I’ve always loved the little misleading ditty “Afternoon Delight” by The Starland Vocal Band and it’s only made better by pop cultural takeovers. The film ANCHORMAN has a great rendition and I fucking love it, but it doesn’t hold a candle to what TV has done.
Originally I only had one “Delight” TV fave, but after last night’s episode of GLEE, I now have two!
#1 “Afternoon Delight” TV Moment
It’s ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT:
Genius. Hands down my favorite and most inappropriate version of the song performed by underage Maeby Funke and her Uncle Michael Bluth. It’s so ridiculous, I can’t even deal. I remember watching it for the first time when it aired in 2004 and almost pissed myself. So wrong. So so wrong.
#2 “Afternoon Delight” TV Moment GLEE:
I LOVE IT! Last night’s episode gave us a killer rendition. Watching Emma and her Celibacy Club sing that song was pure clueless-down-on-the-prairie awesomesauce. Those sister wives outfits? Genius.
If you barely survived our bookcasts, don’t worry, we’re back to TV Talk-ing. We met up for an impromptu, late-night carcast and we’re in rare form. That’s right, we’re talking TV with the danger of asphyxiation. You know that’s something you want to hear!
Highlights:
Kath went to the mall (or the airport) with Colby Smolders.
Kath drew the attention of a security guard and calls a girl a stretched midge.
Ducky’s loves Beaver… No, that can’t be right!
Ducky educates y’all on the age of consent in Pennsylvania.
Find out which TV star is packing on the lbs in our opinion.
We’ve coined “Veggiesauce”
For some reason we talk about Two and a Half Men, what’s happening to us?
Kath questions the chances of us dying during this podcast.
Is it “Got VD?” or “Catch Wood!”
Fuck You Ryan Murphy
Paley reunites Freaks & Geeks and the Scupltadorescrew!
Shows covered in this episode: How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, Greek, Pretty Little Liars, The Good Wife, Jersey Shore, Top Chef, An Idiot Abroad, American Idol, Modern Family, The Office, Parks & Recreation, Big Bang Theory, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Supernatural, Megapython & Gatoroid, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Episodes, Shameless
Sweet Baby Grilled Cheesus, I thought I’d post one last (or was it my first?) blog entry for 2010. When you’ve picked yourselves up off the floor from shock, I’ll move on… I’m going to try and blog more in 2011. That’s one of my resolutions. That basically means I have to start the blog from ground up because I’ve neglected the bitch so long that I no longer have any readers. Waaaaaaaaaah *snookie*
Regardless, I’ll do my best in the new year to blog more about TV and other pop culture bullshit.
So as a swan song to 2010 and to ring in the new year…

We survived another snow storm and another podcast! This week, the TV Talk Podcast gives you our thoughts on the winners and losers at this years GOLDEN GLOBES AWARDS.
DAMAGES Season 3 is hot on our heels and we briefly discuss the first two hours. Patty, Ellen and Tom are back for a killer season of manipluation and a sharp game of cat and mouse.
The most satisfying news from the winter TCA press tour revolves around the timeline for the next two seasons of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
PROJECT RUNWAY returns to New York City and the reunion feels so good! Heidi, Michael, Nina and Tim Gunn try to make it work with a new back of 16 designers. We’re already in love!
AMERICAN IDOL kicked off another season and Ducky may or may not be back on the bandwagon.
It wouldn’t be a TV podcast unless we talked about the Leno/Conan Late Night Debacle. What a shit-show…
Oh and did I mention we talk about AVATAR? Why not!
We end this week’s podcast with some fun and games! Get ready for a few rounds of “Would You Rather”: TV Edition.
The 67th Golden Globes Awards air tonight on NBC! I’m not a person that puts a lot of stock in awards shows but I do love me an awards show gathering. It’s chips and dip time y’all! Oh and the fact that Ricky Gervais is hosting makes this must watch television.
As I sit here this morning looking at the list of Golden Globes nominees, I’m realizing I don’t have much of an opinion when it comes to the film categories. Apparently I spend too much time watching films that grace the festival circuit and not the multiplex.
Does that mean I don’t have an opinion? Hardly, I always have an opinion!
