We all knew this was coming so no one should be surprised that other networks are following CBS’ lead in dropping the number of pilot scripts they’re looking at for the upcoming fall television season. FOX and THE CW make some cuts to both their comedy and drama lineups.
Per The Hollywood Reporter:
Fox and the CW on Tuesday followed CBS’ lead and cut their development slates. Fox let go of about two dozen scripts, while the CW dropped about a dozen.
ABC is said to be close to implementing a similar slate reduction, while NBC has been mum about its plans.
The Fox scripts are said to be about evenly split between comedy and drama. Most of them hail from Fox’s main supplier, 20th Century Fox TV, including a drama from writer Josh Berman and a comedy from writer Rob Hanning. Also affected are projects from Warner Bros. TV — including a comedy from the Wayans brothers — as well as ABC Studios, Sony Pictures TV and CBS Paramount Network TV.
“In the current environment, we’ve been forced to take a hard look at our needs for the upcoming season, and as a result we’re going to target a more focused range of projects,” Fox said.
The CW, which also cut comedy and drama scripts, issued a similar statement.
“Due to the ongoing work stoppage, the CW will be taking a more targeted approach to what is certain to be a truncated pilot season,” the network said. “As a result, we are releasing some scripts that had been in development in order to dedicate our creative energy and resources to those projects we choose to pursue.”
Hey gang, we’re gearing up for the premiere of Fox’s TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES this Sunday so I wanted to pass along some information on a special chance to meet the Cast and Producers.
Details:
Sunday, January 13, 2008 (2-3 pm)
LA Comic Book and Sci-Fi Convention
Stars Thomas Dekker (John Connor), Richard T. Jones (Agent Ellison), Summer Glau (Cameron) and Exec. Producer James Middleton.
Don’t forget, the two night premiere of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles begins Sunday over on Fox and continues Monday night!
Sadly FOX paid me no love and didn’t invite my blogging ass to Los Angeles for the premiere of their new series TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES but I’m not bitter because I’m fully loving this show. The pilot is action packed, full of great special fx, and Lena Headey is working it out - this is a good addition to the Terminator series.
Thankfully my blogging buddies Kath from GiveMeMyRemote and Daniel from TheTVAddict were there and reports are starting to flow in. Head on over and check out their accounts, their celebrity encounters, and reactions to the pilot.
Happy New Year and welcome to TV in 2008 — something the likes you’ve never seen before. The WGA Strike has completely changed the landscape of television for the upcoming winter/spring season and we’re here to dish about it.
Dan and Kath are back for TV Podcast #18 and while shows are still new we’re covering the latest from Friday Night Lights, Gossip Girl, The Amazing Race, and Project Runway.
We also give you the latest counts for original episodes remaining for our favorite shows as well as returning faves like LOST, PSYCH, TORCHWOOD and KYLE XY. What about newbies like TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES and NEW AMSTERDAM? What about AMERICAN GLADIATORS? Yup, we chat about those too.
*Just a warning there are major spoilers for the finale of GOSSIP GIRL which has yet to air.

So it looks like Fox is going to hold the three remaining pre-WGA Strike episodes of BONES until May Sweeps and it’s going to air on Monday nights.
I was in the hospital and then the dentist since basically 5pm yesterday so this is news to me. The funny thing is that I just posted a report yesterday how Bones would be moved to Friday’s then Fox amended their previous press release.
So from now until the end of April, Bones will air on Friday nights at 8/7c and then on Monday April 28th, new episodes of Bones will air in the 8/7c timeslot for 4 weeks.
There are only 3 remaining pre-strike episodes left to air but a never before broadcast 4th episode from last season (involving a Virginia Tech type shooting) will finally see the light of day.
FOX is killing me, first and foremost because they’re moving my new favorite obsession BONES to Friday nights at 9/8c. What the frak is that all about? If there were new episodes with Booth and Brennan would they still make the move? This is bothersome to me.
I guess you’re wondering what’s moving to when and where. They’ve once again delayed the premiere of NEW AMSTERDAM until March, same goes for CANTERBURY’S LAW. If you’re wondering, Parker Posey’s JEZEBEL JAMES gets a Friday stinker premiere in March as well. HOUSE moves to Mondays, IDOL takes on Thursdays, and TIL DEATH moves as well.
From Fox’s Press Release:
New drama series NEW AMSTERDAM and CANTERBURY’S LAW will air Mondays on FOX. NEW AMSTERDAM debuts Monday, March 10 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) with special previews of the first two episodes airing Tuesday, March 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, March 6 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), respectively, on FOX. CANTERBURY’S LAW starts making its case Monday, April 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). And new comedy THE RETURN OF JEZEBEL JAMES will premiere Friday, March 14 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) following a sneak preview airing after AMERICAN IDOL on Wednesday, March 12 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT).
