The new Fall TV season is less than a week away and while I’ve been busy trying to watch all the new pilots I have to say that I’m not super excited about the new crop of shows. Bummer huh?
My podcasting partner in crime GMMR and I have been trying to schedule time to talk Fall TV and we hope to have all of the network podcasts up in the next week so hold tight. We’ve posted our thoughts on the new shows for The CW so please listen to that podcast to see what we love and/or hate.
In the meantime here are the shows I plan on watching this Fall. Shows in BLUE are what I plan on watching LIVE or DVR’d. Shows in PINK are ones that I will have to catch online or via iTunes.
MONDAY (click to enlarge) Monday’s have traditionally been a pretty busy night of TV viewing for me. However, this year it’s looking pretty open.
I’m annoyed that the power hour that started my night of television last year has been split up because BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was a partnership made in heaven. I’ll be interested to see what happens to BBT at such a late hour (and I hope to remember its on that late) and if I feel like the vibe is the same without it’s partner.
Another year, another chance to officially drop HEROES. Last year I decided to watch then within 5 episodes I dropped that lame duck for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. Going into Season 4, I’ve vowed to not even give it a single frame of consideration. Will. Not. Watch!
After a brief vacation from the kids on the Upper East Side, a summer marathon has renewed my love for all things GOSSIP GIRL. That doesn’t mean I won’t get annoyed with the repetitive storylines and the lame quick-wrap secondary storylines – it just means I’m excited for the show to return and kick some ass! Let’s not fuck it up Savage & Schwartz.
If you’re interested in ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE starring Jenna Elfman, Ashley Jensen and Grant Show you should watch. It’s a very traditional sitcom and paired with TWO AND A HALF MEN, I think it’s going to be a huge hit. I just don’t see myself watching it week to week. The pilot is cute, Elfman is adorable and the premise is fun. Mark my words, this is one of the biggest new shows in 09.
TUESDAY (click to enlarge)
Believe it or not, I’m only watching two shows on Tuesday’s but hell if that isn’t four frakkin’ hours of television.
I’m a total sucker for the weight loss and emotional meltdowns of THE BIGGEST LOSER so there’s no chance I’m not watching Bob and Jillian bust some fatties once again. Love that damn show.
Obviously you know I’m a huge SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE junkie so that’s a no brainer – or is it? I’ve been very vocal about how I don’t love the idea of bringing SYTYCD to the Fall. I love having it as my summer obsession because I have less shows to watch in the summertime which means more time for a Paso Doble or two. Pushing it on us in the middle of the onslaught of new and returning shows seems cruel and I hate that it’s going to take up two hours of my Fall TV schedule. There… I’ve said it.
I’m not gonna lie – from time to time I will probably watch The CW’s reboot of MELROSE PLACE. I actually enjoyed the pilot episode. It’s 100% better than I expected it to be and surely my partner Jon will want to pop in and out of that salacious complex.
*If you’re wondering about BETTER OFF TED, don’t worry its coming back after DwtS ends (which isn’t soon enough)!
**ABC’s reboot of V starts November 3rd at 8pm (shitty time slot for a show that is not suited for 8pm) and I’m super excited. I loved the original as a kid and I really enjoyed the pilot for the remake. Plus, it’s got Elizabeth Mitchell, Alan Tudyk and Scott Wolf!
WEDNESDAY (click to enlarge)
Wednesday night is really the only night I’m giving new shows a chance at making it into my live/dvr rotation.
SYTYCD has it’s results show at 8pm and that’s followed by GLEE (which we all know I flippin’ heart). It’s a great one-two punch and I’m really looking forward to Wednesday’s – thanks FOX!
Over on ABC, my favorite new comedy, MODERN FAMILY gets paired up with the pretty good COUGAR TOWN. Trust me when I tell you to tune in to MODERN FAMILY. The pilot has laugh out loud funny jokes throughout and one of the best, THE BEST, things I’ve ever seen in the final few minutes. COUGAR TOWN is fun, a little dirty and honestly who doesn’t love having Courtney Cox, Busy Phillips and Josh Hopkins back on their screens?
EASTWICK is not as bad as you think it might be. The hour grew on me as it progressed and I’m willing to give it a couple weeks which is more than I can say for many of the new shows this Fall.
While I’ve always been a huge fanboy for The WB/UPN turned The CW, I have to agree with my friend Rae that maybe we’re no longer their key demographic. Looking at the Fall 2009 lineup makes me finally realize I’m a 35 year old man, not a 14 year old girl.
