We threatened to never do another TV Talk Podcast if you didn’t flock to iTunes and leave us comments… well I’m happy to report that you love us as much as we love you! Thanks to your generosity, we are back and this week’s podcast is a lot of fun!
We revise our thoughts on Swingtown now that we’re both completely caught up (and loving it), we talk about my chat with Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) and her stint on Burn Notice plus some scoop on her new Fox pilot Inseparable.
Next we tackle one of the most talked about Fall pilots, J.J. Abrams FRINGE! Kath and I will review the plot, the mystery and the hotness that is Josh Jackson but don’t worry we don’t spoil anything for you! We’re good like that!
Then it’s time for some listener emails because you guys are cramazing!
Who wants to talk Comic-Con? No? Tough because we run down the shows that will be in San Diego and vent our frustrations over the scheduling. If you’re going to be in town for Comic-Con and you’re a reader or listener, let us know… we’d love to see you!
Before wrapping up this week we have a little fun with our TV version of F, Marry, Kill! That’s right, we each pick one we’d boink, one we’d marry and one we’d go Dexter Morgan on. join in the fun and leave us some comments about who you’d F, Marry and Kill based on our choices. We’ll read some of them on the air in our next podcast.
I don’t know about any of you but I spent a good portion of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s mid-season finale “Revelations” on the edge of my seat and on the verge of tears. We all know I’m a total pussy and that I can cry at the drop of a hat but damn if there weren’t some moments last night that damn near slayed me.
First of all I’d just like to say that one of the most gratifying yet heartbreaking moments of the entire night was watching Col. Tigh reveal to Bill Adama that after 30+ years of friendship, he was in fact one of the final 5 cylons. The circumstance was perfect and Tigh’s fear, anxiety and need to do the right thing not only damn near killed him, it had my stomach in knots. I was so nervous for his reveal and the reaction Adama would have that I had the only reaction Adama had… tears. Huge kudos to both Edward James Olmos for breaking his tough exterior to show how absolutely devastated his character was and to Michael Hogan for running every emotion possible through that one frakkin’ eye. Two powerhouses going at each other and it was pure genius.
I’d also like to give a huge shout out to Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber for their incredible performances in “Revelations.” President Adama aka Lee aka Apollo was put to task and he came out with not only the respect of the entire fleet but finally the respect of President Roslin. Laura’s one hard-ass woman and those two have had a tenuous past at best. Lee was vulnerable and scared out of his frakkin’ mind but he came across as powerful, thoughtful and headstrong when the fleet needed him most. When he almost airlocked Tigh, Bamber was hot business and then he broke me in those final moments with Roslin as he relinquished his position.
Katee Sackhoff was given the Emmy getting storylines this season. After thinking she may never return to the show toward the end of last season, it was great to see her role beefed up and her relevance to the end game so essential. The moment that got me during the finale was her realization that yes Virginia, Sam Anders is a frakkin’ toaster. Go back and watch what Sackhoff did with just a slight change or two in her eyes. Breathtaking! Who else almost pissed themselves as she was trying to get to Lee before he flushed Tigh? Killer pacing, editing and musical accompaniment.
I was happy to see some sort of common ground finally reached between Gaius and Laura. Those two have been at odds since the mini-series so I was happy to see some level of respect between them. Bury the hatchet already because you bitches have to find Earth!
And let’s talk about Earth. Again, I was a big old wet mess of tears from the moment Laura gave the order to jump to earth all the way to the credits. I always knew that they would never find the utopian Earth they’d envisioned but I never expected it to be as bad as it really was.
The worst case scenario I picked was that the entire fleet and cylon base ship would jump into Earth’s atmosphere and us humans would shit ourselves and send nukes flying toward Galactica! I thought there was going to be some big battle to protect Earth and eventually our Galactica pals would be accepted and allowed to remain but wow did that go a totally different direction… for the better.
I’ve never seen a more sullen and defeated bunch than those sad sacks from the remaining colonies standing on the shores of a decimated and post-apocalyptic Earth. These guys can’t catch a break! New Caprica was probably a luxury resort compared to the shit storm they’re facing on Earth. NYC looks like hell. It brought me much sadness while at the same time such joy. It was the perfect ending, the ultimate slap in the face and I loved it!
I’m dying that we have to wait until a yet undetermined time to see how the end of the entire series will play out.
