Another new FOX comedy is the Tyler Labine fronted SONS OF TUSCON. For fans of REAPER, this means bad things for The CW’s devilish comedy but look at it this way, the dude from INVASION is still working.

SONS OF TUSCON premieres Winter 2010 and airs at 8:30pm on Sundays (after CLEVELAND’s initial run).

SONS OF TUSCON Preview:

SONS OF TUSCON Synopsis:
In the tradition of “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The Bernie Mac Show,” SONS OF TUCSON is a family comedy about three brothers who hire a charming, wayward schemer to stand in as their father when their real one goes to prison.

What begins as a business relationship evolves into something more complex and compelling: a family unlike any we’ve ever seen.

The three brothers find their dad-for-hire, RON SNUFFKIN (Tyler Labine, “Reaper”), at the local sporting good store. Ron will be forced to draw on a wide array of skills and a vast bag of tricks as he steps into the patriarch role to take care of the boys of the Gunderson family. ROBBY GUNDERSON (Davis Cleveland, “How I Met Your Mother”), 8, is a loose cannon who doesn’t take garbage from anyone; GARY GUNDERSON (Frank Dolce, “Doubt”), 11, is a bright and street-savvy leader who is every bit the con man his father is; and BRANDON GUNDERSON (Troy Gentile, “Entourage”), 13, is a gentle free spirit who goes along for the ride. MAGGIE MORALES (Natalie Martinez, “Saints & Sinners”), Robby’s second-grade teacher and the object of Ron’s affection, might just be the only stable figure in the lives of this quirky quartet.

While SONS OF TUCSON is grounded in the day-to-day challenges of a single-parent home, nothing in the Gunderson household is quite what it seems. An ongoing chess match between Ron and the boys will keep both parties on their toes, as neither side can afford to give up too much power or independence.

SONS OF TUCSON is directed by three-time Emmy Award-winner Todd Holland (“Malcolm in the Middle,” “The Larry Sanders Show”) and produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Justin Berfield, Jason Felts, Harvey Myman and Todd Holland serve as executive producers. Tommy Dewey and Greg Bratman wrote the pilot.

Ducky’s back from vacation which means it’s time for another TV Talk Podcast! We have almost 3 weeks to cover so make yourself some tea, get a snack and settle in for the soothing cackles and rants we’re about to sling your way.

We start as we always do, Monday nights. BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER continues to be the best damn double bill on television. CHUCK goes to the suburbs, tests his best friendship with Morgan and breaks up with Sarah, say what? HEROES hits rock bottom and Matt Dallas shows his rock hard… abs!

THE BIGGEST LOSER 7 pisses Ducky off and shockingly Kath watched! PRIVILEGED aired what may have been it’s series finale and is to be continued but when considering The CW renewed a bunch of shows already. AMERICAN IDOL continues to rock on while randomly REAPER returns.

TOP CHEF has a shocking finale while Kath gets a shocker as she realizes she missed DAMAGES last week mid-recap.

SURVIVOR’s getting ugly, Sweeps are in March, 30 ROCK gets political, AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW kills it and I might kill Kath for something she says about BURN NOTICE.

Over on Friday’s there’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA to discuss before breezing through Sunday’s THE AMAZING RACE because really you just want to listen to…

TWO IDIOTS TALK LOST!

*UPDATED: This information below was based on The CW’s first initial press release which was later revised after I posted this. The Supernatural dates are wrong. The show returns January 31st and ends February 21st.

Now that we’re in 2008 and the WGA Strike is not coming to an end anytime soon, it’s time for the networks to shake things up once again. This time it’s The CW and they’re tinkering with some of my faves… not pleased.

Starting February 28th, SUPERNATURAL will not even be in repeats as The CW takes it off the schedule and replaces it with the crap that is Reaper.

Starting Monday, January 28th GOSSIP GIRL will move to Monday’s in order to dodge the freight train that is AMERICAN IDOL.