Here’s how I’d like to see the Golden Globes shakedown when they air tonight (my picks are in bold). I’m not saying this is what I think will win, but in my heart what I wish would take home the golden sparkly thing. Let’s start with TV!
Best Television Series: Drama
“Mad Men”
“True Blood” “Dexter”
“Big Love”
“House” I really wanted to say TRUE BLOOD but some of that Maryann shit got cuckoo bananas and derailed the show at times. MAD MEN is always fucking crazy good but this season took some time to completely hook me. DEXTER on the other hand had possibly its best season to date. So gooooooooood!
Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series: Drama
Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”
Hugh Laurie, “House” Michael C. Hall, “Dexter”
Simon Baker, “The Mentalist”
Bill Paxton, “Big Love” No contest in my opinion… Michael C. Hall should win. He played the charming, dutiful husband and father with LEAVE IT TO BEAVER grace but he also played a manic, hell bent, jealous and at times loose canon Dex this season. Scary good.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series: Drama
Anna Paquin, “True Blood”
Kyra Sedgwick, “The Closer” Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife”
Glenn Close, “Damages”
January Jones, “Mad Men” While I thought January Jones did a killer job this season, she’s no Glenn Close. But I didn’t pick Glenn Close because I’m ready for a newbie this year. I’m going with Julianna Margulies because her controlled yet crazy empowering portrayal of Alicia Florrick is mesmerizing to watch.
Best Television Series: Comedy
“30 Rock”
“The Office”
“Glee” “Modern Family”
“Entourage” Surely most of you thought I’d pick GLEE for this category. While I think it has a better chance at winning (I mean its hands down the most original series of the year), I’m still going with MODERN FAMILY! Family continues to be a smart, witty, laugh out loud dark family comedy that hits your heart from week to week. Best Series in any category… Period!
The rest of my Golden Globes TV and Film predictions are after the jump… (more…)
Fall Schmall… The Winter 2010 TV schedule is cuckoo-bananas! Ducky and GMMR sat down, screeners in hand, mapped out all the premiere dates and dished the dirt on all the new and returning shows.
What did we think of the first 5 episodes of CHUCK Season 3? What about the new season of 24 featuring Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff)? What about new shows like LIFE UNEXPECTED, THE DEEP END, CAPRICA, HAPPY TOWN and HUMAN TARGET?
Want to know when DAMAGES, LOST, SOUTHLAND, GLEE and NURSE JACKIE return? Want to know how long you have to wait for Lauren Graham to shine in PARENTHOOD? How many more weeks until the return of TV Talk’s recurring listener fave “2 Idiots Talk LOST”?
Remember all those shows we totally forgot to talk about during that last few podcasts? Well, it’s about time we got to them don’t you think? Don’t worry though, we’ve added in a few more recent episodes to talk about as well.
First up is the Season 3 finale of MAD MEN. We’re a couple months late but we just couldn’t ignore it any longer. Next is the recent Season 4 finale of DEXTER. Then we’re on to WHITE COLLAR, BETTER OFF TED, SCRUBS and UGLY BETTY.
You begged, you pleaded and you sent hate mail so we decided to spend some time with the hot boys of SUPERNATURAL. That’s right, the cramazing fall finale is discussed in great length and we may or may not have shed a tear or two for the fallen.
Talk about shedding tears, Ducky talks about DOCTOR WHO’s send off for the brilliant David Tennant. (he’s still a little misty over it all)
Then we’re on to cable shows like JERSEY SHORE, REHAB, ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY and MAN VS FOOD before talking about a possible GLEE burnout.
Another month, another sickness induced hiatus and not one but two surgeries later, GMMR and Ducky are back with a new TV Talk Podcast!
Your favorite carcasters are back to talk about all of the TV we’ve soaked in from our hospital and sick beds.
We kick off the podcast with the Season 6 finale of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Then we move on to the fall finales of GLEE and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
We sink our teeth into some TRUE BLOOD casting news then tackle the return of faves CHUCK and LOST.
MODERN FAMILY and THE OFFICE were Christmas fantastic, as were 30 ROCK and the increasingly brilliant PARKS & RECREATION.