As it looks now, the show will not return until sometime in 2009 so bust out those DVD’s this summer and start from the beginning… rediscover the genius that is BSG and for fraks-sake, get some of your friends hooked if they aren’t already. Don’t let a fan of great television miss out on one of the best shows ever created. So say we all!
I only have a minute but I wanted to quick post about something that my friend Jeff and I were just talking about in regards to Battlestar Galactica.
Because I haven’t had the chance to blog about the return of BSG, I wanted to mention a couple things. First of all I think that the first two episodes of the season have been frakkin’ amazing. The premiere was so well paced, the space combat scenes were a welcomed comeback and the effects incredible. The acting, top notch. Not a bad thing to say, well other than I’m not a fan of the whole harum/cult thing and I think that bug eyed actress who’s the head of them is a really really bad actress. The other one, the one that’s willing to kill for Baltar, I’m fine with her.
Last week’s episode had me crying like a little bitch. Katee Sackhoff did some incredible work as the increasingly tortured Starbuck. From her initial standoff with Roslin to her painful talk with Admiral Adama she dominated the screen like she hasn’t been able to since Season 1. Her prison cell scene with Lee was sad yet hot business and how amazing was her redemption with Adama and Helo? So great.
Anyway, this is no longer a “quick post”…
For the last two weeks I’ve been talking to Jeff about how I feel that Zac Adama is going to be coming back to the show somehow. This is just a theory I have, I haven’t read about it at all it just came to me (so if its out there online as common knowledge, I apologize but whatevs). He was referenced in the premiere, he was brought up again this past week and also this past week we saw a picture of him.
I originally thought that maybe he would be back as the final Cylon but really would that make much sense or impact because how is one of Adama’s son’s a cylon but not the other, yadda yadda yadda. Plus, do we really care shock-wise if Zac is the final Cylon? Sure it will kill the Adama and Starbucks of the fleet but I don’t know if its the most powerful choice.
So then we were talking about how maybe he’s not dead and he’s actually already on Earth. It could be a situation like Starbuck’s. We saw her viper explode, she should have been dead but looky-loo she’s back. She went to Earth in her downtime. A mini-vaca if you will. What if the same happened to Zac but he never was sent back or never came back, or something? What if the Adama’s have some link to Earth and that’s why Starbuck is meant to bring them there?
I don’t know, I talking out of my ass (clearly) so nevermind.
Oh and the other thing we were talking about. The preview for tonight’s episode shows Callie maybe finding out that Chief is a Cylon and then they show someone hit the airlock button. What if instead of Callie going out the airlock, she flushes her hybrid baby? She frakkin’ HATES the Toasters, so I don’t see her dealing with the revelation that her husband and baby are of the cylon clan. I’m praying we see an infant get sucked out the airlock tonight! How inhumane will that be? Amazing, I love it. Make it happen!
I’ve watched The Biggest Loser (finale tonight, GO ALI) and Battlestar Galactica (Katee Sackoff was phenom this past week and I wept like a little bitch) and that’s about it.
I forgot to even record 30 Rock or The Office from last Thursday not to mention I totes forgot to record the last two weeks of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory (though, have they even been on?). I’m still a couple weeks behind on Torchwood (maybe only 1 week), Idol is youtube when I have a minute or two at work and who knew last night was the return of Bones?
In other words, TV is so not happening until May. That also means I’m going to miss the return of Gossip Girl next Monday and Supernatural next Thursday (though I can watch it today, if I had time… might find the time).
It’s Friday and that means we are just one week away from the premiere of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Season 4! In order to get everyone frakkin’ excited, Sci-Fi is running two half hour specials tonight.
At 10pm EST you can catch Battlestar Galactica: Revealed which will catch you up on the past three seasons. BSG creators Ron Moore and David Eick will play host (what, no Mrs. Ron?).
Then at 10:30pm EST we can hear from celebs like Brad Paisley, Seth Green, Joel McHale and others about the “Phenomenon” of Battlestar and its impact on pop culture.
Battlestar Galactica’s Season 4 Premiere is still almost 2 months (April 4, 2008) away but that doesn’t mean Sci-Fi wants us to sit back and wait for the goods.
Here’s are 25 new promo photos hot off the NBC Press Site! I’m still not used to seeing Lee in a suit and with longer hair. Where’s my towel clad hunk of years past?
