Fall Schmall… The Winter 2010 TV schedule is cuckoo-bananas! Ducky and GMMR sat down, screeners in hand, mapped out all the premiere dates and dished the dirt on all the new and returning shows.
What did we think of the first 5 episodes of CHUCK Season 3? What about the new season of 24 featuring Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff)? What about new shows like LIFE UNEXPECTED, THE DEEP END, CAPRICA, HAPPY TOWN and HUMAN TARGET?
Want to know when DAMAGES, LOST, SOUTHLAND, GLEE and NURSE JACKIE return? Want to know how long you have to wait for Lauren Graham to shine in PARENTHOOD? How many more weeks until the return of TV Talk’s recurring listener fave “2 Idiots Talk LOST”?
Being the horror/sci-fi loving homo that I am, I always look forward to the Spike TV SCREAM AWARDS. You’re mixing blood, gore, splatter porn and sci-fi geekiness with a red carpet and awards show… it’s soooo up my alley!
At 10pm tonight, Muse, Tricia Helfer, Stephen Moyer, Alan Ball, Johnny Depp, Liv Tyler, Megan Fox, Katee Sackhoff, Taylor Lautner, Quentin Tarantino, Tobey Maguire ,the cast of The Big Bang Theory, J.J. Abrams, Harrison Ford, Keith Richards, Morgan Freeman, William Shatner and more will grace the stage and present the best in horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comics.
If you don’t feel like staying up late to see the goths in the audience or to see the horror that is Isabel Lucas’ eyebrows and just want to know who won, check out the list of winners after the jump… (more…)
After last year’s Comic-Con I was worn out, my flight to and from San Diego had been canceled and rescheduled, I was ready to slap anyone wearing a costume and I may or may not have made a commitment then and there to not attend this year. My partner in crime, Kath from Give Me My Remote felt the same way and so we went about our year not planning on returning to San Diego for 2009.
When I was laid off, the decision seemed like perfection. I would have less money for one and if I got a new job, chances were it would be closer to the Con and I wouldn’t have the time off available to me that I’ve had in the past. Obvious, right?
Flash-forward to the middle of July and I start regretting my decision. I’m still unemployed and with the Press Pass and a probable free flight I started wondering why the frak I didn’t go. The answer was simple though, I was competing in my first triathlon and that was Comic-Con weekend. It was a distraction for the actual weekend but not the time leading up to and during the start of SDCC09.
Once all of my blogger friends, PR folks from the networks and shows started plotting their schedules, the interviews, the press rooms, etc. I really started to have mini-panic attacks that I would be missing out on all the fun and yes, even the chaos.
Here are the things I’ll have missed most about not having been at Comic-Con this past weekend:
My friends/comrades in all things Con (esp. Rae, Amrie, Holly, Winson, Susan, Jen G. and my girl Moira)
Being in a hotel for 5 nights but only for a couple hours of sleeping and lots of laughing our asses off.
Our annual trip to Bucca!
The Press Rooms (its always fun to have some alone time with my fave TV stars/writers/creators)
People watching, esp. seeing all the people in costumes!
Making fun of people!
Eating only one not-so-square meal a day
Jockeying for positions (though I don’t miss that at the same time)
Walking the floor or rather hanging out atop the floor in the WB lounge.
The GLEE panel and my chance to rape Cory Monteith’s face!
Seeing David Tennant at the Doctor Who panel. The one year I don’t go his ass shows up…
The Torchwood panel
The True Blood panel (after last years snore fest, I hear this year was much better)
The Supernatural panel and meeting Mischa Collins (I will always regret that one)
The Big Bang Theory gang (last year they were so fun both in press and panel)
Zachary Quinto (in any shape/form)
The Nightmare on Elm Street panel
The Prisoner redux panel
Jeffster performance and the Chuck panel (though I bet GMMR is more upset than I – seeing how she got a shout out and all)
Cheese Sticks
The New Moon panel (yes, I said it)
Waiting in that ridonk Starbucks line
The Middleman panel (and the hotness that is Matt Kesslar)
The Caprica panel
The final Lost panel
Obviously the list could go on for days but off the top of my head these are the things that annoyed me while I was at home all weekend. There are more online friends and PR people that I didn’t give a shout out to but I would have loved to hang with all of you as well and maybe next year we’ll be back in full swing! SDCC2010 or Bust!
I just wanted to quickly remind everyone that tonight is the GREEK season finale (“At World’s End”) over on ABC Family!
It’s been a wonderful season for GREEK and I can’t say I love this show any more than I do right now. I’ve enjoyed watching Casey and Max’s relationship blossom and fade, I’ve enjoyed watching Rusty finally get some, I’ve enjoyed Cal getting some storyline, Beck’s going gay, Evan and Cap rekindling their friendship and Ash getting some hot man action… oh and don’t forget Dale getting (or at least fighting off) some action.
