It’s been 7 weeks since our last podcast and 7 weeks since we last saw each other. You totally thought GMMR and Ducky had called it quits didn’t you? How dare you…
An extended gig in the Hamptons originally sidelined the podcast, then a horrible back injury kept this terrible TV twosome apart until now!
For our first big podcast of the Fall, we thought we’d make up for lost time with a huge 2 hour 10 minute carcast full of laughs, tears, a near death experience and even some New England leaf peeping!
Shows covered in this podcast:
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, BIG BANG THEORY, GOSSIP GIRL, HOUSE, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, THE BIGGEST LOSER, THE GOOD WIFE, V, GLEE, MODERN FAMILY, COUGAR TOWN, TOP CHEF, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, FLASH FORWARD, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, BONES, SUPERNATURAL, FRINGE, THE OFFICE, PARKS & RECREATION, 30 ROCK, COMMUNITY, GREY’S ANATOMY, PRIVATE PRACTICE, UGLY BETTY, DOLLHOUSE, SOUTHLAND, WHITE COLLAR, THE AMAZING RACE, SURVIVOR, DEXTER, MAD MEN and GREEK.
We hope you enjoy our ode to Fall TV so far this season and hope you’ll join in the conversation. Leave your thoughts on what we covered in the comments section of this post! We’d love to hear what you’ve got to say about the new Fall lineup.
The new Fall TV season is less than a week away and while I’ve been busy trying to watch all the new pilots I have to say that I’m not super excited about the new crop of shows. Bummer huh?
My podcasting partner in crime GMMR and I have been trying to schedule time to talk Fall TV and we hope to have all of the network podcasts up in the next week so hold tight. We’ve posted our thoughts on the new shows for The CW so please listen to that podcast to see what we love and/or hate.
In the meantime here are the shows I plan on watching this Fall. Shows in BLUE are what I plan on watching LIVE or DVR’d. Shows in PINK are ones that I will have to catch online or via iTunes.
MONDAY (click to enlarge) Monday’s have traditionally been a pretty busy night of TV viewing for me. However, this year it’s looking pretty open.
I’m annoyed that the power hour that started my night of television last year has been split up because BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was a partnership made in heaven. I’ll be interested to see what happens to BBT at such a late hour (and I hope to remember its on that late) and if I feel like the vibe is the same without it’s partner.
Another year, another chance to officially drop HEROES. Last year I decided to watch then within 5 episodes I dropped that lame duck for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. Going into Season 4, I’ve vowed to not even give it a single frame of consideration. Will. Not. Watch!
After a brief vacation from the kids on the Upper East Side, a summer marathon has renewed my love for all things GOSSIP GIRL. That doesn’t mean I won’t get annoyed with the repetitive storylines and the lame quick-wrap secondary storylines - it just means I’m excited for the show to return and kick some ass! Let’s not fuck it up Savage & Schwartz.
If you’re interested in ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE starring Jenna Elfman, Ashley Jensen and Grant Show you should watch. It’s a very traditional sitcom and paired with TWO AND A HALF MEN, I think it’s going to be a huge hit. I just don’t see myself watching it week to week. The pilot is cute, Elfman is adorable and the premise is fun. Mark my words, this is one of the biggest new shows in 09.
TUESDAY (click to enlarge)
Believe it or not, I’m only watching two shows on Tuesday’s but hell if that isn’t four frakkin’ hours of television.
I’m a total sucker for the weight loss and emotional meltdowns of THE BIGGEST LOSER so there’s no chance I’m not watching Bob and Jillian bust some fatties once again. Love that damn show.
Obviously you know I’m a huge SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE junkie so that’s a no brainer - or is it? I’ve been very vocal about how I don’t love the idea of bringing SYTYCD to the Fall. I love having it as my summer obsession because I have less shows to watch in the summertime which means more time for a Paso Doble or two. Pushing it on us in the middle of the onslaught of new and returning shows seems cruel and I hate that it’s going to take up two hours of my Fall TV schedule. There… I’ve said it.
I’m not gonna lie - from time to time I will probably watch The CW’s reboot of MELROSE PLACE. I actually enjoyed the pilot episode. It’s 100% better than I expected it to be and surely my partner Jon will want to pop in and out of that salacious complex.
*If you’re wondering about BETTER OFF TED, don’t worry its coming back after DwtS ends (which isn’t soon enough)!
