Tonight there is so much television to watch, I think I might explode. Here’s what I’m excited about on the tube tonight.
8pm - GOSSIP GIRL - I cannot wait to see the fallout from Ashergate for Little J and seriously, will alien face Serena return to whack again?
8pm - AMERICAN GLADIATORS - Hells yes, it returns tonight with Evan and Monica as new gladiators. Sweet!
8-9pm: CBS’s BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER hour! Wait, shit I already have listed 2 things at 8. Well this is rid-god-damn-diculous. Britney’s back and she’s not that innocent (she is after all dating Barney).
8pm: GREEK. Wait a frakkin’ minute here. 4 shows on at the same time? For reals? Tonight Dept. Leo makes a play for Calvin. Ah, Max Greenfield…
Look, then at 9pm all I have is the 2nd hour of Gladiator. Honestly, a network couldn’t spread the love out amongst the hours? Seriously?
Then at 10pm it’s the finale of THE HILLS followed by my new favorite show THE PAPER! Those kids are crazy evil and I loves it.
I’m the biggest dork ever. I just now realized that tonight is the return of the all new (and all amazing) AMERICAN GLADIATORS over on NBC.
I’m psyched to see the Season 1 power houses become Gladiators (Evan is “Rocket” and Monica is “Jet”) - plus there’s a new chick named Phoenix. It’s going to be cramazing!
It’s 2 hours of power baby starting at 8pm (NBC). Don’t forget to check out the newest Gladiator Face-Off and something new for Facebook fans.
The WGA Strike continues well into the Day 90s so the television landscape is like no winter we’ve seen before. Kath and I are back to talk about Lost’s return as well as the return of American Idol.

The return of AMERICAN GLADIATORS is going to be a much debated topic. Some folks are pissed that reality shows are taking over in the wake of the WGA Strike so they don’t want folks to watch the new shows. I on the other hand loved Gladiators as a child and it truly contributed to some of my first naughty naughty dreams (man on man action in tights with some hefty bulges… come on now) so I was all about tuning to see what pops up.
The new Gladiators are freakazoids! I know that the originals are now in walkers or Weight Watchers but it did take me a minute to come to terms with the fact that there’s no Nitro or Lace to contend with this time around. Instead we have the creepiest plastic surgerized face of Titan, the way overused howl of Wolf, the wrap around instead of the tights Toa, the can’t stop overstepping my platform Mayhem, the butch mohawk of Justice and the gay porn of Militia.
Over on the ladies side we have Alexis Arquette Fury (if that ain’t a tranny, I ain’t gay), the incredibly hot Crush, the crispy Jersey bangs of Siren, the fierce Stealth, the weak Venom and the burly blonde Hellga.
So what did I think? I think they dashed my childhood dreams… I know they haven’t added cups to those unitards. That ain’t right. How are we supposed to separate the boys from the men?
Overall it was fun having some of the original events represented. I love me some Gauntlet, Hang Tough and Joust though I’ve always hated that damn Power Ball. The new events are all pretty strong. Pyramid is bound to break someone’s neck, the Wall looks tough as hell, and how cool is Hit and Run? The new Eliminator is seriously hardcore. The moved the Travelator to the end of the course and if you remember, that’s how the final event began. It gave people trouble back in the day and it’s 100% worse now because these folks are beat down by the time they reach it. What the frak is up with the big roller thing you wrap yourself around? Loves it!
As for the hosts, I’m pleasantly surprised at how awesome Laila Ali is. Sure she’s almost as manly as Fury but she brings some great energy and relatability to the position. On the flip side we have the incredibly stiff and tired Hulkster. He just needs to go home to Florida and deal with his family matters. Laila’s got this under control. How about when she almost brought the smack down on old man Jeff, the contestant who returned 14 years after missing his first shot back in 1994, when he started flinging water around? Oh hells no!
Gladiators airs again tomorrow in it’s regular weekly timeslot, Monday’s at 8/7c over on NBC. Did you guys watch? What did you think?
*UPDATE: I’ve already had to defend my post in emails this morning. Who knew people would take me to task for liking Gladiators last night. Let me clarify once and for all. American Gladiators is not Pushing Daisies. It’s not Buffy, it’s not Twin Peaks or My So Called Life. It’s not The Soprano’s. It’s a really cheesy, really ridiculous reality competition show that is so craptacular that it’s incredibly awesome to watch. It’s mindless and entertaining, it’s exactly what I want it to be. Period. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s good clean fun.
