Another week, another American Idol, another scandal involving contestant David Hernandez. The kids got more skeletons in his closet that I feel he’ll be forced out before too long. First we learned that he worked in a gay bar in Phoenix named Burn, and now it’s come out that he was a stripper for 3 years at a place called Dick’s! Head on over to my AfterElton write up to read all about it.
While you’re there, check out the newest video preview for Bravo’s Make Me a Supermodel with a much blonder Niki Taylor, a still sexy as all get our Perry, Ronnie’s moping around and the two best girls left to fight it out with all these damn fine menssss. (Video not up yet but will be soon, keep checking)
Just quickly I had to post my two favorite performances from this week’s AMERICAN IDOL Top 20. I have to say that I’m not in love with more than a couple of the Top 20 and my faves tickle me in ways only Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry have previously.
Little David Archuleta is just damn ‘dorable and I want to eat him up! Last night he killed with his rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” and at this point the kids in it for the win.
Then there’s my girl Carly Smithson who busted out some Heart “Crazy on You”! She could be the 3rd Wilson sister. And here’s another reason to love Carly, she works at my favorite San Diego Pub, The Field which GMMR, Seat42F, and Rae and I frequented numerous times while at Comic-Con. I know, me at a Pub? It’s odd but the food is amazing there.
The WGA Strike continues well into the Day 90s so the television landscape is like no winter we’ve seen before. Kath and I are back to talk about Lost’s return as well as the return of American Idol.
Also on the agenda are Friday Night Lights, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Prison Break, American Gladiators, Paradise Hotel, Project Runway, Torchwood, Pushing Daisies, Comic-Con 2008 and much more.

I’m happy that Paula Abdul seems to be having some ambition to get public image back to what it was so I’m all about Paula busting some moves on stage. Yesterday afternoon during the Super Bowl Pre-Show they aired a pre-taped performance of her new song “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” and I was so annoyed because I missed it. Thank the gods for youtube because someone posted the super suckage for all of our enjoyment and mockery.
Watch Paula Abdul’s “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” Performance
I would love to comment on her “performance” but seeing how the camera never had a close up that could show her not being able to lip-sync properly not to mention that it was soooooo overly produced and digitally stylized, I’ll only comment that the song sucks donkey dicks.
Last night I had a hard time watching television, but damnit I forced myself to overcome the urge to not turn on the tube because the allure of my newest obsession The Biggest Loser: Couples was too strong to resist.
Where can I get my own personal Jillian? She’s terrific television and the scariest bitch on earth when it comes to kicking peoples asses into gear. If I had her in my life I’d be able to do a triathalon someday (though, I could do without the running part – is there a designated runner position in a triathalon?) or at least look good at the beach. What I’m getting at is the groups picked to be a part of her new Black Team last night need to stop the big belly aching and get their asses into shape. Most of them barely lost weight and in the case of Paul he gained a pound or two.
I know she’s like the challenge of the underdog but if they don’t step it up she doesn’t stand a chance of shoving victory in Bob’s face once again.
Today someone asked me if I was excited to see Jenn (formerly Purple) go home and the answer is “Hell Yes!” The girl sucked. Up until this week she was pulling some really low numbers and I’m sorry if you think that means people perceived you as lazy… you kind of were. Now if we can just get rid of her purple people eater partner in crime my life will feel a little more complete. Yes, I know I’m a horrible person.
Over on American Idol, did you guys catch “The Homecoming Queen” Leo Marlowe? I think he’s absolutely adorable and while he’s no Sinatra, he’s good enough vocally and entertaining enough personality wise to kick it in Hollywood. I hope he does well if when we get to those dreaded group sing-a-longs and eliminations the Hollywood round is so famous for. Click here to read my thoughts on Leo and to watch his audition.
Over on the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency she proved once and for all that she’s a total PR whore for not only herself but all of her friends! Check out how many times she can say the words “Christian” and “Audigier” not if for the last time she has words with her supposed Business Partner Peter Hamm. Oh, and there’s plenty of hot male semi-nude action as well as some Vegas debauchery. Here’s my AfterElton recap of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.
I’ve been super busy with work lately and have barely had a moment to catch up on the most recent Britney scandal (preggers again Brit, planned parenthood much?). I’ve seen some television over the past couple days but not a whole ton so I don’t have much to write about that hasn’t already been said.
If you caught the premiere of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles you weren’t alone. Approx 18 million of you tuned in to see Lena Headey take on the iconic badass role and battles some robots. The premiere was action packed and gave you the sense of urgency and panic surrounding the Connors. The second episode is a little slow but in general I still enjoyed it.
