TV Talk with GMMR and Ducky is back! After 7 weeks, we were finally able to see each other and dish all the dirt on our favorite shows.
Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, House, Gossip Girl, American Idol, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica, Brothers & Sisters, So You Think You Can Dance, Ugly Betty, Greek and so much more.
We take some last minute listener questions on which finale’s we’re most looking forward to and also which hot summer movies our fave TV stars are popping up in. Not to mention Kath gets to wax The Office finale after one Canadian listener begs for finale information.
Also, be on the lookout for the return of TWO IDIOTS TALK LOST! We watch the show but we’re not experts, sue us.

One of the highlights of IFFBoston 2008 was when I got to play host/wrangler/butt o’ joke to the always sassy but incredibly endearing Jay McCarroll and the directors of the documentary about Jay’s first post-Project Runway Bryant Park show, ELEVEN MINUTES. Of the 96 films we screened during the festival, this was one of the ones I was most looking forward to.
Having been a diehard PR fan since Day 1 and a champion of the documentary, I was really looking forward to how fun a night with Jay and directors Michael Selditch and Rob Tate could be. It was my last Intro/Q&A of the festival and I knew anything was possible.
After playing Rock Band (courtesy of our fab sponsor Harmonix) with Jay (myself on drums, he on the mic), threatening to shove drum sticks up each others asses and cackling, it was time to hit the stage. It was hands down my most out of control Introduction of the fest. Not only did it turn into a spectacle, it almost cost someone an eye!
I went on stage (for a crowd of 300+) and did my fest shtick then thought I was introducing Michael, Rob and Jay to help throw out some shirts and then giveaway Rock Band to one lucky audience member but when the curtains parted, out came my fest comrade and Ducky reader Nancy (aka falsemaria). We tossed out some shirts, Nancy pegged some girl in the eye then the curtains opened again and it was Michael and Rob’s turn to toss some goodies. It opened one more time and was Jay anywhere to be found? YES! This time Jay and fellow fest organizer Christine step out to give away Rock Band! The crowd was raucous and Jay only made them fall in love with him more.
After the film, we all took the stage for the Q&A which was hilarious. Michael and Rob were entertaining and engaging while Jay was self deprecating and a comic genius. While I won’t go into all of his thoughts on Project Runway, Tim Gunn, or his new QVC line I will let you know that he’d so tap some Duckster.
I believe the random quote went something like this: “Dan’s cute, I’d totally fuck him.” On stage. With a mic in his hand. Audience. Yeah… Who wouldn’t really. I kid. Jon might have a thing or two to say about that! That Jay McCarroll is one funny gay and I couldn’t be happier that I had the privilege of handling him during the festival.
Directors Michael and Rob were incredibly nice, funny, generous and kickass so I have no complaints at all. They’re working on a new docu-series for Sundance called ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL (premiering Fall 2008). If you get to catch ELEVEN MINUTES at a fest near you, I beg of you to go. You won’t be disappointed. The blood, sweat, and yes the tears that went into making Jay’s first show is mind boggling and I’m shocked any designer can get it together enough to show at Fashion Week. It’s one beautiful disaster after another.
Well gang, I know I’ve been pretty absent this month but finally all of the absence is about to pay off, for me at least. Last night was opening night of the Independent Film Festival of Boston, my other love child. Our opening night film was Brad Anderson’s TRANSSIBERIAN which stars Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer, Sir Ben Kinglsey, Kate Mara and more.
With over 800 people in attendance, it was a spectacular start to the fest and one I’m happy is behind us. It was a wild night, incredibly fun but a lot of work. Brad Anderson, Ben Kingsley, Will Conroy and others were in attendance for the film and did a great Q&A (check out some photos). Everyone really seemed to enjoy the film and having Brad back in his hometown of Boston for the East Coast Premiere of the film.
Alas, we’re far from over. That was just opening night, our easiest of the week. With 6 days to go and over 95 more films to play (almost 170+ screenings ahead) it’s go time which means no more blogging about TV until after the fest.
Tonight we have our Coolidge Corner Theatre premiere with WE ARE WIZARDS and a performance by Harry and the Potters. Saturday night, the documentary will be followed by not only Harry and the Potters but Draco and the Malfoys, The Whomping Willows and The Hungarian Horntails. It’s an evening we like to call WIZARDS ROCK! Oh yeah, the amazing Brad Neeley will also be in attendance.
With so many more things to talk about fest wise, I’ll only go into the one’s I’m doing introductions and Q&A’s for. Obviously tonight I’m doing Wizards (followed by BLOOD CAR – frak yes). Later in the weekend I’ll be taking care of Project Runway’s Jay McCarroll, Mary Stuart Masterson, Chris Eigeman, Famke Janssen and more. I somehow I drew a number of our celeb attendees this year. The other staff members are j-to-the-ealous… I kid. Everyone has amazing films they’re assigned to introduce and moderate.
It should be a crazy busy and fun week so if you’re in the Boston area come on out to any of our venues: The Somerville Theatre, The Coolidge Corner Theatre or The Brattle for some film fest fun.
I’ve watched The Biggest Loser (finale tonight, GO ALI) and Battlestar Galactica (Katee Sackoff was phenom this past week and I wept like a little bitch) and that’s about it.
I forgot to even record 30 Rock or The Office from last Thursday not to mention I totes forgot to record the last two weeks of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory (though, have they even been on?). I’m still a couple weeks behind on Torchwood (maybe only 1 week), Idol is youtube when I have a minute or two at work and who knew last night was the return of Bones?
