Television Director, Producer, all around awesome guy Kim Manners passed away from lung cancer on Sunday night and it’s a big loss to genre television and specifically, my fave SUPERNATURAL. He directed some of my favorite episodes of the show and this is a huge blow for SPN fans, the crew and obviously those that knew and loved Mr. Manners personally.
Supernatural creator Eric Kripke released this statement last night:
Everyone at ‘Supernatural’ is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. He gave so much to ‘Supernatural,’ and everything we do on the show, now and forever, is in memory of him.
On our Supernatural set visit in 2007, he was incredibly nice, funny and informative while being really charismatic and fun for the cast and crew. You could just tell that everyone rallied around him and that they loved and respected what he did for the show. Watching him direct an episode was incredible. He knew exactly how to bring what he needed out of the boys and how to control them when it was go-time. He was an incredible talent.
I thought I had a picture or two of Kim talking with us bloggers but I don’t, sorry gang (my girl Rae at RamblingsofaTVWhore does though).
Here are some of my favorite Kim Manners’ directed Supernatural episodes – including my all time favorite, “Scarecrow”:
Season 1: “Dead in the Water”
Season 1: “Scarecrow:
Season 1: “Devil’s Trap”
Season 2: “Heart”
Season 3 “Fresh Blood”
Season 4 “Lazarus Rising”

He really was a great one. My heart goes out to his family and friends. It’s a credit to his spirit that so many fans feel this deep loss because he his energy and love for what he did and the show resonated.

This just makes me so very sad.
Lung cancer is horrible, and it is sneaky.
This much I know all too well.
And “Scarecrow”, ah, one of my faves – if not, my fave.