**ABC’s reboot of V starts November 3rd at 8pm (shitty time slot for a show that is not suited for 8pm) and I’m super excited. I loved the original as a kid and I really enjoyed the pilot for the remake. Plus, it’s got Elizabeth Mitchell, Alan Tudyk and Scott Wolf!
WEDNESDAY (click to enlarge)
Wednesday night is really the only night I’m giving new shows a chance at making it into my live/dvr rotation.
SYTYCD has it’s results show at 8pm and that’s followed by GLEE (which we all know I flippin’ heart). It’s a great one-two punch and I’m really looking forward to Wednesday’s - thanks FOX!
Over on ABC, my favorite new comedy, MODERN FAMILY gets paired up with the pretty good COUGAR TOWN. Trust me when I tell you to tune in to MODERN FAMILY. The pilot has laugh out loud funny jokes throughout and one of the best, THE BEST, things I’ve ever seen in the final few minutes. COUGAR TOWN is fun, a little dirty and honestly who doesn’t love having Courtney Cox, Busy Phillips and Josh Hopkins back on their screens?
EASTWICK is not as bad as you think it might be. The hour grew on me as it progressed and I’m willing to give it a couple weeks which is more than I can say for many of the new shows this Fall.
Another carcast, another rainstorm and another podcast over an hour! This week Kath and Dan kick off the podcast talking about TOP CHEF LAS VEGAS. From foodies to fangbangers, its off to Bon Temps and a little TRUE BLOOD.
BIG BROTHER 11 kicked another psychotic houseguest out while we dodged planes landing on the highway.
We talked the NURSE JACKIE finale and MAD MEN’s latest episode before catching up on old shows. From GOSSIP GIRL to DOLLHOUSE to SUPERNATURAL we talk the good, bad and tragic about the shows we’re catching up on this summer.
It’s our last podcast before our Fall TV Previews so do not miss out on all the summer fun.
If you’re not a fan of our SYTYCD podcasts, then you’re in luck! This week we’re back with a regular TV Talk Podcast with GMMR and Ducky. We decided to dedicate a lot of time to our other favorite summer obsession, TRUE BLOOD. We talk all things vamptastic and if you’re a fan of the show we’ve got questions we need answers to so pay attention and leave comments.
Next up is BIG BROTHER 11. After that, we talk a little bit about the amazing return of TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH and its shocking 5 night mini-series.
Last, we talk about all things COMIC-CON 2009. What panels we missed (CHUCK, BIG BANG THEORY, GLEE, LOST, DOLLHOUSE, SUPERNATURAL and more), which shows had the most impressive online presence and all the news/gossip that came out of the con.
FOX just released their Fall 2009 premiere dates and fans of GLEE and SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE should rejoice because their first on the list! I still cannot believe that BONES and FRINGE are on the super crowded Thursday night AND that FRINGE is up against my SUPERNATURAL boys. Bullshit!

After last year’s Comic-Con I was worn out, my flight to and from San Diego had been canceled and rescheduled, I was ready to slap anyone wearing a costume and I may or may not have made a commitment then and there to not attend this year. My partner in crime, Kath from Give Me My Remote felt the same way and so we went about our year not planning on returning to San Diego for 2009.
When I was laid off, the decision seemed like perfection. I would have less money for one and if I got a new job, chances were it would be closer to the Con and I wouldn’t have the time off available to me that I’ve had in the past. Obvious, right?
Flash-forward to the middle of July and I start regretting my decision. I’m still unemployed and with the Press Pass and a probable free flight I started wondering why the frak I didn’t go. The answer was simple though, I was competing in my first triathlon and that was Comic-Con weekend. It was a distraction for the actual weekend but not the time leading up to and during the start of SDCC09.
Once all of my blogger friends, PR folks from the networks and shows started plotting their schedules, the interviews, the press rooms, etc. I really started to have mini-panic attacks that I would be missing out on all the fun and yes, even the chaos.
Here are the things I’ll have missed most about not having been at Comic-Con this past weekend:
My friends/comrades in all things Con (esp. Rae, Amrie, Holly, Winson, Susan, Jen G. and my girl Moira)
Being in a hotel for 5 nights but only for a couple hours of sleeping and lots of laughing our asses off.
Our annual trip to Bucca!
The Press Rooms (its always fun to have some alone time with my fave TV stars/writers/creators)
People watching, esp. seeing all the people in costumes!