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and THE BIG BANG THEORY are always worth a good conversation as is the debate over THE GOOD WIFE.
What else is on tap? How about MERCY, IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, THE SING-OFF, SAY YES TO THE DRESS, HAPPILY EVER FASTER and LAUNCH MY LINE.
Did the right people win TOP CHEF and PROJECT RUNWAY? Who’s real pretty to look at and what’s our new TV Talk Podcast tagline?
Thanks for being so patient with our crazy illnesses and busy schedules. We wish we could podcast more regularly than we do and we think it’s amazing so many folks care about what we have to say regarding all things TV! You guys are the best.
It’s been 7 weeks since our last podcast and 7 weeks since we last saw each other. You totally thought GMMR and Ducky had called it quits didn’t you? How dare you…
An extended gig in the Hamptons originally sidelined the podcast, then a horrible back injury kept this terrible TV twosome apart until now!
For our first big podcast of the Fall, we thought we’d make up for lost time with a huge 2 hour 10 minute carcast full of laughs, tears, a near death experience and even some New England leaf peeping!
Shows covered in this podcast:
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, BIG BANG THEORY, GOSSIP GIRL, HOUSE, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, THE BIGGEST LOSER, THE GOOD WIFE, V, GLEE, MODERN FAMILY, COUGAR TOWN, TOP CHEF, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, FLASH FORWARD, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, BONES, SUPERNATURAL, FRINGE, THE OFFICE, PARKS & RECREATION, 30 ROCK, COMMUNITY, GREY’S ANATOMY, PRIVATE PRACTICE, UGLY BETTY, DOLLHOUSE, SOUTHLAND, WHITE COLLAR, THE AMAZING RACE, SURVIVOR, DEXTER, MAD MEN and GREEK.
We hope you enjoy our ode to Fall TV so far this season and hope you’ll join in the conversation. Leave your thoughts on what we covered in the comments section of this post! We’d love to hear what you’ve got to say about the new Fall lineup.
Every year, blogger buddy Scooter McGavin prompts some TV Bloggers to pick their favorite new shows of the fall season. He then tabulates it all, uses a Snapple Abacus to determine the Top 10 shows and the results are now in!
Fall 2009’s Top Blogger Rated Shows:
1. GLEE
2. MODERN FAMILY
3. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
4. COMMUNITY
5. COUGAR TOWN
6. V
7. WHITE COLLAR
8. THE GOOD WIFE
9. MERCY
10. THE MIDDLE
If you just did a spit take, I did too… who knew anyone watched THE MIDDLE! It seemed to be a pretty cut and dry competition this season as a lot of my picks are represented here. Sweeeeeeet!
Because I like to give away too much of my personal information on here, below is my Top 5 list for the Fall season. I didn’t do too bad, huh?
Ducky’s Top 5 Fall Shows:
1. MODERN FAMILY
2. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
3. GLEE
4. THE GOOD WIFE
5. COUGAR TOWN
What do you folks think? What would your Top 5 shows be this season? Did we totally get it wrong? Speak!
Tonight’s episode of GLEE was no “Preggers” (and few things ever will be) but it was one hell of a cramazing episode in its own right!
I don’t really have time to recap the episode or write up some big gushy love fest because believe me I could go on and on about GLEE but I had to quick get my giddy as a school girl lovey dovey sensation into blog form before my trip.
This show is just so damn fresh and entertaining that sometimes my mouth hurts way before I realize I’ve been inadvertently smiling like a fool!
How could I not love an episode that involved Kristin Chenoweth (PUSHING DAISIES R.I.P.), a killer CABARET duet between Cheno and Lea Michele, and songs from both Heart and Queen? Brills!
But the real reason I wanted to write something is because of the killer line they gave Emma this week.
She tells Will a story about how she looked up an old high school flame named Andy and how it went terribly wrong… Everything was fine then she broke it off and two weeks later Versace was dead.
Almost instantly, I shit my pants at the horribly genius pop culture reference!
The fact that Emma was partially responsible for Versace’s death is one of the most perfectly wrong things I’ve ever heard in my life! If you’re scratching your head, still not getting the joke then hit the google. Andrew “Andy” Cunanan was responsible for the murder of Gianni Versace on the steps of his Miami mansion in 1997.
I tip my hat to you and your twisted writing staff GLEE!
Here’s the cast of GLEE doing Queen’s “Somebody to Love”
Tonight’s episode of GLEE entitled “Preggers” is an episode i’ve watched 5x already and cannot wait to see again! It is hands down the best episode of the series to date and I dare Ryan Murphy and Co. to top it in the future.
I know there are some people that questioned the genius that is GLEE after last week’s episode but I beg each and every one of you naysayers to tune in tonight and not love every second of “Preggers”.
There are piss yourself hilarious moments, there are some incredible snarktastic lines, some great music and one of the sweetest moments I’ve seen on television this year.
If the adorakable Chris Colfer who plays Kurt Hummel wasn’t your favorite person on earth, he will be after tonight’s daring and hilarious episode. That kid just made me melt with tonight’s episode and I had no shame telling him that at last week’s FOX Fall Kick Off Party! J’adore…
Here’s a preview of “Preggers”:
Obviously there is more to the episode than Kurt Hummel’s journey. Finn proves once again that not only is he adorable and semi-simple minded, he’s open and accepting. Sue gets a spot on the local news and coins a hilarious catchphrase/gesticulation. Sandy returns and helps Sue’s plot to ruin Glee Club by any means necessary. Oh and that title is telling isn’t it? Just wait til you see how that plays out…
I have one line for you: “Put a ring on it on three!”
GLEE officially kicks off its first season tonight at 9pm on FOX!
Whatever you do, please do not miss the most refreshing comedy of the season – GLEE is cramazing and not to be missed!
*For more information on the premiere, check out the first 30 minutes of the latest TV Talk Podcast which features our thoughts on the upcoming episodes and has some interviews with the cast of Glee!
“Showmance” picks up where the pilot we all watched last May ended. New Directions, the McKinley High Glee Club, is still the little engine that could… dodging slushies, dumpsters and port-a-potties in every effort to be part of something special.
Rachel and Finn are growing closer (hence the title) and it’s far from pleasing his girlfriend (head Cheerio) Quinn Fabray. Sue Sylvester (the always genius Jane Lynch) continues to make it her sole mission to bring Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) and his band of freaks to their knees.
Look for hookups, jealousy and obviously singing! “Showmance” officially sold me on Jayma Mays‘ comedy skills and it also endeared me to the Queen Bee, Quinn Fabray! Just wait and see…
Unless you live in a bubble, you’ve probably already downloaded some of the songs from tonight’s premiere. The club tackles “Gold Digger” by Kanye West, “Take a Bow” from Rihanna and “Push It” by Salt ‘N Pepa plus my favorite of the night starring my girl Dianna Argon (Quinn Fabray) which I refuse to spoil (and I’m shocked FOX hasn’t already). If I’m being completely honest here, I didn’t even know “Gold Digger” or “Take a Bow” – I was hoping that “Take a Bow” was going to be the Madonna ballad from the 90s. Hilarious! I’m so out of touch…
I’ve only watched “Showmance” twice since I’ve had the screener and that’s not because I didn’t love it – it’s because I can’t stop watching the episode that will air September 25th “Preggers”. That episode is beyond genius and I cannot wait for everyone to witness the brilliance that is Chris Colfer (Kurt)!
Catch the premiere of GLEE (“Showmance”) right after the premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Season 6 only on FOX.
If you’re a hardcore GLEEK, don’t be caught dead at school tomorrow without your “I’m a Gleek” t-shirt!
The new Fall TV season is less than a week away and while I’ve been busy trying to watch all the new pilots I have to say that I’m not super excited about the new crop of shows. Bummer huh?
My podcasting partner in crime GMMR and I have been trying to schedule time to talk Fall TV and we hope to have all of the network podcasts up in the next week so hold tight. We’ve posted our thoughts on the new shows for The CW so please listen to that podcast to see what we love and/or hate.
In the meantime here are the shows I plan on watching this Fall. Shows in BLUE are what I plan on watching LIVE or DVR’d. Shows in PINK are ones that I will have to catch online or via iTunes.
MONDAY (click to enlarge) Monday’s have traditionally been a pretty busy night of TV viewing for me. However, this year it’s looking pretty open.
I’m annoyed that the power hour that started my night of television last year has been split up because BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was a partnership made in heaven. I’ll be interested to see what happens to BBT at such a late hour (and I hope to remember its on that late) and if I feel like the vibe is the same without it’s partner.
Another year, another chance to officially drop HEROES. Last year I decided to watch then within 5 episodes I dropped that lame duck for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. Going into Season 4, I’ve vowed to not even give it a single frame of consideration. Will. Not. Watch!
After a brief vacation from the kids on the Upper East Side, a summer marathon has renewed my love for all things GOSSIP GIRL. That doesn’t mean I won’t get annoyed with the repetitive storylines and the lame quick-wrap secondary storylines – it just means I’m excited for the show to return and kick some ass! Let’s not fuck it up Savage & Schwartz.
If you’re interested in ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE starring Jenna Elfman, Ashley Jensen and Grant Show you should watch. It’s a very traditional sitcom and paired with TWO AND A HALF MEN, I think it’s going to be a huge hit. I just don’t see myself watching it week to week. The pilot is cute, Elfman is adorable and the premise is fun. Mark my words, this is one of the biggest new shows in 09.
TUESDAY (click to enlarge)
Believe it or not, I’m only watching two shows on Tuesday’s but hell if that isn’t four frakkin’ hours of television.
I’m a total sucker for the weight loss and emotional meltdowns of THE BIGGEST LOSER so there’s no chance I’m not watching Bob and Jillian bust some fatties once again. Love that damn show.
Obviously you know I’m a huge SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE junkie so that’s a no brainer – or is it? I’ve been very vocal about how I don’t love the idea of bringing SYTYCD to the Fall. I love having it as my summer obsession because I have less shows to watch in the summertime which means more time for a Paso Doble or two. Pushing it on us in the middle of the onslaught of new and returning shows seems cruel and I hate that it’s going to take up two hours of my Fall TV schedule. There… I’ve said it.
I’m not gonna lie – from time to time I will probably watch The CW’s reboot of MELROSE PLACE. I actually enjoyed the pilot episode. It’s 100% better than I expected it to be and surely my partner Jon will want to pop in and out of that salacious complex.
*If you’re wondering about BETTER OFF TED, don’t worry its coming back after DwtS ends (which isn’t soon enough)!
**ABC’s reboot of V starts November 3rd at 8pm (shitty time slot for a show that is not suited for 8pm) and I’m super excited. I loved the original as a kid and I really enjoyed the pilot for the remake. Plus, it’s got Elizabeth Mitchell, Alan Tudyk and Scott Wolf!
WEDNESDAY (click to enlarge)
Wednesday night is really the only night I’m giving new shows a chance at making it into my live/dvr rotation.
SYTYCD has it’s results show at 8pm and that’s followed by GLEE (which we all know I flippin’ heart). It’s a great one-two punch and I’m really looking forward to Wednesday’s – thanks FOX!
Over on ABC, my favorite new comedy, MODERN FAMILY gets paired up with the pretty good COUGAR TOWN. Trust me when I tell you to tune in to MODERN FAMILY. The pilot has laugh out loud funny jokes throughout and one of the best, THE BEST, things I’ve ever seen in the final few minutes. COUGAR TOWN is fun, a little dirty and honestly who doesn’t love having Courtney Cox, Busy Phillips and Josh Hopkins back on their screens?
EASTWICK is not as bad as you think it might be. The hour grew on me as it progressed and I’m willing to give it a couple weeks which is more than I can say for many of the new shows this Fall.
I’m a Glee, Wouldn’t You Like To Be a Gleek Too? Check out our latest GLEE shirt & merch design inspired by one of my favorite Dr. Pepper shirts from my youth! Purchase your Glee Merch today!
If you haven’t realized it yet, GLEE is my favorite new fall show and I can’t help but want to share my excitement with others.
Don’t miss out on tonight’s re-airing of the GLEE pilot episode with deleted scenes and musical numbers and mark your calendars because brand new episodes of GLEE begin September 9th on FOX!