All-new episodes of BACK TO YOU will air Tuesday, Feb. 26 and Wednesday, Feb. 27 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) following extended 90-minute AMERICAN IDOL episodes. On Wednesday, March 19 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), BACK TO YOU makes its time period premiere, then returns one week later on Tuesday, March 25 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) with an all-new episode following a new extended AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:30 PM ET/PT). ‘TIL DEATH also kicks off all-new episodes when it makes its time period premiere Friday, March 14 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT).
In addition, ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER? will air an original episode after AMERICAN IDOL on Thursday, Feb. 21 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). HOUSE will now encore on Mondays at 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT beginning March 10 and encore episodes of BONES move to 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT – the show’s time period premiere – on Friday, March 14.
Due to the STATE OF THE UNION address on Monday, Jan. 28, PRISON BREAK will now have its season finale Monday, Feb. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), and TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES will end its season with an explosive two-hour finale Monday, March 3 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Additionally, NEW AMSTERDAM will air its last episodes of the season during a two-hour finale Monday, April 7 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).
What’s with the super short seasons for New Amsterdam and Terminator? I understand the strike killed these shows as well but come on, these were heralded as Fox’s big shows way back in May 2007.
This just in my metal loving end of world friends, starting tomorrow you can watch the premiere of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES for free at Yahoo.
The commercial-free preview of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES will be available for free streaming on Yahoo! for a 24-hour period beginning Friday, Jan. 4 at 9:00 PM PT/Midnight ET. The premiere will also feature an exclusive introduction by Lena Headey (Sarah Connor).
How much do I love the Haskell family? First they hooked a brother up with backstage passes for the tour and then last night I got an email from them reminding me to watch Fox’s New Year’s Eve show which would be featuring a performance by Neil Haskell. Happy New Year to the Haskell Family!
Watch Neil Haskell’s Solo Performance from Fox’s New Year’s Eve Show
I’ve been scouring the internet all morning for video and so far this is the only one I’ve found. I checked and this is the only one that my buddy Ted from BloggingSYTYCD has too. So, if another video is uploaded without words through the performance, I’ll post (or let me know).
It’s New Year’s Eve which means I’ll be in bed by 12:01 a.m. — whoo-hoo! Yeah, I’m increasingly more smug and old manish on New Year’s Eve. When I was a kid my parents would always have a huge party so it was great fun. When I was old enough to celebrate it with friends, it was a bunch of hardcore kids, a cactus accident, and no booze as all of us were straight-edge. Well, a decade or so later and I’m still not going to toast the new year with a drink so it’s kind of lost it’s luster.
I’ll probably head downtown for the parade and the “family” fireworks (over by 7:10 p.m.) and then head back home where I pray noone in my building is having a party so I can settle in to watch Cat Deeley, Strokey Clark, and some others until it’s time for me to say goodnight to 2007.
Remember back in the day when MTV had the best New Year’s Eve show ever? It was a huge countdown of the best videos of the year, then a huge party with a bunch of amazing artists performing. The best always being the alternative bands performing covers of 80s tunes just after the stroke of midnight. MTV’s gotten increasingly shitty so at most in recent years I’ve popped over for a second or two, enough to know I hate every one of their on air “talents” and enough to know that I hate almost every “artist” out there today.
This year we have even less to look forward to on MTV as that whore Tila Tequila basically has the night to her skanky self. Then add Perez, Kid Rock and Good Charlotte… hold on while I jump up and down looking for rope to hang myself with. How Mary J. got hooked into this telecast is beyond me. Girl, get out while you can. Tila Tequila’s New Year’s Eve Masquerade 2008 (11 pm/MTV)
Ex-MTV goldenboy Carson Daly is back on NBC with Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz. Project Runway’s recent dress form Tiki Barber is a correspondent. I don’t care for the newish waifish Carson Daly nor Alicia Keys… and is it New Years 1995 because I know Lenny Kravitz hasn’t had a hit in at least 10 years. New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly (11:35 pm/NBC) (more…)
Fox wants some of NBC’s comedy chops for their own. The Office’s David Denman (Roy) will star in the drama pilot, SAINT OF CIRCUMSTANCE from Scrubs star Zach Braff.
From the Hollywood Reporter:
Braff is in negotiations to direct and executive produce and Denman is set to star in the pilot, which was written by Braff’s brother, Adam.
The project, from ABC Studios, centers on Wayne (Denman), a man going through a midlife crisis who quits his dead-end office job to be a paramedic on the night shift.
Adam Braff also is executive producing “Saint” with ABC Studios-based producer Emile Levisetti.
There is no start date for the pilot, which is expected to film after the end of the writers strike, accommodating Braff’s acting duties on “Scrubs.”
Braff has helmed half a dozen episodes of “Scrubs,” whose seventh and final season has been interrupted by the strike.
On the feature side, Adam and Zack Braff recently adapted the popular children’s book “Andrew Henry’s Meadow” for 20th Century Fox.
Denman, who played a warehouse dock worker and former fiancee of Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) on “Office,” recently guest starred on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” On the big screen, he next will appear in the Sundance entry “Smart People” as well as “Fanboys” and “Shutter.”
The delovely, delish, de-scoopable Michael Ausiello has put together a list of our favorite TV Shows and where they stand in terms of production, shows left to air, etc. in the wake of the WGA Strike. I will update this post as he does. Everyone give a huge shout-out to Mike for this incredibly comprehensive list.

Apparently the “talent” pool is widening because AMERICAN IDOL is going to be allowing the contestants to play instruments… if they know how.
According to TV Guide:
When American Idol debuts its eighth season, a new element will be added: “We’re going to let the contestants play instruments if they can,” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TV Guide at the Nov. 8 Discovery Awards.
The hit Fox series will also feature “mentors” less often. “We realized that we took our eye off the ball and didn’t concentrate on the true talent on the show, and that’s the [wannabes],” says Lythgoe. As such, this season “we’ve got [mentors] just every other week.”
I just keep telling myself that I am not going to watch Idol this year. No way, no how. Enough is enough and if the strike is on, I really can’t watch. Support Scripted Television folks!
BONES Recaps With MEL
Episode 3.06 “Intern in the Incinerator”
So, BONES totally but not really psyched us out this week, guys. I was super excited that this was gonna have something to do with the silver skeleton case, but it so didn’t. The body of an intern was found in the Jeffersonian incinerator, and many of the clues tied the case to the Gormogon vault, but what they squints didn’t realize until about 36 minutes in was that the Gormogon vault then tied the case back to the Authenication Department, where Kristen Reardon (the vic) worked.
The gang was able to rule out her intern frenemy, the doctor she was schtupping (well, he was sort of killed, but whatever) and the skeevefest that is Dr. Bancroft, the head honcho of the Jeffersonian. It turns out that Kristen, who logged all of the artifacts that were sent to the Jeffersonian, discovered a smuggling ring that her supervisor, Dr. Evan Klimkew (weirdest name ever, right?) was conducting. He accidentally killed Kristen, but then tried to pin it first on Dr. Alrdridge (Kristen’s married lover, whom Evan later killed, trying to pass it off as a suicide) then Gormogon, the nickname all the squints gave the silver skeleton serial killer. Even though it didn’t turn out to have any real connections to the serial killer, it was a great case with tons of twists and turns, and scads of great character moments tossed in here and there.
My favorite character this week was Cam, and I’m not afraid to admit it. She wrangled Booth into posing as her “boyfriend” for her dad’s 60th birthday party (which I’ve totally done, don’t hate), but when her younger sis, Felicia, shows up at the Jeffersonian, she totally makes a move on her sister’s man. The two fight over it and cruel tea parties Cam had when they were kids, and then end up pinning it on Booth and heading to lunch like they’d been BFF’s all along (Yeah, done that, too). In a nutshell, they reminded me of my sister and myself- we pick and bicker like cats and dogs, but when we’re friends, we’re Absolute Best Friends. I love that they decided to show us that side of Cam- one that’s not so professional and poised, but endearing and normal and familiar. I know that a lot of fans aren’t loving Cam (some simply because Cam’s jumped Booth’s… bones, if you will), but I find myself enjoying her the more I understand where she’s coming from. She’s fallen into this great rhythm with Ang and Jack and Zach, and even Bones, and I love that she’s truly part of their little circle. More Cam!
Jack and Booth had a great little moment, when Booth pretty much realizes that Jack’s the only emotionally knowledgeable guy he knows that works at the Jeffersonian, and asks for his help on the Cam/Sis/Kiss situation. Jack is gleeful beyond belief, but still makes sure that Booth knows why he needs to tell Cam. I’ve never seen Jack giggle so much, and I feel in love with him all over again.
The B/B interaction was pretty great this week- the writers always find a way to weave cute little moments all us fangirl/boys love into the scripts:
Brennan: Why do you want me to interrogate Aldgride?
Booth: Because he thinks I’m stupid.
Brennan: But you’re not.
Booth: Thanks, Bones.
I don’t know who can help Jack Bauer now… FOX announced this afternoon that 24 has been officially postponed with no air date in sight. The strike continues to wreck havoc…
According to E!:
The seventh-season launch of 24, scheduled for January, has been postponed due to the ongoing union writers’ strike, Fox said Wednesday.
24 is the latest casualty of the walkout that began Monday. Several shows, including NBC’s The Office, have shut down production. ABC’s Desperate Housewives was to follow suit on Thursday.
A Fox spokesman said he didn’t know if 24 had stopped shooting. The network said it was holding off on the premiere “to ensure that ‘Day 7′ can air uninterrupted, in its entirety.”
The new Terminator-spawned series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, has been slated to air in 24’s usual 9 p.m., Monday time slot, beginning Jan. 14.
Fox also announced several premiere dates for already-planned new shows, including the latest from The Gilmore Girls’ creators, The Return of Jezebel James.
The first network to announce a poststrike schedule, Fox said it planned to make it through what could be lean winter and spring months with the midseason replacements, its strike-proof reality series, including Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, its Sunday-night animated comedies—cartoon producers work further ahead than their live-action counterparts—and, oh, American Idol. The behemoth is due back Jan. 15. (more…)
