GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS Winners: TV

The 65th Annual GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS winners were announced tonight during a hideous hour long “news special” instead of the normal glitz and glam. Our hosts? The impossibly fake and totally douchey Billy Bush (seriously what was with his hair) and Nancy O’Dell. You couldn’t have picked two worse and unqualified talking heads to host this borefest. Their “banter” over the merits of winners or losers was insipid at best and NBC could have done themselves a favor by just doing a minute long rundown of the winners between episodes of American Gladiators.

Regardless, the once prestigious crystal ball to the Oscars and Emmy’s was squashed thanks to the WGA Strike so bully to them. Chalk one up for the little guys (in the industry’s eyes, not mine. The writers are gods to me)!

And if I have to hear about how sad it was that the nominees didn’t get their moment in the spotlight (as if their bloated paychecks aren’t enough gratification considering its not like they’re curing AIDS or stopping the war in Iraq) I’m going to rip my eyelids off. Hollywood’s back-patting is a little much even on their worst day so really we could do without the fanfare and idolatry for a bit if it means giving the writers their due. Just remember everyone, without the writer’s these “great” actors would have nothing to do. Believe me, left to their own devices many of these folks would be dribbling baffoons so give the writer’s their fair share!

Congratulations to MAD MEN, one of the summer’s most compelling and unique dramas, and JON HAMM for their well deserved wins. GLENN CLOSE, hells yes she rocked my socks with Damages. Summer is sweeping! EXTRAS? Kudos Ricky Gervais and crew. Same goes for TINA FEY she totally nails Liz Lemon week in and week out.

I’m not going to lie, I’m sad that Pushing Daisies didn’t win and the same tears are shed for my man Lee Pace. Next year.

Before I sign off, could Supporting Roles get screwed more? I hate that they are all limped together (comedies, dramas, tv movies, miniseries) because you cannot compare the work of someone in Boston Legal with some sweeping historical miniseries, it just doesn’t gel.

I can post this now as it’s officially December 26th. The Ghost of Christmas Past, aka a couple minutes ago has done a Ducky well. The TV box set was represented in the form of Bones, Extras, The Comeback and Season 1 of Battlestar Galactica which I didn’t have. I have 2.0 and 2.5 but for some reason never owned 1 until today. I got a couple Wii games and now my arm hurts from those damn Raving Rabbits, I’ve yet to even start on the Sonic/Super Mario Olympics. Some books, some clothes, a blender, a Jonathan Adler statue, a painting from this great Boston artist, a ton of gift cards, a Dwight bobblehead, and best of all the High School Musical 2 postcard and poster book!

Ducky with Dwight Bobblehead

I got a couple duplicate presents and those will be traded in and combined with my plethora of gift cards to make more and more presents for me to enjoy in the coming days.

Sorry I haven’t posted much, I was out of town from Friday until Xmas Eve and then it was Christmas Zone time and to be honest, I barely even looked at my computer today. I watched Christmas Story a good 3 times all the way through and then popped in and out a number of other times. It’s still an incredibly brilliant film and it makes my heart sing with laughter no matter how many times I watch it. I would say that in total I’ve probably seen the film about 100 times in my lifetime and I’m ready for another 100.

I hope you all had a great holiday, that you’ve gorged yourselves, that you’ve received all the presents you wanted, and that you’re ready for the New Year. You’re all the best, Happy Holidays!

Ricky Gervais on EXTRAS

David Brent, er Andy Millman will have his final send off in time for the holidays! EXTRAS will have it’s “Extra Special Series Finale” December 16th on HBO.

To mark the occassion, Andy and Maggie will be having a laugh with Clive Owen, Doctor Who himself David Tennant, the Kitchen Nightmare himself Gordon Ramsey, and bathroom sex addict George Michael among others!

Let the Holidays be Gay and Merry!

I almost forgot the Emmy nominations were this morning. Silly me. There are some fun additions to this years Emmy list and sadly there are still a few head scratching oldies thrown in for good measure.

Extras

GMMR alerted us first, but damnit I’m letting people know too because last year Extras was one of my favorite things about television. From the brilliant minds behind the origina OFFICE we get an inside peek at the boring lives of movie extras. It’s just as funny, sad, pathetic, and brilliant as the British Office was.

Catch the Season 2 Premiere on iTunes for FREE! It’s not under the tv section though, its under the podcast sections. Here is the direct link.

Enjoy and get ready for some Harry Potter on Extras in the near future. Extras premieres Sunday January 14th at 10pm on HBO.