With Starbuck back from the dead, will she lead the remaining members of the colonies to Earth or to their final destruction? Who’s the final cylon? Why is there a new version of 6? Why is Lee Adama so frakkin’ hot? It’s time for us to find out.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Final Season (4) begins April 4th, 2008. Leading up to the premiere we’ll be treated with a two specials that are not to be missed.
Here is the Press Release announcing BSG’s return:
The wait is finally over for Battlestar Galactica fans. SCI FI’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning original series returns for its fourth original season on Friday, March 28 @ 10pm ET/PT with two back-to-back half-hour specials. The first new episode will premiere the following week, Friday, April 4 @ 10pm ET/PT.
Battlestar Galactica: Revisited (10pm) will serve up the essential information on the series’ past three seasons, providing the uninitiated with an introduction to the characters, relationships and spine-tingling drama that have captured the imagination of audiences around the world. Galactica’s executive producers, Ronald D. Moore and David Eick serve as guides, providing insights and revelations about the critically-acclaimed series.
Battlestar Galactica: The Phenomenon (10:30pm) is a celebrity-studded celebration of the show’s impact on pop culture. Interviewees, including Seth Green, country music’s Top Male Vocalist of 2007 Brad Paisley, and Talk Soup’s Joel McHale, and others, wax poetic about why Battlestar Galactica is one of the best frakkin’ shows on television.
As season 4 opens, the last remnants of humanity continue their search for a new home, the thin line that separates them from the rapidly evolving Cylons is being redrawn. Galactica’s crew, rocked by Starbuck’s sudden and mysterious return from the dead – and her claims that she has been to Earth and can lead them there – attempts to make sense of the inexplicable. Meanwhile, four members of the fleet are still reeling from the revelation that they are Cylons and have been all along.
Holy Frak, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: RAZOR kicks major toaster ass! I just got home from watching RAZOR at The Fenway 13 with a couple hundred of my closest friends and I can’t even fully verbalize how incredible it is. So much happens in the two hour movie that I don’t even know where to begin.
Razor acts as a stand alone, a companion, and a catalyst. It goes back in time to show us what happened to the Battlestar Pegasus before, during, and after the Cylon attack that jump started the mini-series back in 2003.
Michelle Forbes is stunning, haunting, and magnetic as Admiral Cain. We watch her go from powerhouse with a shred of humanity to a maniacal hellbent rage-aholic and it’s an incredible transformation to watch. The story is carried by a new character named Kendra Shaw played with such force by Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen. The similarities between her characters transformation are incredibly on par with the whole of what we’ve witnessed on the last 3 seasons of BSG. She’s naive at first but quickly become hard and ultimately a hero. She’s a little Cain, a little Lee, a little Starbuck… not a bad combo.
Many of our favorites are present for a good chunk of Razor as well. Lee Adama, Admiral Adama, Pegasus 6, and Starbuck are the most prominent figures from our current BSG world and each one is doing some of their best work here. The cameos by Roslin and many of the other regulars was a welcomed treat as was the killer flashback to a Young “Husker” Bill Adama (hey, I’m now dying for CAPRICA - the BSG prequel series still floating around to come to fruition).
Razor gives us a ton of backstory on Pegasus, how they ended up the way they did and why there are differences in how they survived and how Galactica survived. The parallels are there but the differences even greater. It questions morality and as with BSG, it mirrors our political and military climate today.
It also introduces some new elements that will play out in Season 4, the final season of Battlestar Galactica when it airs in April 2008. The most important a deep dark voice who repeatedly tells us that: “This has happened before and it will happen again.” We also learn a little something about one of our favorites and it’s a BIGGIE that I won’t give away here. Honestly, there are 2 weeks before RAZOR premieres on Sci-Fi and I want you to be surprised. I sat there with my sweater pulled up over my mouth because I was so anxious in those final moments… I want others to have that same anticipation and fear.
We were also treated to a Preview of Battlestar Galactica Season 4 which knocked my socks off! Frak I love BSG!

Premise:
Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teenage sister, Jaime Sommers (Michelle Ryan, “EastEnders”) didn’t think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death’s door, Jaime’s only hope for survival is a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price.
With a whole new existence and a debt to re-pay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good — while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it’s Jaime’s journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as the Bionic Woman in this new action-drama series.