Making fun of people!
Eating only one not-so-square meal a day
Jockeying for positions (though I don’t miss that at the same time)
Walking the floor or rather hanging out atop the floor in the WB lounge.
The GLEE panel and my chance to rape Cory Monteith’s face!
Seeing David Tennant at the Doctor Who panel. The one year I don’t go his ass shows up…
The Torchwood panel
The True Blood panel (after last years snore fest, I hear this year was much better)
The Supernatural panel and meeting Mischa Collins (I will always regret that one)
The Big Bang Theory gang (last year they were so fun both in press and panel)
Zachary Quinto (in any shape/form)
The Nightmare on Elm Street panel
The Prisoner redux panel
Jeffster performance and the Chuck panel (though I bet GMMR is more upset than I - seeing how she got a shout out and all)
Cheese Sticks
The New Moon panel (yes, I said it)
Waiting in that ridonk Starbucks line
The Middleman panel (and the hotness that is Matt Kesslar)
The Caprica panel
The final Lost panel
Obviously the list could go on for days but off the top of my head these are the things that annoyed me while I was at home all weekend. There are more online friends and PR people that I didn’t give a shout out to but I would have loved to hang with all of you as well and maybe next year we’ll be back in full swing! SDCC2010 or Bust!
We’re back and talking TV. We’re breaking down the past TV week for you and covering a lot of the week’s best shows including: Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, Gossip Girl, Castle, Idol, Better Off Ted, Damages, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, 30 Rock, Dollhouse, Friday Night Lights, Party Down, The Amazing Race, Supernatural, Kings, Brothers & Sisters, My Boys, Greek and much more!
And it wouldn’t be a TV Talk Podcast without Two Idiots Talk Lost.
Oh, if you’re wondering where the frak the Battlestar Galactica Finale talk is, hold tight. We posted a special BSG Series Finale Podcast that will be posted shortly.
Housekeeping…
We received a ton of emails from listeners saying they liked the new chapter markers we made available for while last week. Ducky’s back from vacation which means it’s time for another TV Talk Podcast! We have almost 3 weeks to cover so make yourself some tea, get a snack and settle in for the soothing cackles and rants we’re about to sling your way.
We start as we always do, Monday nights. BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER continues to be the best damn double bill on television. CHUCK goes to the suburbs, tests his best friendship with Morgan and breaks up with Sarah, say what? HEROES hits rock bottom and Matt Dallas shows his rock hard… abs!
THE BIGGEST LOSER 7 pisses Ducky off and shockingly Kath watched! PRIVILEGED aired what may have been it’s series finale and is to be continued but when considering The CW renewed a bunch of shows already. AMERICAN IDOL continues to rock on while randomly REAPER returns.
TOP CHEF has a shocking finale while Kath gets a shocker as she realizes she missed DAMAGES last week mid-recap.
SURVIVOR’s getting ugly, Sweeps are in March, 30 ROCK gets political, AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW kills it and I might kill Kath for something she says about BURN NOTICE.
Over on Friday’s there’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA to discuss before breezing through Sunday’s THE AMAZING RACE because really you just want to listen to…
TWO IDIOTS TALK LOST!
NEWS: We have a permanent home for the podcast, a new site! Visit: TheTVTalkPodcast.com
DOLLHOUSE was obviously a show that many of us were dying for ever since it was announced. Being a huge Joss Whedon fan, I thought how could reteaming with Eliza Dushku and Amy Acker go wrong especially when Helo from Battlestar is involved?
Well, to no one’s bigger surprise than my own, three episodes in and I’m already over the show.
The general idea is this… The Dushku is in way over her head, the Dollhouse/Alpha storyline is way too slow and I miss the typical Joss-like witty banter and charm normally present in a Whedon joint to keep my attention.
The weekly stories are boring and watching Echo become different people each week sounded like a good idea but now looking back on it, it’s super narcissistic on both Whedon and Dushku’s parts.
The key is Alpha! I don’t know if I want more front-loading of Alpha because I’m pretty sure the show will be canceled before it plays out or because that’s where the real show lies and they’re not giving it to us when they should. Plus, add in the rumor that Wash himself, Alan Tudyk, may be playing Alpha and I want him now, not in the last episode of the season as they’re reporting.
