    WGA Strike Signs

It’s the end of the second week of the WGA Strike and so much has happened. Shows are officially shutting down, actors are being sent away, the gays struck, pigs and rats were inflated around town, my pal Rae walked the lines, and some showrunners are crossing that picket line in our honor.

    WGA Strike Day 12
    Updates and Links

  • LOST geniuses Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse cross the picket line in order to put the finishing touches on the 8 episodes of Lost Season 4 that ABC refuses to NOT air. It’s for our own good, they promise.
  • Bionic Woman and Battlestar Galactica shut their robotic doors and possibly cost 1,000 BC jobs.
  • OMG, the Munchkins are walking the picket lines today. And no, I don’t mean the Dunkin Donuts Munchkins. Don’t follow that yellow brick road though, because it’s probably pee from a striking writer who didn’t make it to the porta-john in time.
  • Today is Impromptu Fans Strike Day! I hope Rae is planning on attending. That’s quite the vacation she’s taking… seeing the sites of a picket line. Better than the lines at Knottsberry Farms, I’m certain.
  • Damn it’s a big day for striking. Presidential hopeful, Senator John Edwards is planning on picketing today.
  • Don’t forget that 30 Rock and SNL go LIVE this weekend. I’ll be in NYC tomorrow but only for 9 hours, not enough time to make it to one of these. Curses.
  • *This post will be updated throughout the day, check back for the latest.

IT’s Friday morning and it’s damp, cold, and downright miserable here in Boston so I thought I’d chat about some news tidbits given that I didn’t see any television last night. Well, that’s not entirely true. When I got home at midnight I started watching SUPERNATURAL but couldn’t keep my eyes open. Being at work for 16 hours will do that to you.

Let’s start with some SUPERNATURAL news. Obviously there’s the whole Katie Cassidy tried to impersonate someone else to protect her “high profile” acting career after being a drunken mess and underage.

Then, did you hear about this? Apparently SUPERNATURAL is big with the Troops! Could it be all the violence, the hot girls, or the hot boys?

    According to TVGuide:

Jensen and Jared were honored on Veterans Day in Chicago, Army Master Sgt. Kevin Wise, First Special Forces out of Baghdad, presented the actors with congratulatory letters and Special Forces coins. It seems the CW series is one of the most popular — some say the No. 1 — DVD request from military members over there. According to a letter Sgt. Wise read, watching the demon-killing Winchester brothers helps soldiers forget the stress of war and reminds them of family and home.

I’ve never asked my brother if he’s into the show… he’s all GI Joe and all so this would be good to know. That’s pretty frakkin’ cool huh? Go Jensen and Jared. Though to be honest, I’m a little peeved at my Supernatural contacts for not spilling that scoop to us earlier.

So up in Vancouver where they film Supernatural, it appears that a number of shows are closing shop this week and telling their actors to get lost. BIONIC WOMAN and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA are ceasing to continue production. Battlestar needs no more barriers… seriously can we just get our final season already! Damn.

Project Runway’s 4th Season Premiere killed over at Bravo! It was the highest rated show on Bravo ever. It’s all because of Tim Gunn, let’s be honest folks. He makes it work. See how I snuck that in, “make it work”… ah, good times.

One of my summer faves, BIG BROTHER has started casting for Season 9 which CBS is not confirming will begin this winter (thanks to the strike). If you’re interested in joining that hamster cage in L.A. now’s the time to submit your application. The Chenbot Lives Even In The Winter!

And finally today, I’ll throw in a huge sigh of relief and excitement over the fact that TLC has asked the ever perky and punctual PAIGE DAVIS back as Host of Trading Spaces. To be honest, Spaces has not been the same since she’s been gone. If we could only find a way to get rid of Frank, it would be the perfect show again. Bring back Doug and Vern too! If anyone questions my love and infatuation with Page and the Trading Spaces of old, you can surely find a Boston Globe article with me in it as a super fan. God that’s gay.

Here’s a clip from tonight’s BIONIC WOMAN episode entitled “Trust Issues.”