Gone are the days when BUFFY, DAWSON’s, FELICITY, POPULAR and ROSWELL ruled my television landscape. It’s now being overrun with new versions of the shows I grew up with and that means its time to stop watching. Sure there are a couple shows I’ll tune into (SUPERNATURAL and possibly THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) but my DVR is no longer set to record everthing on every night. Sad but true.
Here’s what the tweens will be watching this Fall:
MONDAY
8 p.m. GOSSIP GIRL
9 p.m. ONE TREE HILL
TUESDAY
8 p.m. 90210
9 p.m. MELROSE PLACE
WEDNESDAY
8 p.m. AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL
9 p.m. THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE
THURSDAY
8 p.m. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
9 p.m. SUPERNATURAL
FRIDAY
8 p.m. SMALLVILLE
*Check out video previews of the new fall schedule over at TV Week.
One thing is clear, my CW viewing schedule is relatively light and I’m not really complaining. Little known fact, I stopped watching GOSSIP GIRL over a month ago and don’t plan on returning. Dirty little secret revealed.
TV Talk with GMMR and Ducky is finally back! We discuss the new fall schedule day by day and break down our returning faves and possible new must-sees.
From Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl, Chuck to Heroes and My Own Worst Enemy on Monday. Tuesday’s are Biggest Loser, House, 90210, Privileged to Fringe and The Mentalist. Wednesday’s are all about Pushing Daisies, Bones, Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money and Lipstick Jungle. Over on Thursday’s we’ve got Ugly Betty, Survivor, Kath & Kim, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, 30 Rock, Supernatural, Life on Mars and Eleventh Hour. Friday night is all about The Ghost Whisperer (I kid) and The Ex-List and Life. Sunday’s we’re freaking out that The Amazing Race is back, Desperate Housewives, Cold Case, Dexter and Brothers & Sisters.
It’s a busy season folks, sit back and relax because we talk forever.
Now that we’re officially in the chaos that is Fall TV 2008, it’s time for you get to the scoop on what all the TV Bloggers think about the upcoming season. I’m not a doctor blogger but I play one online so obviously my opinion counts! Right?
We’ll give you the skinny, the poop, the 411, etc. on 90210, Kath & Kim, Crusoe, True Blood, Fringe, Privileged, The Ex-List, Gary Un-Married, Eleventh Hour, Life on Mars, My Own Worst Enemy, Knight Rider, The Mentalist, Worst Week, Dollhouse and more.

Tuesday’s are no Monday and that my friends is a good thing. The new Fall 2008 Tuesday night schedule is more packed in terms of shows I’m interested in watching than it has been in a while. Last season the only thing I really watched on a Tuesday was The Biggest Loser which quickly shot to the top of my must watch list. I was kind of obsessed… just a tad.
This year the night kicks off with Trainer Bob and Crazy Ass Jillian with THE BIGGEST LOSER: FAMILIES and for reals, I cannot wait. I’ve missed doofy Bob and hard as frak Jillian kicking these fatties into shape. Not to mention, I’ve grown to love host Alison Sweeney… she’s kinda great. The show delivers guaranteed tears and let’s be honest… sometimes a good cry needs to be scheduled into your week – why not Tuesday night?
90210 is hands down the most hyped show of the new season but since they didn’t send it to the press or to us TV Bloggers we don’t know if it will be Cloverfield or Howard the Duck. I won’t lie, I’m super intrigued and crazy psyched to see what the reboot will be. I’m not dumb enough to think that it’s going to have the wit and bite that Gossip Girl provides but I hope that it’s not a total cheese-fest. Is there any denying that it’s going to be a huge success right out the gate? No. The biggest challenge for this new crop of West Beverly High kids will be trying to live up to the nostalgia of the original while creating a brand spanking new show of their own that people will care about past the premiere. I can’t promise I’m there past Week 1.
