Think of the shows you love and then think of why you love them. It’s often the writing, the direction, the wardrobe or the music but more than likely its the colorful characters that grace our screens from week to week.

There are characters on every show that will live on forever in my heart and mind. Characters that make a show 1000% better than it probably is and characters I wish could just pop up in new shows year after year.

In honor of these cramazing characters, I decided to create a new segment here on Ducky Does TV called “TV Characters I Want Back In My Life”.

To kick off the series, I chose one of the most outlandish, bat-shit-crazy characters in the history of television.

In 1999, Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck, Glee) created the campiest high schooler I’d ever seen in the fur loving, dumb as a stump Glamazon, Mary Cherry!

While Brooke and Spam Sam were supposed to be the focus of the series, the real reason to tune in were the wacky caricatures Nicole and her on-again-off-again sidekick Mary Cherry. Portrayed by the hilarious Leslie Grossman, Mary Cherry was the comedy gold of this WB dramedy.

Whether singing “It’s a Hard Knock Life” or worshiping Gwyneth Paltrow there was never a misstep in absurdity or mockery. How many TV characters outwardly threatened to club baby seals for fashion or had a hideous Up With People background? When she wasn’t calling Harrison by the wrong name, she was plotting and scheming with her Mother Cherry Cherry and always making me laugh my ass off.

I salute you Mary Cherry and can only hope your character makes an appearance in Murphy’s newest offbeat high school series, GLEE!

Check out some of Mary Cherry’s best (and worst) moments:
