I don’t know if I should be afraid to say it or not but I’m kinda excited to watch ABC’s new sitcom COUGAR TOWN starring Courtney Cox and Busy Phillips (yes, Kim Kelley is back on television) not to mention the adorable Josh Hopkins and FELICITY’s Ian Gomez.

COUGAR TOWN Preview:

“And you are hot as balls!” You gotta love that Cox can pull off a balls line… see what I did there?!

COUGAR TOWN Synopsis:
Can a woman of a certain age be a mom, a successful career woman and still be on the prowl? Jules Cobb (Courteney Cox) is about to give it a try.

In a small Florida town, the center of high society is the Cougars high school football team… which is wildly appropriate since this town is the natural habitat for over-tanned, under-dressed divorcées prowling for younger men. Jules desperately doesn’t want to be one of them, but with an ugly divorce behind her and 40 staring right back at her, she’s longing for a little more action in her life. The available men her own age, like her silver fox of a neighbor, Grayson Ellis, only seem interested in dating barely legal hotties — which is awkward considering he’s also her teenage son Tad’s therapist. Egged on by her very married and very irreverent best friend Elle and her determined assistant Laurie, Jules reluctantly dips her toe back into the dating pool. To her surprise, she hits it off with a nice young guy named Bobby — emphasis on the young — and discovers this gal still has the goods.

Co-executive produced by Courteney Cox and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Cougar Town is the single-camera comedy that dares to tell the truth about dating after divorce. Juggling a teenage son with her thriving career and budding love life isn’t easy, but before you know it, Jules will have you cheering, “Go Cougars!”

The series is from ABC Studios. Bill Lawrence is executive producer/writer/director, Kevin Biegel is writer/co-executive producer, and Courteney Cox and David Arquette are executive producers.

ABC announced their Fall 2009 TV Lineup this morning and they’ve got a pretty strong slate for this coming season. While I’m still floored people watch Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor, I’m even more amazed that Nathan Fillion’s CASTLE made it another season. I’m super excited to see BETTER OFF TED get some more love and can’t wait for newbies like COUGAR TOWN, EASTWICK and FLASH FORWARD! My question is: Where’s the remake of V? Is that pushed to midseason?

FOX-PAST LIFE

The award for the FOX show with the most generic looking cast goes to PAST LIFE! While at first glance this might seem like some procedural/MENTALIST rip-off take a look at the creative team behind the show. FNL vet David Hudgins created the show and it also stars THE WEST WING’s Richard Shiff. Can’t be that bad, right?

PAST LIFE premieres winter 2010 on Tuesday’s at 9pm.

PAST LIFE Preview:

PAST LIFE Synopsis:
Have you ever experienced déjà vu or met someone you thought seemed familiar? Do you believe in karma, fate or love at first sight?

From writer David Hudgins (“Friday Night Lights”), and inspired by the book “The Reincarnationist” by M.J. Rose, comes PAST LIFE, a new drama series about an unlikely pair of past-life detectives who investigate whether what is happening to you today is the result of who you were before.

DR. KATE MCGINN (Kelli Giddish, “All My Children”) is not your typical psychologist. Confident, outspoken and highly educated, she works at The Talmadge Center for Behavioral Health in New York City, a world-renowned institute dedicated to the study of the science of the soul. After experiencing a past-life regression in her 20s, Kate became a believer in reincarnation. Using regression therapy and her natural gift for reading people, Kate helps solve the mysteries of her troubled clients who suffer from present-day problems caused by past-life traumas. She believes there are levels of consciousness and explanations for human behavior that science can’t begin to explain. Accustomed to skeptics, but not bothered by them, Kate is an unapologetic believer and a force of nature who marches to the beat of her own drummer.

Her partner, PRICE WHATLEY (Nicholas Bishop, “Home and Away”), is a different story. A former NYPD homicide detective, pragmatic and cynical, Price is a damaged soul who constantly battles grief and guilt over the accidental death of his wife. Price feels that Kate, though not certifiable, certainly operates on the fringes of science. It’s a volatile relationship, but with Price’s solid detective skills, and Kate’s penchant for out-of-the-box thinking, together they make a formidable, if somewhat dysfunctional, team.

A fast-paced emotional thrill ride, each episode finds Price and Kate working with their colleagues to unravel a new mystery involving the past-lives of their clients. DR. MALACHI TALMADGE (Richard Schiff, “The West Wing”) is Kate’s mentor and the center’s namesake, an avuncular but gruff elder statesman who is a legend in the field of cognitive research. DR. RISHI KARNA (Ravi Patel, “Scrubs”) is the rookie of the group, a baby-faced therapist from Calcutta who loves bad American TV, Cuban jazz and driving everyone crazy.

Produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television, PAST LIFE is executive-produced by David Hudgins and Lou Pitt. Hudgins also serves as writer. Deran Sarafian (HOUSE, “Lost”) directed the pilot.

Another new FOX comedy is the Tyler Labine fronted SONS OF TUSCON. For fans of REAPER, this means bad things for The CW’s devilish comedy but look at it this way, the dude from INVASION is still working.

SONS OF TUSCON premieres Winter 2010 and airs at 8:30pm on Sundays (after CLEVELAND’s initial run).

SONS OF TUSCON Preview:

SONS OF TUSCON Synopsis:
In the tradition of “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The Bernie Mac Show,” SONS OF TUCSON is a family comedy about three brothers who hire a charming, wayward schemer to stand in as their father when their real one goes to prison.

What begins as a business relationship evolves into something more complex and compelling: a family unlike any we’ve ever seen.

The three brothers find their dad-for-hire, RON SNUFFKIN (Tyler Labine, “Reaper”), at the local sporting good store. Ron will be forced to draw on a wide array of skills and a vast bag of tricks as he steps into the patriarch role to take care of the boys of the Gunderson family. ROBBY GUNDERSON (Davis Cleveland, “How I Met Your Mother”), 8, is a loose cannon who doesn’t take garbage from anyone; GARY GUNDERSON (Frank Dolce, “Doubt”), 11, is a bright and street-savvy leader who is every bit the con man his father is; and BRANDON GUNDERSON (Troy Gentile, “Entourage”), 13, is a gentle free spirit who goes along for the ride. MAGGIE MORALES (Natalie Martinez, “Saints & Sinners”), Robby’s second-grade teacher and the object of Ron’s affection, might just be the only stable figure in the lives of this quirky quartet.

While SONS OF TUCSON is grounded in the day-to-day challenges of a single-parent home, nothing in the Gunderson household is quite what it seems. An ongoing chess match between Ron and the boys will keep both parties on their toes, as neither side can afford to give up too much power or independence.

SONS OF TUCSON is directed by three-time Emmy Award-winner Todd Holland (“Malcolm in the Middle,” “The Larry Sanders Show”) and produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Justin Berfield, Jason Felts, Harvey Myman and Todd Holland serve as executive producers. Tommy Dewey and Greg Bratman wrote the pilot.

The only show FOX has already picked up for 2 seasons is the FAMILY GUY spin-off THE CLEVELAND SHOW. Is this THE JEFFERSONS to Guy’s ALL IN THE FAMILY? I’m kinda psyched to see Cleveland and his wife get their own show… they’re hilarious!

THE CLEVELAND SHOW premieres Fall 2009 and will air Sunday’s at 8:30pm after THE SIMPSONS and before FAMILY GUY.

THE CLEVELAND SHOW Preview:

THE CLEVELAND SHOW Synopsis:
THE CLEVELAND SHOW is a new animated series that follows everyone’s favorite soft-spoken neighbor, CLEVELAND BROWN (Mike Henry), to his hometown in Virginia as he settles down with his high school sweetheart, her unruly kids and his own 14-year-old son, CLEVELAND JR. (Kevin Michael Richardson).

Many years ago, Cleveland was a high school student madly in love with a beautiful girl named DONNA (Sanaa Lathan). Much to his dismay, his love went unrequited, and Donna wound up marrying another man. Cleveland once told Donna he would always love her, and if this man ever done her wrong, he’d be there when she called. Well, this man done her wrong.

Donna’s husband ran off, leaving Donna with a teenage daughter and a young son. Now she’s open to Cleveland and has offered him another chance at love. Unattached after the Loretta-Quagmire debacle and true to his word, Cleveland joyously reunites with Donna, and he and Cleveland Jr. move to Virginia to join their new family.

Once in Virginia, there are a few surprises in store for Cleveland, including ROBERTA (Reagan Gomez-Preston), a rebellious new stepdaughter; RALLO (Henry), his new 5-year-old stepson who loves the ladies; and a collection of neighbors that includes a loudmouth redneck, LESTER (Richardson); a hipster wanna-be, HOLT (guest voice Jason Sudeikis); and a religious pair of talking bears, TIM (Seth MacFarlane) and his wife ARIANNA (guest voice Arianna Huffington).

THE CLEVELAND SHOW is a 20th Century Fox Television production. Seth MacFarlane, Rich Appel and Mike Henry are executive producers and co-creators of the series.

FOX\'s New Comedy BROTHERS

FOX’s new half hour family comedy BROTHERS starring Michael Strahan and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell.

BROTHERS premeires Fall 2009 and will air Friday’s at 8pm before TIL DEATH.

BROTHERS Preview:

BROTHERS Synopsis:
BROTHERS Starring Michael Strahan (“FOX NFL Sunday”) and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell (“Ed,” “Veronica’s Closet”), BROTHERS is a new half-hour comedy about a former NFL hot shot who learns that even though you can always go home again, the trip back might be tougher than you think.

MIKE TRAINOR (Strahan) seemingly has it all – he’s a good-looking, wealthy and recently retired NFL player living the high-life in New York City, but he’s about to get sidelined. When Mike gets a phone call from his MOM (CCH Pounder, “The Shield”) who orders him home to Houston, he quickly realizes the more his life has changed, the more his family has stayed the same.

His brother CHILL (Daryl “Chill” Mitchell), whose life was altered drastically after a car accident left him in a wheelchair, is struggling to keep his restaurant afloat with the help of his loudmouth associate, ROSCOE (Colton Dunn, “MADtv”). The dynamics between Mike and Chill are the same as when they were kids, and their sibling rivalry hasn’t lessened with age. If they can stop their bickering, put aside their differences and learn to be teammates, the brothers might just turn out to be each other’s biggest asset.

Wedged between Mike and Chill are their parents. Their father, whom everyone refers to as COACH (Carl Weathers, “Rocky”), is the local high school football coach and the conservative, opinionated alpha male of his clan. Coach thinks he runs the show, but really it’s Mom who calls the shots. Saucy, stern and a schemer, she is the mastermind of the family. And when she learns that Mike’s business manager took off with all his money, she orchestrates a plan to keep Mike in Houston, save Chill’s restaurant and bring the family back together under one roof again – all without anyone realizing what she’s up to.

Mom’s plan helps Mike realize that his family – however dysfunctional they may be – is the only family he’s got. And although he may not have a penny to his name, as long as he’s surrounded by people who love him, he’ll always be a rich man.

BROTHERS is created by Don Reo and produced by Tantamount Studios and Impact Zone Productions, Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Mitch Hurwitz and Don Reo serve as executive producers. Ted Wass directed the pilot written by Don Reo.

Yesterday, FOX announced their Fall 2009/Midseason 2010 lineup and while I’m super excited to see more SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and FRINGE I don’t like their strategy. SYTYCD is my show, you know I love it more than anything but really do I need it in the Fall? I know their looking for their Fall IDOL but I’m not gonna have time to watch these dancers twice a week once all of my regularly scheduled primetime shows are in full swing. That’s annoying. So is moving FRINGE to Thursday’s against SUPERNATURAL (Grey’s, CSI, The Office and 3 Rock)… seriously? Not pleased.

This morning NBC announced the majority of their Fall 2009 TV Lineup and while we’re still waiting on the fate of CHUCK, there are a ton of returning and new shows to occupy our minds.

While I’m on pins and needles for CHUCK (fate will be determined on May 19th), I’m pretty psyched for the 3rd incarnation of PARENTHOOD (sans Keanu but with Peter Krause!!!) and DAY ONE not the mention THE SOUP’s Joel McHale in COMMUNITY!

Returning Shows: THE OFFICE, 30 ROCK, THE BIGGEST LOSER, CELEBRITY APPRENTICE, LAW & ORDER: SVU, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, HEROES, SOUTHLAND, PARKS AND RECREATION, SNL: THURSDAY UPDATE and JAY LENO’S 10pm crapfest.

Returning Shows Still on the Bubble: CHUCK, LAW & ORDER, MEDIUM, MY NAME IS EARL

New Comedies:
100 QUESTIONS
Emmy winner James Burrows (“Will & Grace,” “Friends”) directs “100 Questions,” a new comedy series written and executive-produced by Christopher Moynihan (“For Your Consideration”) that provides hilarious answers to 100 questions about love. Charlotte Payne (Sophie Winkleman, “Peep Show”) is looking for love and has rejected multiple marriage proposals — but she has yet to meet Mr. Right. When she joins a popular online dating site, she gets a little help from her dating counselor Ravi (Amir Talai, “The Ex List”) – who requires her to take a 100-question compatibility test. The questions aren’t easy for Charlotte to answer, and each one requires her to recount a poignant and humorous time in her life with friends Leslie (Elizabeth Ho, “Women’s Murder Club”), Jill (Joy Suprano, NBC’s “Law & Order”), Mike (Christopher Moynihan “For Your Consideration”) and Wayne (David Walton “Quarterlife”). The test becomes a journey of self-discovery for Charlotte who begins to realize what she truly wants in a relationship. Ron West (“Psych”), Kelly Kulchak (“Psych”) and Michelle Nader (“King of Queens”) join Moynihan as executive producers.

COMMUNITY
From Emmy Award-winning directors Joe and Anthony Russo (“Arrested Development”) comes “Community,” a smart comedy series about higher education — and lower expectations. The student body at Greendale Community College is made up of high-school losers, newly divorced housewives, and old people who want to keep their minds active. Within these not-so-hallowed halls, “Community” focuses on a band of misfits, at the center of which is a fast-talkin’ lawyer whose degree has been revoked (Joel McHale, “The Soup”), who form a study group and end up learning a lot more about themselves than they do about their course work. In addition to McHale, the series also stars: Gillian Jacobs (“The Book of Daniel”); Yvette Nicole Brown (“Rules of Engagement”); Danny Pudi (“Greek”); Alison Brie (“Mad Men”); and comedy legend Chevy Chase (“Saturday Night Live”). “Community” is a Krasnoff Foster Entertainment, Harmonious Claptrap and Russo Brothers production in association with Sony Pictures Television and Universal Media Studios. Russ Krasnoff (“The Soloist”), Dan Harmon (“The Sarah Silverman Program”), Joe Russo (“Arrested Development”), Anthony Russo (“Arrested Development”) and Gary Foster (“The Soloist”) serve as executive producers. Joe and Anthony Russo directed the pilot that was written by Dan Harmon.

New Dramas:
DAY ONE
From executive producer/writer Jesse Alexander (“Heroes,” “Lost,” “Alias”) and director Alex Graves (“Fringe,” “Journeyman”), “Day One” tells the story of life on earth following a global catastrophe that has devastated the world’s infrastructures. Beginning with the immediate aftermath of the cataclysmic event, an eclectic band of survivors — played by Adam Campbell (“Date Movie”), Catherine Dent (“The Shield”), Julie Gonzalo (“Eli Stone”), David Lyons (“ER”), Derek Mio (“Greek”), Carly Pope (“24″), Thekla Reuten (“Sleeper Cell”) and Addison Timlin (“Cashmere Mafia”) — strives to rebuild society as they unravel the mysteries of what happened and face their uncertain future. The group, all residents of one apartment building in suburban Van Nuys, Calif., embarks on a quest for survival and discovers that hope is found in small victories — and heroes are born every day. “Day One” is a Universal Media Studios production.

  • Ducky’s Ever Changing Comic-Con Schedule

For those of you not going to COMIC-CON this year, consider yourselves lucky because if you knew the anxiety and rage the scheduling has caused me and my fellow TV Bloggers, you’d be fine just staying home. There are so many TV panels this year and so many things I want to do that either overlap each other or run too close to ever hope of getting in, so trying to decide what to see is like Sophie’s Choice up in this place.

Do you see how agonizing it is to try and plan your days? Saturday is seriously OOC and I’m sure many decision will change in the spur of the moment. What you don’t see on here are the parties we’re RSVP’d for and the Press Rooms we’re hoping to do as well. Add press rooms for most shows on Saturday and you’d have to have 3 Buffy Bots to help you cover it all.

Regardless, I’ll be there with many blogger friends and we’ll be podcasting every day and recording as many panels as possible to post here on Ducky Does TV so stay tuned!

We said we’d be back with another TV Talk Podcast in a week but it took almost a week and a half, I think you survived just fine. GMMR was at the Upfront presentations so there’s plenty to talk about including her celebrity sightings, stalkings, and dancing partners. We’ll even talk about Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE and J.J. Abrams FRINGE starring GMMR’s mega crush Josh Jackson. So You Think You Can Dance might get a couple minutes or five along with her time with The Office and Tina Fey!

Back to your regularly scheduled podcast, we head right into GOSSIP GIRL, AMERICAN IDOL, THE OFFICE, GREY’S, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and more. Plus, it’s the return of TWO IDIOTS TALK LOST (*we talk about the finale being this week but listener Michael pointed out that it’s not until May 29th – phew!) where we rehash the first hour of the three hour Season 4 finale, once again proving that even idiots can enjoy Lost. And as a bonus feature, we have a special guest to help us talk about the Season 3 finale of The CW’s SUPERNATURAL.

Sit back and relax because this Podcast almost hits 90 minutes. You read that right, 90 minutes of babbling, giggling, bitching, and TV Talk!

Ned and Chuck Header from Pushing Daisies

Alright TV fans, this is what I’ve been waiting for all summer, today is the day that I hope the world falls in love with a boy named Ned and a girl named Chuck. I’m talking about the premiere of ABC’s forensic fairytale PUSHING DAISES at 8pm.

Tonight you’ll be introduced to a world so visually stimulating you’ll feel like you’re eyes just had an orgasm. You’ll hear narration and dialogue that will make you wish you were a poet and you’ll be introduced to the coolest pie shop this side of The Double R from Twin Peaks.

I cannot emphasize how strongly I love this show and how much I want all of you to watch tonight’s “Pie-lette” episode. I’ve seen it almost 10 times now and still find little nuances that I missed with each of my previous obsessive viewings.

Kathie from GiveMeMyRemote and I started a Pushing Daisies fansite called ThePieMaker.com to help promote the show we’ve absolutely fallen head over heels for in hopes of bringing all of our readers into the magical world of Pushing Daises.

We’ve been lucky enough to get the endorsement of not only the series creator and writer Bryan Fuller (Wonderfalls, Heroes, Dead Like Me) but of the cast as well. We’ve had access to the Red Carpet for the New York Premiere of Pushing Daisies, the exclusive first look at Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) in character, a Pushing Daisies Set Visit, and an advance screening of Episode 1.02 “Dummy”.

To get everyone excited about the Premiere of Pushing Daisies, ThePieMaker.com is giving away official Pushing Daises crew shirts and an autographed script of the “Pie-lette.” While I want you to visit my site, I have to tell you that ThePieMaker.com will be the ultimate site for everything related to the show and we hope you’ll not only watch tonight but come chat about it as well.

After the carnage that was Monday night, Tuesday seems relatively tame. Tonight’s must see premieres are not as exciting. I have to say that I need the networks to shift some stuff off of Wednesday or Thursday to the vacant lot that is Tuesday.

    What I’ll be Watching:
    REAPER Logo on The CW
9pm – REAPER (on the CW) – While the Reaper pilot (directed by Kevin Smith) is pretty good, I can’t say that I was head over heels in love with it. I’d say more like luke warm. I love the premise and most of the cast but there are some major pacing issues with the pilot that I hope are fixed before next week’s first real episode. Regardless, tune in tonight to see Leland Palmer er, Ray Wise work his magic as the Devil. The marketing campaign has been pretty genius so I hope this show becomes the breakout CW hit. Well, that and my Gossip Girl!

Other Premieres for Wednesday, September 25th:
    Boston Legal (ABC)
    NCIS (CBS)
    The Unit (CBS)
    Bones (FOX)
    House (FOX)
    The Singing Bee (NBC)
    Law & Order: SVU (NBC)
    *New Show: CANE (CBS)

*CANE is the Jimmy Smits show about a family that owns and runs a sugar cane business and it’s pretty damn good. I just haven’t decided if its a show that I would actually watch week to week so that’s why I’ve not added it to the list of must-see’s. Check it out though and see what you guys think.