In other words, TV is so not happening until May. That also means I’m going to miss the return of Gossip Girl next Monday and Supernatural next Thursday (though I can watch it today, if I had time… might find the time).
Sorry for the interruption in blogging folks… Until the end of the month I will only be posting when I have the time. My other baby, The Independent Film Festival of Boston is April 23-29th and it’s honestly occupying all of my time. I’m not really watching much television which means I’m obviously not blogging that often. I will post about when I have the chance and those posts will be below this one, so scroll down…
In the meantime, read through my archives, catch up on our TV Podcasts, donate to my charity AIDS Ride, visit ThePieMaker.com, or better yet come to Boston and hang out during the film festival! We have 96 films to choose from over 6 days so you really can’t go wrong.
Check out the IFFBoston 2008 Lineup. Check out the new IFFBlog! Calendar, screening times, and ticketing information to come in the next day or two.
Sorry for being so absent, but IFFBoston is my other passion and no child shall be left behind!
Hey gang, for most of April its going to be slim pickings here at Ducky Does TV because now is the time when I go full throttle into festival mode. Breaking Into The Boston Film Industry
With some of top working professionals in the Boston area including IATSE Local 481 Business Manager Chris O’Donnell.
Starting now, I will probably not be watching television (other than here and there between sleep anxieties) or blogging until after The Independent Film Festival of Boston ends on Tuesday, May 1st.
Tonight is our opening night film FAY GRIM starring the always amazing Parker Posey and Jeff Goldblum along with James Urbaniak as they rock their way through the sequel to Hal Hartley’s 1997 film Henry Fool.
Tomorrow night is going to be out of control withe sold out World Premiere of ON BROADWAY with stars Eliza Dushku, Will Arnet, Joey McIntyre, Mike O’Malley and director Dave McLaughlin in attendance. Seriously OOC.
There are more filmmakers, actors, producers, etc than ever in attendance at this, our 5th Anniversary. If you live in the area, please stop in and catch some films.
Hope you have fun and hope television is amazing. I’ll be catching up best I can. Talk to you guys soon.
While I’m just now jumping on the 30 Rock bandwagon and hella loving it, I have to say that I’m shocked to see Jack DonaghyAlec Baldwin is a verbally abusive Father in real life.
TMZ has the audio of Alec Baldwin’s horribly ugly phone message to his ELEVEN YEAR OLD daughter. It’s an out of control rant that is borderline child abuse and it really pains me to listen to. Not that I don’t think people should be able to have Monster freakouts when warranted but to leave the message he left for his daughter is inexcusable.
Apparently all those David Mamet lines of dialogue have carried over into his day to day vernacular (thank you teacher)… at least he didn’t call his daughter a fucking fuck. Phew! She dodged a bullet.
If you’re not completely disgusted by Baldwin’s behavior and prefer to judge him on his amazing acting abilities and charming good looks, then check out the World Premiere of his new film BROOKLYN RULES at the Independent Film Festival of Boston. Brooklyn Rules is showing at the Coolidge Corner Theatre as our closing night film on Tuesday, May 1st.
See what I did? I turned a negative into a positive. I’m good like that!
As many of you know, I work for the Independent Film Festival of Boston and our festival starts next Wednesday and runs through the following Tuesday (April 25-May 1, 2007).
We are the largest film festival in New England and in my opinion, the best and hardest working festival in the area as well. But, I might be biased…
My media tour continues (it’s like a big media or book tour but where I get no exposure and noone asks for autographs or even recognizes me…) as I do my best to pimp the festival and our volunteers.
A couple weeks back I did an online video promo for a local arts and entertainment website and this week I’m chatting about the 170+ volunteers that keep our festival going and how killer they are. Click here to read the article.
It’s less than 1 week until I get to siddle up next to Miss Five by Five herself, Faith from Buffy, Ms. Eliza Dushku. I cannot wait, even though I’ll have to play it cool and be all festival coordinatorly and all I will be geeking out inside. I mean, who doesn’t love some Faith?
Eliza, along with Will Arnett, Mike O’Malley, Joey McIntyre, and a Walberg will all be in attendance for the already SOLD OUT 900 seat venue holding the premiere of the film ON BROADWAY. It’s going to be an insane night and having Eliza Dushku and Will Arnett in the same room is a TV Geek dream!
If you’re in the area, there are still some seats available for the second showing of ON BROADWAY, Sunday April 29th at the Somerville Theatre. Get tickets early because that one is almost sold out as well!
In addition to my blogging duties and my full time job, I work for theIndependent Film Festival of Boston. This is my second year working for the festival and I couldn’t love it more… well unless we had a 24 hour marathon of LOST and HEROES somehow thrown into it.
IFFBoston is celebrating its 5th Anniversary next month and I thought I’d promote our festival right here on my TV Blog. I hope you tv addicts don’t mind, trust me… if you stick with it, you’ll see that there are some TV connections I just can’t deny. We are the largest film festival in New England with 80+ films being screened over our 6 day run in our numerous locations around the city. Last year over 22,000 people came out and this year we’re hoping for more. It’s an amazing and crazy time for all.
Here’s me pimping the festival online. I look like such a dork! Please head on over there so we can make my piece one of their most viewed clips! Why not?
The filmmakers that have attended in the past have really championed our festival for its laid back and community enhancing environment. We love it because the filmmakers that come have an amazing time and really just relax and have fun with it… and go candlepin bowling!
Keep reading to find out what cult tv star who’s not quite an Angel but always Brings It will be coming to the festival this year!
