Whatever, Martha! Ducky Does Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Hutt

This is my last post before leaving for my AIDS Ride and I wanted it to be something fun for you all to read over while I’m gone. If you’ve been following my twitter’s you know that I’m kinda sorta crazy coo coo bananas over WHATEVER, MARTHA! with Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Hutt.

I’ve been a huge fan of their Sirius show, Whatever Radio for a couple years now and they slay me on a regular basis. I simply heart these two women. Alexis is of course the daughter of Martha Stewart and along with her friend Jennifer, they’re going all MST3K on old Martha Stewart Living episodes. That’s right, they’re taking the queen to task and the show (airing Tuesdays at 9pm on Fine Living Network) is a work of comedic genius. (Check out some videos and tell me I’m wrong)

I got a chance to ask the ladies some questions and here’s what they had to say!

Whatever, Martha seems like the perfect obvious choice for a show (especially with the two of you) so I was wondering who came up with the idea? Were you just sitting around one day, laughing your asses off watching old Martha reruns and thinking how funny it would be to deconstruct and comment on how ridonkulous some of the segments were.

Jennifer: Martha came up with the idea for the show. She watched a lot of Mystery Science Theater 3,000 and decided we’d be the right people to poke fun at her.

Alexis: Martha came up with the idea. She is an insomniac and often enjoys watching Mystery Science Theater 3000. About a year or so ago she though Jennifer and I should do a similar kind of thing with her show.

Alexis, you know your Mother so well that you can probably read into her body language or facial expressions and anticipate what’s coming next or even what’s happening behind the scenes… Does that make commenting on some of the old Martha shows even funnier for you or do you watch in horror and just blurt out the first thing that comes to mind?

Alexis: Both! We did not edit ourselves, but rather left that to the professionals.

You have a pretty big gay following for the radio show, do you expect every crafty queen to follow you to the Fine Living Network? Do you see them as part of your target audience or just a fashionable and bitchy bonus?

Jennifer: I love the gays! I think we are incredibly lucky that so many fabulous people – gay and straight- can identify with our radio show and I hope they will follow us to Fine Living Network. Our radio fans feel like friends to me, friends who seem to like us despite all of our foibles and idiosyncrasies.

Alexis: We don’t target any audience and have listeners of all shapes and sizes, grandmas, teenagers, mothers, doctors, truck drivers, carpenters, plumbers, etc. Every listener is a bonus!