Here’s their new weekly schedule.

Monday
8-9 p.m. “Gossip Girl” (Jan. 28)
9-10 p.m. “Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious” (Feb. 18)

Tuesday
8-9 p.m. “Reaper” (Jan. 15)
8-9 p.m. “Beauty and the Geek” (March 11)
9-10 p.m. “One Tree Hill”

Wednesday (Feb. 20)
8-10 p.m. “American’s Next Top Model”
9-10 p.m. “Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious”*

Thursday
8-9 p.m. “Smallville”
9-10 p.m. “Reaper” (Feb. 28)

Friday
8-10 p.m. “WWE Friday Night SmackDown!”

Sunday (Feb. 10)
7-7:30 p.m. “CW Now”
7:30-8 p.m. “Everybody Hates Chris”*
8-8:30 p.m. “Everybody Hates Chris”
8:30-9 p.m. “Aliens in America”
9-9:30 p.m. “Girlfriends”
9:30-10 p.m. “The Game”

Happy New Year and welcome to TV in 2008 — something the likes you’ve never seen before. The WGA Strike has completely changed the landscape of television for the upcoming winter/spring season and we’re here to dish about it.

Dan and Kath are back for TV Podcast #18 and while shows are still new we’re covering the latest from Friday Night Lights, Gossip Girl, The Amazing Race, and Project Runway.

We also give you the latest counts for original episodes remaining for our favorite shows as well as returning faves like LOST, PSYCH, TORCHWOOD and KYLE XY. What about newbies like TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES and NEW AMSTERDAM? What about AMERICAN GLADIATORS? Yup, we chat about those too.

*Just a warning there are major spoilers for the finale of GOSSIP GIRL which has yet to air.

Wow, when did Tuesday night become a wasteland for DVR catch ups? I used my time wisely and instead of watching The CW’s Reaper (which honestly I’m just not that into, I’ve tried… I really have) I chose to catch up on last week’s Dirty Sexy Money (the show is coming into its own and not such a caricature of rich bitch ideology), Doctor Who (I’m still 5 away from the finale which I can’t watch the final 3 until I’ve finished the Torchwood Season 1 boxset I have because apparently Torchwood’s final episodes play heavily into the last couple Doctor Who’s – I hope to be done this weekend!), last night’s CHUCK and HEROES.

    CHUCK Versus The Tango
Gossip Girl was given the green light for a full 22 episode season today and I’m assuming that Chuck won’t be far behind giving Josh Schwartz two successful shows this season. I say that Chuck is a success because it’s made it to episode 3 and because it makes me laugh hysterically and just feel damn good about life. I heart Chuck Bartowski and his Nerd Herd pals, his nosy sister and that smokin’ hot Captain Awesome. Here’s a word of advice for Schwartzy… MORE SHIRTLESS UNDERWEAR CLAD CAPTAIN AWESOME! And more man on man tango please!

More on Chuck and Heroes after the jump…
    (more…)

Sometimes you just want to kiss Kevin Smith for his comedic genius, I’m not saying this is one of those times but here is a snippet from Smith’s interview with IGN where he talks about REAPER getting picked up and also a little bit about SUPERNATURAL.

IGN TV: [Reaper] ranked near the top in a recent TV critics poll. It was number two, right under Pushing Daisies.