They need to make Summer Glau’s Cameron a little less robotic because she’s borderline Vicki from Small Wonders and they need to steer clear of a romance between John and the toaster. Who else got excited for LOST when Penny Whidmore walked on screen? Back in his OZ days I would have said she’d done well for herself but Dean Winters doesn’t hold a candle to Lost’s Desmond. Is it January 31st yet?
If you want to see video of Terminator’s newest John Connor making a complete ass out of himself on the dancefloor, click here.
Last night was the premiere of American Idol Season 7 but overall it was pretty boring. I was happy to see the gang back and cracking jokes at each others expense, I was also pretty happe to see Ryan and Simon laying off the gay remarks. Oh there were some sad sacks attending the Philly auditions but nothing can top Crazy Sparkle Pirate Alexis and her inability to not flip the bird at the camera. Who died when she made up a new career? “I’m going for actressing!” Is that what each and every aspiring actress in Hollwood that’s busing tables is striving to do? Actressing? Genius!
I’m not going to lie, I got a kick out of watching Paula, Randy, and Simon either laugh their way through auditions or die trying. I was fearful that they’d lay into Temptress who has such a sad story (I mean she’s a linebacker for her high school football team, come on) but thankfully they had heart and made the best of the situation. The same can’t be said for their treatment of Paula’s stalker. What was that freak all about? This is why they have security on that show. He wanted to fillet up some of Paula’s skin and pretend he’s eating Funyuns.
There were too many commercials but on Tivo the 2 hours flew by in about 65 minutes! From Philly, only 29 young hopefuls made it to Hollywood. Tonight the journey continues and I’m almost certain it will be a bigger group of idiots than it was last night! God, I hope so. Click here to read my thoughts about last night’s episode on AfterElton.com.
If you’re not watching The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency I can’t really blame you. It’s not Pulitzer Prize winner fare but damn if I don’t love it. If you’re a fan of Janice’s from her days on Top Model then you owe it to yourself to watch this show (airs on Oxygen). If you’re a fan of naked men lying all over each other, rubbing each other down, and butt cleavage then you must tune in. Read my recap of last night’s episode over at AfterElton.com.
Tonight we have another episode of Project Runway to look forward to and I’ve got my fingers crossed that Christian can pull it together and stick around for another week. I’ll miss his hysterical commentary too much if he’s eliminated.
If you’ve been following my Twitter, then you’ve already heard me tease a new writing gig. It’s not like I’m quitting my job to be a blogger for TV Guide or anything life changing but for me this is very exciting.
As of today I’ve begun writing about TV for AfterElton.com, the gay entertainment companion site for LOGO (MTV’s homorific sister network). I’m going to be dishing TV for their blog and my first post went live today!
So what will I be covering and how is that different from this site? As it’s a gay site I’ll be showcasing some of my more fabulous television viewings. My first assignment was to take over writing about The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency (read my first post and comment so I don’t lose this gig as fast as I got it).
Starting tomorrow night I’ll be Liveblogging the premiere of Bravo’s MAKE ME A SUPERMODEL and starting next week it’s AMERICAN IDOL baby!
I hope you guys will head on over and check out my post and support my side venture. Thanks gang, you’re the best!
*UPDATED: This information below was based on The CW’s first initial press release which was later revised after I posted this. The Supernatural dates are wrong. The show returns January 31st and ends February 21st.
Now that we’re in 2008 and the WGA Strike is not coming to an end anytime soon, it’s time for the networks to shake things up once again. This time it’s The CW and they’re tinkering with some of my faves… not pleased.
Starting February 28th, SUPERNATURAL will not even be in repeats as The CW takes it off the schedule and replaces it with the crap that is Reaper.
Starting Monday, January 28th GOSSIP GIRL will move to Monday’s in order to dodge the freight train that is AMERICAN IDOL.
FOX is killing me, first and foremost because they’re moving my new favorite obsession BONES to Friday nights at 9/8c. What the frak is that all about? If there were new episodes with Booth and Brennan would they still make the move? This is bothersome to me.
I guess you’re wondering what’s moving to when and where. They’ve once again delayed the premiere of NEW AMSTERDAM until March, same goes for CANTERBURY’S LAW. If you’re wondering, Parker Posey’s JEZEBEL JAMES gets a Friday stinker premiere in March as well. HOUSE moves to Mondays, IDOL takes on Thursdays, and TIL DEATH moves as well.