The CBS Psych-like newbie THE MENTALIST had a really fun yet dark pilot that I honestly enjoyed. I’ve never been a huge Simon Baker fan but as the lead observer/one-time fake psychic helping solves crimes from week to week, he’s quite engaging. He has a really dark past that ties into the main arc/big bad of the show but he’s still a man with a sense of humor not to mention kinda hot. As much as I don’t like Robin Tunney past 1997, she’s not nearly as bad and cheesy as she was in Prison Break. Amanda Righetti hasn’t been known for her Emmy winning worthy style of acting but I even enjoyed her here. I make no promises with my commitment to The Mentalist. It’s a good pilot and a fine premise but sometimes procedurals fall to the wayside when I get busy and let’s be honest… it’s up against the 2nd hour of The Biggest Loser and J.J. Abrams new bouncing baby girl Fringe so…
Yeah, FRINGE is pretty much kick ass and I cannot wait to see how this show develops. I did not have the overwhelming sense of being mind frakked after watching the pilot (like I had been with both Alias and Lost) but I’ve watched it a couple times already and I’m not sick of it so that’s a good sign right? I don’t need to go into details of the show because honestly, you’re all just as excited as I am. Anna Torv is a wonderful new find and tough as nails. Joshua Jackson in back in our lives and that’s never a bad thing. There’s a cow and it’s set in Boston… what’s not to love?
Also at 9:00 is The CW’s new series PRIVILEGED but look at the schedule above and know why I can’t watch. Couldn’t they move this to like Sunday night or something? That would work much better for me. CW take note.
Not to mention I’m already watching GREEK Season 2 so…
Finishing out the night is ELI STONE but the more I think about it, I don’t know that I’ll be watching – at least not live. It’s a show that might be pushed to my DVR or iTunes schedule. I’ve got a full night, what do you want from me? Plus I didn’t even mention that I get paid to watch THE JANICE DICKINSON MODELING AGENCY and recap for AfterElton.com so my 10 is full and money trumps Katie Holmes any day.

Hey tube viewers, I’ve been pretty absent this week because my family is here visiting but I wanted to quick get the new 90210 teasers up that feature the return of Brenda Walsh, Ms. Shannen Doherty.
Plus, this week we learned a little more about how Brenda returns and why! I’m not going to tell you how devastated I was to receive the email telling me I wasn’t getting the pilot screener this week, I’ll just show you the teasers.
NEWS WISE: It seems that Kelli Taylor will be the one responsible for bringing the bitch back to West Bev! She’ll personally contact Brenda (who’s still in London I believe) to invite her back to the famous zip code to direct the shool’s production of SPRING AWAKENING.
I both absolove and absohate this idea at the same time! Spring Awakening has been a pretty large obsession of mine for the last two years so I love that it’s getting some more hype (like it needs it) but at the same time, do we need a possibly very lame 90210 corruption of this masterpiece? Well I guess that’s the bitch of living…
Executive producer Jeff Judah told Zap2it.com, “We’re doing Spring Awakening. It’s a great play, a great musical. We thought it would be a really cool thing to do a contemporary musical instead of doing Annie Get Your Gun or something that a lot of high schools do. So if we could do a contemporary musical and put that in the show, it’s sort of also talking about how the show has changed in the last 20 years.”
We are fast approaching the second coming of 90210 and if you’re anything like me, you’re dying to get your hands on anything and everything West Beverly 2008 related. Here is the newest promo video featuring shots of alums Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth (side by side no less).
Thanks to GMMR for posting first, girls got my back.

E!’s super gal KDS (Kristin Dos Santos) posted yet another new 90210 video. This time we get the entire cast at once!
I can’t tell if its lame or amazing that I’m so excited for this show to premiere this fall? It’s okay, right? Is it sad that I’m 34 and dying to see these tweens hit the tube?
I’ve been thinking about this ever since the announcement that Jennie Garth will reprise her original role of Kelly Taylor on The CW’s new 90210. If Jennie Garth (and now Tori Spelling) weren’t along for the ride in even their limited capacity, would you still be as interested in the new show?
Does it scare you at all that she has no clue what’s going on or if she even wants to be on the show? I hope its just cluelessness and not being in the loop on everything instead of little interest on Garth’s part. Fingers crossed that her part is big enough for her to want to be involved on a more regular basis.
CBS didn’t waste time getting The CW’s first 90210 cast photo online! Here’s the new gang from West Beverly High (sans new Guidance Counselor, Ms. Kelly Taylor aka Jennie Garth).

They are from left:
Dustin Milligan, AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Walter, Shenae Grimes, Tristan Wilds, Lori Loughlin, Ryan Eggold, Jessica Stroup and Michael Steger
PS – How hot is Lori Loughlin for being like 100? Love that lady. Oh and Jessica Walters better not disappoint. I expect her drunk and belligerent because that’s how I like her. Shenae Grimes aka Degrassi’s Darcy… girl you know I love you and this makes my heart swell with gay pride that one of my Degrassi kids is making it big time (I hope).