I’ve watched the finale twice already (yes, I adored it that much) and I’m sad that the season is over. There are so many possibilities for next season that my mind grapes might explode if I think about them too much.
Here’s what I can tell you this about what goes down tonight at Cypress Rhodes… Someone goes gay, someone throws their purity pledge ring away, someone gets some hot cougar action, someone’s in a coffin, someone’s missing the biggest party of the world, someone’s busted for pot, someone’s spending seven minutes in heaven (or 2 minutes in a cramped closet), someone’s coming back to CRU, someone’s leaving CRU and someone loves them a muffin top! Curious? I know you are…
Check out a preview of tonight’s GREEK season finale:
And finally, check a clip from tonight’s finale:
GREEK’s season finale airs tonight at 8pm on ABC Family!
My buddy Scooter McGavin has once again come up with a great poll for TV Bloggers to participate in. This time we were tasked with coming up with our Favorite TV Duos (couples, partners, friends, enemies, etc.) from the current 2008/09 season.
After some major Snapple Abacus action, here is the list we came up with.
TV’s Top 25 Duos (2008/09 Season)
1. Coach Eric and Tammy Taylor (Friday Night Lights)
2. Liz Lemon and Jack Donagy (30 Rock)
3. Sheldon Cooper Ph.D. and Penny (The Big Bang Theory)
4. Jim Halpert and Dwight Shrute (The Office)
5. Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons (Damages)
6. “Bones” and Special Agent Seeley Booth (Bones)
7. Emerson Cod and Olive Snook (Pushing Daisies)
8. Blair Waldolf and Chuck Bass (Gossip Girl)
9. Shawn Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster (Psych)
10. Chuck Bartowski and Special Agent Sarah Walker (Chuck)
11. Sam and Dean Winchester (Supernat ural)
12. Marc St. James and Amanda Tannen (Ugly Betty)
13. Barney Stinson and Ted Mosbey (How I Met Your Mother)
14. Bill Adama and Laura Roslin (Battlestar Gallactica)
15. Landry Clark and Tyra Colette (Friday Night Lights)
16. Ben Linus and John Locke (Lost)
17. John “J.D.” Dorian M.D. and Dr. Christopher Turk (Scrubs)
18. Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton (True Blood)
19. Jeff Patel and Lester Barnes aka Jeffster (Chuck)
20. James “Sawyer” Ford and Juliet Burke (Lost)
21. Homer and Marge Simpson (The Simpsons)
22. Bill Adma and Saul Tigh (Battestar Galactica)
23. Richard Cypher and Kahlan Amnell (Legend of the Seeker)
24. Earl and Randy Hickey (My Name Is Earl)
25. Michael Westen and Fiona Glenanne (Burn Notice)
I’ve gotta say that I’m pretty surprised by some of these picks, especially some of the rankings. Homer and Marge? Really folks? Welcome to 1989! How do you choose Barney and Ted as a combo? Sure I love love love me some HIMYM and I wanted to include Barney and someone but really there’s no good pick. He’s awesome with everyone but no single character is better with him than others… that’s just my opinion. Sookie and Bill? Honestly? Legend of the Seeker? Why not pick Xina and her dykey friend Gabriella? Makes no sense to me.
For full disclosure, here’s my Top 10 list:
1. Bill Adama and Laura Roslin (Battlestar Galactica)
2. Coach Taylor and Tami Taylor (Friday Night Lights)
3. James “Sawyer” Ford and Juliet Burke (Lost)
4. Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy (30 Rock)
5. Michael Westen and Fiona Glenanne (Burn Notice)
6. Booth and Bones (Bones)
7. Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons (Damages)
8. Sheldon Cooper and Penny (The Big Bang Theory)
9. Emerson Cod and Olive Snook (Pushing Daisies)
10. Casey Cartwright and Frannie Morgan (Greek)
I know what you’re thinking… where the hell are Sam & Dean Winchester?! The truth is that they didn’t even cross my mind. Not once did my boys pop into my head and that makes me sad. I honestly would put them in the Top 5 but I spaced – sorry SPN boys and girls, I’m totally embarrassed. I’m also sad I didn’t include The Doctor and Donna (DOCTOR WHO), Capt. Jack and Ianto (TORCHWOOD) or even Trainer’s Bob and Jillian (THE BIGGEST LOSER). Given a Top 25 I would have included more choices and if I thought about my Top 10 a little better, it would be somewhat different but what can ya do?
How about you guys? Which TV Duos would make your list for the 2008/09 TV Season?