From Fox’s Press Release:
New drama series NEW AMSTERDAM and CANTERBURY’S LAW will air Mondays on FOX. NEW AMSTERDAM debuts Monday, March 10 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) with special previews of the first two episodes airing Tuesday, March 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, March 6 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), respectively, on FOX. CANTERBURY’S LAW starts making its case Monday, April 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). And new comedy THE RETURN OF JEZEBEL JAMES will premiere Friday, March 14 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) following a sneak preview airing after AMERICAN IDOL on Wednesday, March 12 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT).
All-new episodes of BACK TO YOU will air Tuesday, Feb. 26 and Wednesday, Feb. 27 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) following extended 90-minute AMERICAN IDOL episodes. On Wednesday, March 19 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), BACK TO YOU makes its time period premiere, then returns one week later on Tuesday, March 25 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) with an all-new episode following a new extended AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:30 PM ET/PT). ‘TIL DEATH also kicks off all-new episodes when it makes its time period premiere Friday, March 14 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT).
In addition, ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER? will air an original episode after AMERICAN IDOL on Thursday, Feb. 21 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). HOUSE will now encore on Mondays at 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT beginning March 10 and encore episodes of BONES move to 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT – the show’s time period premiere – on Friday, March 14.
Due to the STATE OF THE UNION address on Monday, Jan. 28, PRISON BREAK will now have its season finale Monday, Feb. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), and TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES will end its season with an explosive two-hour finale Monday, March 3 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Additionally, NEW AMSTERDAM will air its last episodes of the season during a two-hour finale Monday, April 7 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).
What’s with the super short seasons for New Amsterdam and Terminator? I understand the strike killed these shows as well but come on, these were heralded as Fox’s big shows way back in May 2007.
We’re about to enter Week 5 of the WGA Strike so GMMR and I give you the rundown on how many original episodes are left for most shows. We then discuss this season’s plot points thus far as well as whether or not each show is living up to our expectations.
Sit back and relax, it’s our TV Podcast #17 and here are the shows we’ll cover in depth.
Chuck, Prison Break, Heroes, House, Bones, Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Supernatural, Friday Night Lights, The Amazing Race, Brothers & Sisters, Project Runway and more.

Apparently the “talent” pool is widening because AMERICAN IDOL is going to be allowing the contestants to play instruments… if they know how.
According to TV Guide:
When American Idol debuts its eighth season, a new element will be added: “We’re going to let the contestants play instruments if they can,” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TV Guide at the Nov. 8 Discovery Awards.
The hit Fox series will also feature “mentors” less often. “We realized that we took our eye off the ball and didn’t concentrate on the true talent on the show, and that’s the [wannabes],” says Lythgoe. As such, this season “we’ve got [mentors] just every other week.”
I just keep telling myself that I am not going to watch Idol this year. No way, no how. Enough is enough and if the strike is on, I really can’t watch. Support Scripted Television folks!
The lamest of awards, The People’s Choice Award nominees were announced this morning and I’m happy to report that in the NEW categories, some of my faves are for once represented. The list is actually not too bad this year.
Here are the 2007 People’s Choice Award Nominees

Wait, it looks like every new show is up for an award. I told you these awards were lame. Go Barney, Pushing Daisies, Battlestar, Doctor Who, KHeigl, Chandra, Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Gossip Girl, and Dirty Sexy Money!
I’m not gonna lie when I tell you that it amazes Pickle, Kellie Pickler is becoming an actual legit country star. Here is a great video from last night’s Country Music Awards of Kelli Pickler’s new single “I Wonder.” It’s quite the emotional performance and I kid you not, the girl gets a standing O. Who knew?
Girls come a long way from Idol. Thanks to GMMR for the tip.
Raise your hands if you think High School Musical 2 will kick some booty tonight? My girl Kelly Clarkson is going to be performing! Work it girl. Also performing tonight, Fergie doing that damn song I love “Big Girls Don’t Cry” – no they don’t! Oh and hideous Avril Lavigne will perform too.
Celebrities scheduled to appear at TEEN CHOICE 2007 include Jessica Alba, America Ferrera, Megan Fox , Emmy Rossum, Lauren Conrad, Jordin Sparks, Miley Cyrus, Anna Paquin, Vanessa Hudgens, Eve, Dane Cook , Jared Padalecki, Taylor Kitsch, Steve Carell, Shia LaBeouf, Ryan Seacrest, David Spade, Michael Cera, Jonah Hill & Christopher Minze-Plasse, Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and musicians Bow Wow, Ludacris, Chingy, Ashlee Simpson, The Jonas Brothers, Omarion and Sum 41.
I normally wouldn’t even mention that the TEEN CHOICE AWARDS are on tonight, but as I was looking at the list of nominees, I couldn’t help wonder how old the teens are. I mean, did they poll adult actors who play teens on television shows? Look at the nominees and tell me if you find any of it strange? (more…)