Jaime and Antonio (Isaiah Washington) set out to foil an assassination plot, but Jaime has doubts about her partner’s intentions after overhearing a conversation he has with the would-be killer. Elsewhere, Jaime invites Tom to her home to meet Becca.

The WGA Strike is about to take away television but before that happens, there’s plenty for GMMR and I to talk about!

Dan and Kath are back for TV Podcast #16, and it’s all about the shows! It’s not about the strike, it’s just us talking about what we’ve loved and hated about television over the past couple weeks. I’m going to warn you now, it’s an hour long podcast. We haven’t talked in a while so sit back, relax, and listen to us in 2 sittings if that makes it easier. Thanks for sticking with us!

We tackle each day’s best and worst starting with Monday and working our way all the way to the lazy nights of Sunday. Chuck, HIMYM, Big Bang Theory, Prison Break, Heroes, House, Bones, Reaper, Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Supernatural, Moonlight, Friday Night Lights, Torchwood, The Amazing Race, Brothers & Sisters, Dexter, and more. Phew, who’s tired already?

While the delicious GOSSIP GIRL was the first new show to get a full ride, the other networks are starting to show some love to other newbies.

NBC’s CHUCK, BIONIC WOMAN, LIFE, and JOURNEYMAN received word that 3 more additional scripts were ordered. A full season pickup is almost a lock.

CBS has given 4 new scripts to CANE while their sister station has beemed 4 more up for ALIENS IN AMERICA.

Tonight is when your television wants to explode. It’s too much, Wednesday’s are just simply too much. Let me pose a question to all of you out there. How do you watch 3 shows at once? How do you possibly try to watch your returning faves and the newbies and have a life and a relationship and whatever when there’s so much quality television on these days.

The shows that in a perfect world could be watched are as follows: AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, GOSSIP GIRL, PRIVATE PRACTICE, BIONIC WOMAN, DIRTY SEXY MONEY and TOP CHEF. Next week it only gets worse when ABC adds my favorite PUSHING DAISIES but Top Chef drops after next week’s finale so there’s a free hour.

I’m dropping one or two shows from my schedule, have to… no way around it. This is when reality kicks in and says, “STOP WATCHING TELEVISION.” I’ll iTunes something to watch on the subway to and from work but I haven’t decided which 9pm show that will be. Bionic Woman will drop off iTunes in December (if its even added by NBC) so that could cause issues but I feel that is the one to go. When will the other networks jump on the ON DEMAND bandwagon like CBS has? That makes life easier as well. Come on now!

    Here’s what Ducky’s watching tonight:

America’s Next Top Model Cast Picture: Cycle 9
8pm – America’s Next Top Model has their Top 13 working a anti-smoking ad campaign which will surely be non-modely but I don’t care because I love the show.

    Gossip Girl on The CW
9pm – Gossip Girl’s first non-pilot episode is called “The Wild Brunch” and I can only hope it lives up to the hype.

Dirty Sexy Money, ABC Cast Photo
10pm – Dirty Sexy Money will finally introduce the world to the Darlings! I heart the Darlings!

    Also Premiering Tonight:
    Criminal Minds (CBS)n
    CSI:NY (CBS)
    Deal or no Deal (NBC)
    *New Show: BIONIC WOMAN (NBC)
    *New Show: LIFE (NBC)
    *New Show: PRIVATE PRACTICE (ABC)

9 out of 10 dentists agree… The TV Blogging community is a semi-incestuous circle of friends and frenemies so we all collaborated on a WHAT TO WATCH THIS FALL poll.

Below you’ll see what the concensus of TV Bloggers agree are the best new shows for the Fall 2007 season. The blogs that participated are: BuzzSugar, DaemonsTV, GiveMeMyRemote, GlowyBox, MikeyLikesTV, ScooterMcGavin, SillyPipeDreams, Seat42f, TapeWorthy, theTVaddict, TiFaux and TubeTalk. We rated shows on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being hideous and 5 jaw dropping great. If we had not seen a pilot yet, a simple N/A will be present.

As you can see, PUSHING DAISIES, CHUCK, DIRTY SEXY MONEY, and REAPER are the top choices and no surprises here, CAVEMEN is the show we least want to see.