Smith: Under Pushing Daisies? Right on, man. Go figure. If you would have asked me in advance if this would be one of the highest rated pilots of the new season I would have said “Um, I doubt anyone will ever see this.” It seemed implausible that CW would pick it up because they have a show that’s pretty f***ing close, in Supernatural. Supernatural is the earnest version of Reaper, right down to a guy named Sam, with him and another dude running around hunting monsters, for lack of a better description. Reaper is the comedic version of that and I was always a little perplexed at why the greenlit the pilot to be made. I thought “They’re not going to pick it up. They’re going to take one look at it, be like Supernatural is far better looking.” You watch Supernatural and it looks like a film. It’s slick and polished and s*** like that, and Reaper just has this kind of warm do-it-yourself look to it. I do think it is our most visually accomplished effort, oddly enough. I think me and Dave [Klein, Smith’s director of photography] made a better looking TV show than we’ve ever made a movie. There’s just more kinetic energy in the pilot for some reason. The camera is always moving and stuff. So I just never thought that anyone would see it because I thought that the CW would see it and whether it was good or bad, they would just be like “What were we thinking? We already have this show. F*** off!” But they kind of went for it, thank god.

I’ll take that description of SUPERNATURAL anyday. Thanks to GMMR for forwarding this.

    REAPER Logo on The CW
So REAPER has been getting some incredible reviews and I’ve received comments and emails about how wrong my assessment of the pilot was. So, tonight I rewatched the pilot and while I still don’t love it and find there to still be pacing issues and some acting issues *cough* Missy P *cough*, it was tighter and more subtle than I remembered it being.

My favorite part has to be the dog jumping outside the car door. Makes me giggle. So I’ll try and tune in next week. Promise.

After the carnage that was Monday night, Tuesday seems relatively tame. Tonight’s must see premieres are not as exciting. I have to say that I need the networks to shift some stuff off of Wednesday or Thursday to the vacant lot that is Tuesday.

    What I’ll be Watching:
    REAPER Logo on The CW
9pm – REAPER (on the CW) – While the Reaper pilot (directed by Kevin Smith) is pretty good, I can’t say that I was head over heels in love with it. I’d say more like luke warm. I love the premise and most of the cast but there are some major pacing issues with the pilot that I hope are fixed before next week’s first real episode. Regardless, tune in tonight to see Leland Palmer er, Ray Wise work his magic as the Devil. The marketing campaign has been pretty genius so I hope this show becomes the breakout CW hit. Well, that and my Gossip Girl!

Other Premieres for Wednesday, September 25th:
    Boston Legal (ABC)
    NCIS (CBS)
    The Unit (CBS)
    Bones (FOX)
    House (FOX)
    The Singing Bee (NBC)
    Law & Order: SVU (NBC)
    *New Show: CANE (CBS)

*CANE is the Jimmy Smits show about a family that owns and runs a sugar cane business and it’s pretty damn good. I just haven’t decided if its a show that I would actually watch week to week so that’s why I’ve not added it to the list of must-see’s. Check it out though and see what you guys think.

9 out of 10 dentists agree… The TV Blogging community is a semi-incestuous circle of friends and frenemies so we all collaborated on a WHAT TO WATCH THIS FALL poll.

Below you’ll see what the concensus of TV Bloggers agree are the best new shows for the Fall 2007 season. The blogs that participated are: BuzzSugar, DaemonsTV, GiveMeMyRemote, GlowyBox, MikeyLikesTV, ScooterMcGavin, SillyPipeDreams, Seat42f, TapeWorthy, theTVaddict, TiFaux and TubeTalk. We rated shows on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being hideous and 5 jaw dropping great. If we had not seen a pilot yet, a simple N/A will be present.

As you can see, PUSHING DAISIES, CHUCK, DIRTY SEXY MONEY, and REAPER are the top choices and no surprises here, CAVEMEN is the show we least want to see.

    LEGEND
1 – Don’t waste your time unless you find ACCORDING TO JIM ‘funny’
2 – Not great but at least doesn’t offend me.
3 – Fun to watch if nothing else is on.
4 – Has potential. Worth a second look.
5 – Set your TiVo to Season’s Pass!
    N/A – Haven’t watched yet.

I would like to say though that I am way off in my rating for Private Practice. I gave it a higher rating out of spite as I was in my Grey’s funk and after seeing the first real episode, I’m pretty worried about Addy and Co. I’m revising my Private Practice to a 3.

Let me know if this helps you guys at all!