Sci-Fi’s BSG prequel of sorts, CAPRICA will be released on DVD April 21st. As I’ve mentioned before, the premiere of Caprica will be on DVD before it actually airs on your television screen.
In these recession times the best way to watch CAPRICA is for free? Ducky Does TV is happy to host a contest for you to win your very own copy of Caprica courtesy of Universal Home Entertainment.
First, watch this new clip from CAPRICA:
Second, in the comments section tell me what you’re most interested in learning about the BSG world through Caprica.
Third, I pick a winner on April 21st and huzzah, two lucky people win free copies of Caprica! That’s right, 2 winners!
Fourth, while you’re waiting for me to announce the winners, check out Discover Caprica for exclusive video clips and more info about the show.
CAPRICA SYNOPSIS:
An astonishing breakthrough is taking shape on the planet Caprica. The rapidly evolving spheres of human and mechanical engineering have collided, along with the fates of two families. Joined by tragedy in an explosive instant of terror, two rival clans led by powerful patriarchs, Joseph Adama (Esai Morales, Jericho) and Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz, The Butterfly Effect) duel in an era of questionable ethics, corporate machinations and unbridled personal ambition as the final war for humanity looms. The latest phenomenon from the executive producers of Battlestar Galactica (Ronald D. Moore and David Eick), set in a time over 50 years earlier, Caprica is entirely its own world – provocative, thrilling and startling relevant to our own.
You’ll notice that after last week’s BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Series Finale, I didn’t post anything. In part because I just wanted to take it all in and mourn one of the best shows to ever grace my television set and in part because I knew Kath and I would be doing a huge podcast.
Finally, we got around to talking about the highs, the lows, the good, the bad and the cylon of it all.
We’re back and talking TV. We’re breaking down the past TV week for you and covering a lot of the week’s best shows including: Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, Gossip Girl, Castle, Idol, Better Off Ted, Damages, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, 30 Rock, Dollhouse, Friday Night Lights, Party Down, The Amazing Race, Supernatural, Kings, Brothers & Sisters, My Boys, Greek and much more!
And it wouldn’t be a TV Talk Podcast without Two Idiots Talk Lost.
Oh, if you’re wondering where the frak the Battlestar Galactica Finale talk is, hold tight. We posted a special BSG Series Finale Podcast that will be posted shortly.
Housekeeping…
We received a ton of emails from listeners saying they liked the new chapter markers we made available for while last week. As we explain at the top of this week’s podcast, adding chapter markers doubles the size of the podcast and increases our bandwidth fees. As a result we’ve added a PayPal Donation button to The TV Talk Podcast site. ALL donations go directly to the costs associated with producing the podcast and maintaining the site.

Now that BATTLESTAR has retired, it’s time for it’s prequel to kick into high gear. All hail CAPRICA! The two hour premiere event aka the Caprica premiere will be released on DVD April 21st but won’t actually premiere on the Sci-Fi channel until Fall. Random, I know…
Ducky’s back from vacation which means it’s time for another TV Talk Podcast! We have almost 3 weeks to cover so make yourself some tea, get a snack and settle in for the soothing cackles and rants we’re about to sling your way.
We start as we always do, Monday nights. BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER continues to be the best damn double bill on television. CHUCK goes to the suburbs, tests his best friendship with Morgan and breaks up with Sarah, say what? HEROES hits rock bottom and Matt Dallas shows his rock hard… abs!
THE BIGGEST LOSER 7 pisses Ducky off and shockingly Kath watched! PRIVILEGED aired what may have been it’s series finale and is to be continued but when considering The CW renewed a bunch of shows already. AMERICAN IDOL continues to rock on while randomly REAPER returns.
TOP CHEF has a shocking finale while Kath gets a shocker as she realizes she missed DAMAGES last week mid-recap.
SURVIVOR’s getting ugly, Sweeps are in March, 30 ROCK gets political, AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW kills it and I might kill Kath for something she says about BURN NOTICE.
Over on Friday’s there’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA to discuss before breezing through Sunday’s THE AMAZING RACE because really you just want to listen to…
TWO IDIOTS TALK LOST!
NEWS: We have a permanent home for the podcast, a new site! Visit: TheTVTalkPodcast.com
Chuck scored with a 3-D Superbowl episode, Gossip Girl sends Blair over the deep end, Heroes returns with some promise and the double punch of Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother once again make us laugh our asses off. Privileged said good bye to our boy Charlie, The Biggest Loser sent one pissed off contestant home and Fringe got prickly. Idol finally hits Hollywood week and America’s Best Dance Crew got all “It’s Britney Bitch” on us.
