SUPERNATURAL returned with “Family Matters” and let me tell ya kids, it was in fine form tonight!

This is what I love about Supernatural this season, it’s found it’s footing and moves forward while staying true to it’s roots. What drew me into the show in the first place (aside from the smokin’ hotness of Jared and Jensen) was the horror aspect of the show. It was like a horror movie every week and then I grew to love the boys and the mythology.

“Family Matters” was a return to the first season of the show. It was a creepy thrill ride from beginning to end. There was some blood but not too much; same goes for suspense, humor and on-going story arcs.

The boys did their jobs, helped some people, kicked some evil ass and moved on to another city. Same old story right? Not so much… The best part was how they worked Dean’s guilt and pain into the storyline without it being heavy handed.

Not only did Dean have to wrestle with what he told Sammy in the last episode, he had to come clean about enjoying the torture he inflicted on the poor souls down under. It was heartbreaking… Dean is supernaturaldamaged and I can’t believe how dark they’ve gone – I kinda love it!

Now with that being said, if Dean starts giving speeches at the end of every episode like Buffy did in the final season, we may need to have words. Keep him tortured, semi-bottled and always ass kicking and we’ll be fine.

Oh did I mention that my girl Billie Jean was in the episode? I damn near bleached my hair, strapped on a wet suit top, grabbed a video camera and declared that “Fair is Fair!” Helen Slater you will always be Supergirl a legend to me – now let’s go get Binx’ scooter back from that bastard Hubie Pyatt.

I have to agree with you. I really do believe focusing on their central arc has made for a much stronger season this year BUT I was happy to see a return to the setup that I made me fall in love with this show in the first place. It was a bonus that they managed to work in the arc as well.

totally agree with you! this was an awesome creepy episode! I just hope Dean doesn’t give a speech now every single episode!!! Loved non-ghost girl!
It was similiar to one of my favorite Moftw episodes in season 1, the Benders. Both had equally creepy girls which were human but so much creepier than normal ghosts!!!

The way the worked in Dean’s story in this episode was similar to Metamorphosis and Sam’s story. Don’t ya think?

    Scary, check.
    Sarcastic, check.
    Story arc, check.
Monologue ending, check…uh, seriously? Stop it!

I didn’t LOVE this episode but we needed it to see just how damaged Dean has become. And to slide the evil scale back from Sam a bit. The best part of this show is the brother dynamic and now it’s not just Dean thinking about Sammy going dark side. I bet he’s wondering about himself too.

I hate this new show with the leads Dean and Dean’s Angst.

If Dean cries another time by the Impala I hope somebody smacks him, hard! He chose to go to hell. Man up loser, it’s not like you didn’t know what you signed up for, you had an entire season, that stunk, angsting over it. And now I have to see another with Dean angsting all over the place while special funny scenes are written for him? Supernatural is rapidly becoming the worst soap ever. How very interesting to look at pretty boy acting over the top again. Yeah, right.

This thing was so full of plot holes that I laughed. Scary? Pathetic! Kripke keeps reheating every former episode and not doing a very stellar job of it either. This was bender, Dean’s story arc is the old Sam one, only this time with added angels for saint-chosen-by-God-Mary-Sue-Dean? Ah! The creativity astounds me.

Supernaturlal has made the jump this season.

It took me close to a week to watch this crap and I regret that I did. Won’t happen again.
