V - Tyler and Erica

It’s hard to believe but tonight, V airs it’s last episode until 2010. That’s right, after only 4 episodes, the show is disappearing until March… Odd.

“It’s Only the Beginning” takes us a little further into the world of the V’s, their medical advances, their possible agenda(s) and the resistance willing to risk everything to expose them.

I was lucky enough to get a screener of tonight’s fall finale and I couldn’t have been more excited to pop that DVD into my laptop.

I asked myself “Am I so addicted that I needed a quick fix”? Not so much… When I thought about it, I hoped V had finally fixed all the problems that have been bothering me.

As you know, leading up to the Fall season I was a big supporter of the show. I loved the original 80s miniseries and had high hopes for this reboot. It has a killer cast, a great concept and enough sci-fi buzz surrounding it that it seemed like a slam dunk. The show premiered to huge ratings but the first few episodes have far from wowed me. That’s why I rushed to see the big “cliff hanger” episode before everyone else got their grubby hands on it.

In my humble opinion, this episode is Only the Beginning… of the end for Ducky and V.

I truly have given the show a shot. I’ve tried to ignore all the bad but I don’t think I can anymore.

Do I love Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Scott Wolf and Alan Tudyk? Of course I do and that’s probably why I’ve given the show much more time than I normally would have. These actors alone cannot save V from mediocre writing, slow plot developments and a scaly feeling that we’ve seen it all before.

In part, I don’t care about any of the characters or the comparisons to modern day politics which is kind of a big issue.

Where BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and more recently DISTRICT 9 succeeded in making aliens on earth relevant to today’s political and social climate, V is just not getting there or really moving in that direction. Instead they’re using semi-religious undertones that don’t interest me and seem way to convenient, obvious and boring to be engaging.

I don’t care about the power plays between Anna and Scott Wolf’s reporter. I don’t care if Anna’s daughter eats Elizabeth Mitchell’s son. I don’t care about Morris Chestnut’s V rebellion or his relationship with his wife. It’s all just kind of blah. It’s sad but true.

Regardless, there are some things you should know about tonight’s episode…

Here are a few non-spoilery highlights to tonight’s episode “It’s Only the Beginning”:

  • We learn the fate of Wash Dale (Tudyk)
  • Tyler tries to tell Mom that Lisa is a V but finds comfort from a surprising confidant…
  • A new resistance is forming and trying to kidnap a V but they may not all be on board with the plan.
  • Anna questions the V’s and is on a witch hunt… at any cost!
  • Learn more about the Jack’s (the Priest) past
  • The Fifth Column (Traitor V’s) play heavily into this episode
  • We finally get a bigger glimpse inside the ship!
  • A warehouse… again… really…
  • What all the nerdy boys and girls have been waiting for… a naked Anna
  • Oh and someone has a big-ass Jesus complex
  • If you’re really enjoying V and think it’s a great series so far, this episode will be a wonderful compliment to the episodes that have aired. However, if you’re like me, you may find yourself climbing down on the other side of the fence you’ve been on for the past month.

V airs tonight at 8pm on ABC

Already taken V off of the DVR list before your post.
It just didn’t connect with me at all.
Despite my love for Wolfe, Chestnut and Tudyk (I really, really love Tudyk).
      Another one bites the dust.

I have a feeling the powers that be are on the same page as you. Why else would they take if off the air after only 4 episodes and not bring it back until March. I think you should give it one more shot once it comes back. I’d hope they get some things figured out by then.