The Office got super-sized for the Super Bowl but did it score a home run, er… ABC falsely promotes a Grey’s/Private Practice crossover and Supernatural went back to the future. Battlestar Galactica got frakkin crazy while Friday Night Lights taught us how the other half lives. SNL scores a really hot but really random host and of course, Two Idiots Talk Lost!
As a bonus, it’s game time so get ready to play along at home.
Totally non-TV related, I’m stuck in Houston (where it was 80 and sunny today) for another night thanks to the impending storm about to bitch slap Boston. I was schedule to fly home tomorrow afternoon but when I logged on tonight to print my boarding pass, the flights to NYC and Boston were already canceled.
I guess JetBlue isn’t taking any chances because they’re taking early early preemptive measures to cover their asses. This is the one time that I don’t really mind being stranded in another city thanks to JetBlue’s over-zealous cancellations because I’m staying with family and I’m unemployed so it’s not like I’m on some work induced time table.
Remember this summer when Kath and I got stuck in San Diego trying to go home from Comic-Con? That was a bitch because we had to pay for hotels and food and I had to call work and take another vacation day… not this time baby!
Now I get to go to the Blue Bell Ice Cream Factory for a tour tomorrow! BRING IT BITCHES! Oh and I can stalk Coach and Tami Taylor (as if they’re real people).
There is a downside though… I’m seriously behind on my TV watching. I still need to watch last week’s Supernatural and Battlestar not to mention this week’s Fringe and I think I’m two episodes behind on Gossip Girl. I’ll do my best to catch up, promise!
The TV Talk Podcast with GMMR and Ducky is back and we’ve got a crazy amount of stuff to talk about. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA revealed it’s 5th Cylon, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS returns with some hot Riggins action, DAMAGES still blows our minds, PRIVILEGED begins to get lazy, and GREY’S ANATOMY slips on the “Stairway to Heaven”.
I’m not even going to try and write up something intelligible about the first of the last BATTLESTAR GALACTICA episodes because one idiot talking BSG isn’t nearly as fun as two. I’m going to stumble my way through the main character developments but surely I’ll have missed something or misunderstood something so do not take my blog post as the gospel according to Ron Moore. I promise that in our next TV TALK PODCAST, GMMR and I will talk about it but I felt that I had to post something so here goes.
I truly enjoyed the hour and was so happy to have the gang back even if they were super depressed and left with little or no hope in their lives.
Post revelation, Roslin is so down in the dumps that she won’t listen to Bill, Lee or those Pythian scrolls any longer and has decided to stop her treatments for cancer… It’s a girls right to choose, even in space.
Bill starts off the hour being the drunkest sadsack ever but by the end he manages to find common ground with his Cylon buddy One Eyed Tigh. I kind of love that at the end he gives some crazy awesome speech that once again gives the fleet hope for a new tomorrow. Just a little smidge anyway.
Lee, my sweet sweet hotass Lee… He had one hell of a ride this episode didn’t he? He was forced to tell the fleet of what they found on Earth, he had a little heart to heart with his ex-wife Dualla, buried his ex-wife Dualla (she shot herself after one last date night with Lee – I guess it was all too much for D) and still managed to be more of a President than Roslin could be in her state of depression. Gotta always love Lee for stepping up to the plate and looking damn fine in a suit, a towel or nothing.
Starbuck’s journey was the most confusing and intriguing of the night. Remember way back a season and a half ago when Starbuck went missing and they all thought the girl to be dead? Well, apparently she is… sorta. I don’t know. Starbuck and Leoben find the source of the signal that helped lead them to Earth – it was coming from Kara’s raptor. Make that the wreckage of Kara’s raptor with her corpsicle stuck in the seat. WTF?! Leoben’s all sorts of freaked out and instead of telling anyone, Starbuck takes her own dogtags, burns the body and returns to Galactica claiming her efforts led her to a dead end. She was about to tell Lee what happened but you know, a dead ex-wife story is probably enough for the guy to handle… maybe tomorrow.
The Cylon’s had a pretty great night, well if you take away the nuked earth revelation, the threat of Brother Cavil coming for them and the horrible flashbacks that Tryol, Anders, and Tory are had of their deaths 2,000 years ago.
Baltar and 6 also revealed that they found hundreds of skeletal remains buried with a different version of the Centurian heads which means that the 13th Colony, Earth was inhabited by Cylons – the new skin jobs like Tyrol, Tigh, Tory and Anders. Does that mean we’re all frakkin toasters?
Oh and we learned who the fifth and final cylon is… (more…)
Happy BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Day to all you mother frakkers out there! In case you’re wondering how the hell do I catch up or get a refresher on where we are so far with our Caprican/Earth friends, here’s some video to catch you up.