Don’t even get me started on the serious mis-casting for the role of Topher. Fran Kranz is not enjoyable on any level. He’s a lame excuse for a role that was almost tailor made for someone like Whedon alum Tom Lenk.
If I’m being honest here, I don’t know if I can watch the show any longer and that truly saddens me.
Dollhouse stars Eliza Dushku as a living doll, a woman that has given up 5 years of her life to become a blank slate, a vessel where this company can imprint her with any identity, memory and skill set a client wants/needs.
From companion to assassin, these dolls (both male and female) become the ultimate human for the right price. Much like Cinderella though, when the clock strikes, it’s time for these dolls to return back to the dollhouse where their memories of their mission are downloaded and wiped. The dolls live in a surreality where massages, workouts, and lots of sleep await them until their next implant/mission then it begins all over again.
I don’t want to give away too much from tonight’s premiere but I wanted to at least give you my opinion on the show so here goes. I didn’t fall out of my seat in awe, drooling over how much I loved it. Now that doesn’t mean that I didn’t like the shit out of Dollhouse. I did.
Remember when FRINGE premiered and Kath and I chatted on the TV Talk Podcast about how it was good but didn’t knock our socks off? It’s the same scenario.
Joss Whedon, much like J.J. Abrams, has built this empire on being a cult creator and we as fans expect the world, the moon and a miracle with each new show. I fully admit that these expectations are what taints my immediate obsession with both Fringe and now Dollhouse. It’s me, it’s not you Joss.
The Dushku does a pretty good job in the role of Echo (hate hate hate that name) but at times I feel there are limitations to her depth and ability to carry some of the heavier more emotional scenes. Should I be making a judgment of her character range based on a single episode, probably not but I did… what can ya do? Now, I love me some Dushku so I’m willing to give her time to build, develop and breathe in Echo’s skin but given the amount of involvement both she and Joss had in creating the series and role, I expected more. (more…)
We hope everyone got some great TV goodies over the holidays because we sure did. Kath and I talk about what TV Boyfriends were under their trees, what TV presents they got and even fill you in on some of the things keeping them apart for the last 6 weeks.
There’s news to be had, Christmas CHUCK to rehash, the demise of PUSHING DAISIES to cry about, PRIVILEGED to complain about, GOSSIP GIRL to gossip about and did I mention that we’ve both seen the first two hours of LOST Season 5! Sorry, had to throw that in just be to bitchy…
You asked what we thought of all the new and returning shows that will fill our winter and spring with good cheer and discontent and we’ve answered.
We’ve got screeners galore to chit-chat about… DAMAGES, THE CLOSER, UNITED STATES OF TARA, TRUST ME, 24 and more. We even touch on some shows that don’t have air dates like CUPID and BETTER OFF TED.
The TV Talk Podcast with GMMR and Ducky finally tackles more of your listener and reader questions!
First up we tackle the mid-season shows we’re looking forward to (including returning faves): Dollhouse, Cupid, Castle, Leverage, Truth in Advertising, Lost, 24, Battlestar Galactica, Damages, Nip/Tuck.
Don’t forget that some of our favorite summer shows finish off their runs as well… we’re talking The Closer, Burn Notice and My Boys to name a few.
Want to know the fate of Scrubs and The CW’s Reaper and if/when they’ll return? We’ve got the scoop.
What about the DirecTV/NBC split of the amazing Friday Night Lights - are we watching and if so what do we think? First of all, don’t question our loyalty to the Dillon Panthers; Second, just listen.
How did our favorite shows hold up during November sweeps? We’ll cover everything from Heroes to Chuck, Supernatural to The Office so get ready for our picks of the best and worst of fall sweeps, stunts and special guests.
This week Pushing Daisies was canceled - Kath and I give our thoughts. RIP!
So what else could we possibly talk about? Is scaredy-cat Kath watching HBO’s True Blood? What’s the deal with the Arrested Development movie? Why is Tricia Helfer the go-to-gal for guest starring roles and oh sweet lord, why does Britney’s have another reality show?
Last but not least we have another game for you all to play along with at home! This episode we’re breaking hearts and creating our most interesting ’ship!
Oh and you’ll never believe this but in a TV Talk first, we talk about One Tree Hill… WTF?
Even though DOLLHOUSE doesn’t premiere until sometime in 2009 the rumor mill and online fan base have kept the series on the forefront of my Joss Whedon loving mind lately.