    LEGEND
1 – Don’t waste your time unless you find ACCORDING TO JIM ‘funny’
2 – Not great but at least doesn’t offend me.
3 – Fun to watch if nothing else is on.
4 – Has potential. Worth a second look.
5 – Set your TiVo to Season’s Pass!
    N/A – Haven’t watched yet.

I would like to say though that I am way off in my rating for Private Practice. I gave it a higher rating out of spite as I was in my Grey’s funk and after seeing the first real episode, I’m pretty worried about Addy and Co. I’m revising my Private Practice to a 3.

Let me know if this helps you guys at all!

Jason Katims has joined the creative team at BIONIC WOMAN. Ausiello has the scoop, but in general, the Roswell creator and Friday Night Lights Executive Producer will be working his magic as a consulting producer for the possibly ailing NBC reboot.

I wonder if Isaiah Washington will grill Katims about Katherine Heigl’s mouth from back in the day.

Well, BIONIC WOMAN is turning into quite the buzzed about show. Good or bad, word of mouth is spreading and Jaime Sommers is sure to get eyes this fall. From Mae Whitman’s exit, the recasts, revamps, and hiring of Isaiah Washington, this show’s busy!

Now, TVGuide is reporting that there’s another shake up in the midst.

The Ausiello Report has learned that Bionic Woman executive producer Glen Morgan (of X-Files fame) has left the buzzed-about fall series. (Can you say “creative differences”? Good, because we’re not supposed to speculate.)

Says NBC: “Glen Morgan has helped create a great template for Bionic Woman but has decided to pursue other endeavors now. We wish him the best. The creative team of David Eick and Jason Smilovic continue as executive producers on Bionic Woman, and we are excited about the new series’ debut September 26.”

Sometimes the drama behind the scenes is better than that in front of the camera. Here’s to hoping this doesn’t mean BIONIC WOMAN is on a downward spiral.

    BIONIC WOMAN

Network: NBC (*reruns on Sci-Fi, date and time TBD)

Cast: Michelle Ryan as Jaime Sommers, Miguel Ferrer as Jonas Bledsoe, Molly Price as Ruth Treadwell, Chris Bowers as Will Anthros, Will Yun Lee as Jae Kim, Lucy Kate Hale as Becca Sommers; Katee Sackhoff as Sarah Corvus, and Mark Sheppard as Dr. Anthony Anthros.

    Preview:

    Premise:
Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teenage sister, Jaime Sommers (Michelle Ryan, “EastEnders”) didn’t think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death’s door, Jaime’s only hope for survival is a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price.

With a whole new existence and a debt to re-pay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good — while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it’s Jaime’s journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as the Bionic Woman in this new action-drama series.

Also starring are: Miguel Ferrer (“Crossing Jordan”) as Jonas Bledsoe, the man who employs Jaime’s boyfriend; Molly Price (“Third Watch”) as Ruth Treadwell, Jonas’ second-in-command; Chris Bowers (“Rescue Me”) as Will Anthros, Jaime’s boyfriend, who performs the operation; Will Yun Lee (“Witchblade”) as Jae Kim, the specialized operations leader; Lucy Kate Hale (“How I Met Your Mother”), as Jaime’s younger sister, Becca; and Mark Sheppard (“Battlestar Galatica”) as Dr. Anthony Anthros, Will’s father and the man who originated the bionic technology.

Ducky’s Thoughts: I was lucky enough to have seen the original pilot with Anne from Arrested Development as Jaime’s deaf sister so I can’t really compare it to this new pilot unless I get that before the season starts. I really liked the premise and while I loved the campy show from my youth, this is a good retooling ala Battlestar.

Michelle Ryan will be a huge star, no doubt about it. I love that Katee Sackhoff is such an integral part of the plot yet doesn’t have to be in every episode. She can come in and be a big crazy bitch, and she is – trust me, then disappear for a while.

I’m hoping that the pacing and some of the missed emotional beats will be worked on with the new pilot. Until then, fingers crossed.
