow. If they’ve accepted the smoke monster and Jacob there’s a chance that the island disappearing and doing what it does in the premiere will be accepted as well.
For the die-hards, this will only make them appreciate the show more!
If people are looking for answers and to be hand-held through the premiere, brace yourselves because while there are some answers, there are once again a new set of questions and confusions to wrap your heads around. It wouldn’t be the Lost we love without them.
Get ready to see some familiar faces, some you may not remember (but I promise they’ve been seen before) and some new characters of intrigue to familiarize yourselves with. I highly recommend having Lostepedia ready to help guide you through the rough spots.
My spoiler-lite thoughts on the premiere after the jump… (more…)
FRINGE returns to kick off the 2nd half of their first season tonight on FOX and I can’t wait. I’ve grown incredibly fond of Walter, Peter, Olivia and the Observer and can’t wait for things to kick into wacky gear again!
Here is Josh Jackson talking with TV Guide’s Matt Webb Mitovitch about what we can expect in the second half of the season.
It will be fun to see Pacey be an ass to Grams and I’m excited for more Jared Harris but a little nervous that they’re wrapping a bunch of stuff up already. Obviously, like he said, it’s a J.J. Abrams show and nothing is really ever resolved but still, seems a little soon don’t you think?
The gang over at Showtime was gracious enough to send bloggers the first 4 episodes of their new dramedy THE UNITED STATES OF TARA and I’m head over heels in love!
Tara is a artist/decorator married with children and multiple personalities (aka “alters”) who stops taking her meds to feel more in touch with her life, family, sex and self. She has dissociative identity disorder (DID) and now that she’s off her meds, the alters that were once under control are now slipping through the cracks and making appearances in Tara’s life at the most inopportune times.
In the premiere we’re introduced to two alters but by episode two, all three have appeared. Below is my breakdown of the alters. Warning: mild spoilers ahead:
T – a 15 year old thong wearing, f-bomb slinging sex pot of a pain in the ass teen that tries to seduce Tara’s husband and corrupt their daughter Kate while making fun of their son Marshall. T is a hoot! She’s a typical teen and it’s incredibly strange and unnerving to watch the Mom interact with her kids as a peer. It’s even creepier to see her try to seduce her Tara’s husband. Sure it’s his wife’s body but it clearly is not her mind so what’s a man to do?
BUCK – watching Toni Collette turn into this chain smoking, homophobic, racist, butch, ass kicking truck driver is amazing. There is no hint of Collette (or Tara) once Buck arrives. He’s a buddy to Tara’s husband, an embarrassment to Tara’s daughter and a terrorist to Tara’s gay son yet everyone takes Buck in strides. He’s brash but below that porn loving surface is a man that has good intentions and is looking out for his/Tara’s family.
ALICE – Tara’s third alter doesn’t make an appearance in tonight’s premiere but she does show up in episode 2. Alice is kind of like Bree from Desperate Housewives but she scares me more. Alice wants the appearance of perfection, at any cost yet she’s the most dysfunctional and possibly destructive of the alters. While Tara and her husband Max have an agreement that he won’t sleep with the alters, Alice could care less. She eventually goes as far as telling Max that she’d like to have a baby with him… like I said, she’s going to be trouble.
I don’t really have that much to say about the return of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS other than to say I couldn’t be happier to have the Taylor’s, Tyra, Landry, Buddy and Lyla Garrity, Riggs, Smash, Matt and the rest of the Dillon Panthers back in my life.
The minute the credits began and that amazing W.G. Snuffy Walden theme music began I felt at home and almost a little teary.
I did however save the tears for Tyra Collette. Much like now Principal Tami Taylor I wanted to stop our resident wild child from throwing it all away after her talk with the new VP. Tyra’s life has sucked up til now when she showed up at the Taylor household to proclaim her dedication to making something out of her life, the tears began streaming down my face. I love me some Tyra and aside from Saracen, she’s the character I want change for most. I want good things for her and her future so I got a little misty, sue me. Oh and what about her smackdown on the new VP? Amazing…
I just love these damn characters so much that I’m very easily moved to eye spritzers on a regular basis. Smash Williams too got me a little choked up. I love me some Smash and to see his dreams being diminished hurt. Though, bless his heart, that Coach Taylor is a truly amazing man for helping Brian realize his potential and to fight no matter what.
There wasn’t much Saracen but what there was of him damn near killed me. This new J.D. McCoy spells trouble with a capital T for Matty and I can already tell it’s going to break both he and his grandma to see a new star shine on the Panthers.
Speaking of trouble, oh Tami – Buddy Garrity is not someone you want to mess with. When Buddy gives you a check for a Panthers Jumbotron and you go reallocating those funds to the rest of the school, there’s going to be a war. I LOVE IT! You go with your bad self Tami Taylor.