Also starring are: Miguel Ferrer (”Crossing Jordan”) as Jonas Bledsoe, the man who employs Jaime’s boyfriend; Molly Price (”Third Watch”) as Ruth Treadwell, Jonas’ second-in-command; Chris Bowers (”Rescue Me”) as Will Anthros, Jaime’s boyfriend, who performs the operation; Will Yun Lee (”Witchblade”) as Jae Kim, the specialized operations leader; Lucy Kate Hale (“How I Met Your Mother”), as Jaime’s younger sister, Becca; and Mark Sheppard (“Battlestar Galatica”) as Dr. Anthony Anthros, Will’s father and the man who originated the bionic technology.
Ducky’s Thoughts: I was lucky enough to have seen the original pilot with Anne from Arrested Development as Jaime’s deaf sister so I can’t really compare it to this new pilot unless I get that before the season starts. I really liked the premise and while I loved the campy show from my youth, this is a good retooling ala Battlestar.
Michelle Ryan will be a huge star, no doubt about it. I love that Katee Sackhoff is such an integral part of the plot yet doesn’t have to be in every episode. She can come in and be a big crazy bitch, and she is - trust me, then disappear for a while.
I’m hoping that the pacing and some of the missed emotional beats will be worked on with the new pilot. Until then, fingers crossed.
I leave in a mere 5 hours for sunny San Diego where I’ll probably see no sun or feel no summer loving as I’ll be spending all of my time inside the San Diego Convention Center with 200,000 of my closest geek friends.
COMIC-CON 2007 begins tomorrow and I’m there all weekend with GMMR and some other TV Bloggers for the biggest group of television panels a fan could dream of.
Want LOST scoop? Heroes Spoilers? Supernatural Hotties? Battlestar’s Final Season Spoiler? The dish on new shows like Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Bionic Woman, Reaper, Moonlight, Journeyman, and many more? Want a podcast chock full of these goodies? Well, keep checking back all weekend as I’ll try and post some updates each night.
Want to follow me all day, Thursday through Sunday while I try and get Lee Pace naked? Follow me on TWITTER! There’s also a Twitter panel on the right hand sidebar. Check back for updates throughout the day, all day, all weekend!
While I’m gone, please head on over to my new site… DUCKY DOES TV! I’m in the midst of moving all posts there so that will be Ducky’s new home very very very soon! Let me know what you think. I love the new layout and I’m still working on all the content so bear with me.
May the force be with you or something dorky like that!
**Oh and anyone wondering what TV shows won out for the trip. I’m finishing Season 1 of Kyle XY and I downloaded the first 7 episodes of Psych.
TV Podcast 11: Ducky and GMMR take a dip in the technical difficulties pool and come out swinging.
BIG BROTHER 8 has arrived and we’re obsessed. We talk spoilers, live feeds, and our favorites. What do we think about BURN NOTICE? PSYCH’s back on USA. KATHY GRIFFIN does gay porn and RESCUE ME forgets to rescue one of their own.
Do we need two karaoke shows? We dissect SPELLING BEE and DON’T FORGET THE LYRICS.
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE continues to dominate the summer and we talk about our new favorites.
A little TRANSFORMERS talk? Sure, just a bit. COMIC-CON? Yes, we’re now Comic-Con geeks and we preview our trip at the end of July. PUSHING DAISIES, MOONLIGHT, BIONIC WOMAN and other Fall Shows.
As you’ve maybe heard me mention in one or two posts, I’m taking my first trip to San Diego’s COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL in two weeks.
Comic-Con has moved beyond the manga lovin’, furry wearing, swoard bearing, trekkies you’re thinking about right now. It’s more than a comic book convention. It’s a sci-fi convention as well. That doesn’t make it sound any less geek central does it? It’s turning into a Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy Film and TV Convention as well. Sound better? I thought so.
As you know, I’m one of the people that runs The Independent Film Festival of Boston (shout out Nancy, Brian, and Christine who regularly read the blog and are my cohorts) and obviously you know I’m a big TV geek. The chance to see panel discussions, meet creators of film and tv shows I love, see sneak previews of films and tv shows I love is just too big. I must go!
GMMR and I are shacking up in San Diego for the week and we’ll be meeting up with Rae, The TV Addict, Seat42f and many other tv bloggers (as well as 250,000 of our closest and scariest friends) to cover all things fall tv! We’re also hoping to do a huge TV Bloggers Podcast or two!
What shows are gonna be there? The list is big and here are the ones I plan on attending in some capacity.
