We survived another snow storm and another podcast! This week, the TV Talk Podcast gives you our thoughts on the winners and losers at this years GOLDEN GLOBES AWARDS.

DAMAGES Season 3 is hot on our heels and we briefly discuss the first two hours. Patty, Ellen and Tom are back for a killer season of manipluation and a sharp game of cat and mouse.

The most satisfying news from the winter TCA press tour revolves around the timeline for the next two seasons of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

PROJECT RUNWAY returns to New York City and the reunion feels so good! Heidi, Michael, Nina and Tim Gunn try to make it work with a new back of 16 designers. We’re already in love!

AMERICAN IDOL kicked off another season and Ducky may or may not be back on the bandwagon.

It wouldn’t be a TV podcast unless we talked about the Leno/Conan Late Night Debacle. What a shit-show…

Oh and did I mention we talk about AVATAR? Why not!

We end this week’s podcast with some fun and games! Get ready for a few rounds of “Would You Rather”: TV Edition.

The 67th Golden Globes Awards air tonight on NBC! I’m not a person that puts a lot of stock in awards shows but I do love me an awards show gathering. It’s chips and dip time y’all! Oh and the fact that Ricky Gervais is hosting makes this must watch television.

As I sit here this morning looking at the list of Golden Globes nominees, I’m realizing I don’t have much of an opinion when it comes to the film categories. Apparently I spend too much time watching films that grace the festival circuit and not the multiplex.

Does that mean I don’t have an opinion? Hardly, I always have an opinion!

Here’s how I’d like to see the Golden Globes shakedown when they air tonight (my picks are in bold). I’m not saying this is what I think will win, but in my heart what I wish would take home the golden sparkly thing. Let’s start with TV!

Best Television Series: Drama
“Mad Men”
“True Blood”
“Dexter”
“Big Love”
“House”
I really wanted to say TRUE BLOOD but some of that Maryann shit got cuckoo bananas and derailed the show at times. MAD MEN is always fucking crazy good but this season took some time to completely hook me. DEXTER on the other hand had possibly its best season to date. So gooooooooood!

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series: Drama
Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”
Hugh Laurie, “House”
Michael C. Hall, “Dexter”
Simon Baker, “The Mentalist”
Bill Paxton, “Big Love”
No contest in my opinion… Michael C. Hall should win. He played the charming, dutiful husband and father with LEAVE IT TO BEAVER grace but he also played a manic, hell bent, jealous and at times loose canon Dex this season. Scary good.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series: Drama
Anna Paquin, “True Blood”
Kyra Sedgwick, “The Closer”
Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife”
Glenn Close, “Damages”
January Jones, “Mad Men”
While I thought January Jones did a killer job this season, she’s no Glenn Close. But I didn’t pick Glenn Close because I’m ready for a newbie this year. I’m going with Julianna Margulies because her controlled yet crazy empowering portrayal of Alicia Florrick is mesmerizing to watch.

Best Television Series: Comedy
“30 Rock”
“The Office”
“Glee”
“Modern Family”
“Entourage”
Surely most of you thought I’d pick GLEE for this category. While I think it has a better chance at winning (I mean its hands down the most original series of the year), I’m still going with MODERN FAMILY! Family continues to be a smart, witty, laugh out loud dark family comedy that hits your heart from week to week. Best Series in any category… Period!

The rest of my Golden Globes TV and Film predictions are after the jump… (more…)

Fall Schmall… The Winter 2010 TV schedule is cuckoo-bananas! Ducky and GMMR sat down, screeners in hand, mapped out all the premiere dates and dished the dirt on all the new and returning shows.

What did we think of the first 5 episodes of CHUCK Season 3? What about the new season of 24 featuring Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff)? What about new shows like LIFE UNEXPECTED, THE DEEP END, CAPRICA, HAPPY TOWN and HUMAN TARGET?

Want to know when DAMAGES, LOST, SOUTHLAND, GLEE and NURSE JACKIE return? Want to know how long you have to wait for Lauren Graham to shine in PARENTHOOD? How many more weeks until the return of TV Talk’s recurring listener fave “2 Idiots Talk LOST”?

Find all this out and more as we pour over everything Winter 2010 has to offer us TV fanatics! Click here to listen to the latest TV Talk Podcast!

Ducky’s back from vacation which means it’s time for another TV Talk Podcast! We have almost 3 weeks to cover so make yourself some tea, get a snack and settle in for the soothing cackles and rants we’re about to sling your way.

We start as we always do, Monday nights. BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER continues to be the best damn double bill on television. CHUCK goes to the suburbs, tests his best friendship with Morgan and breaks up with Sarah, say what? HEROES hits rock bottom and Matt Dallas shows his rock hard… abs!

THE BIGGEST LOSER 7 pisses Ducky off and shockingly Kath watched! PRIVILEGED aired what may have been it’s series finale and is to be continued but when considering The CW renewed a bunch of shows already. AMERICAN IDOL continues to rock on while randomly REAPER returns.

TOP CHEF has a shocking finale while Kath gets a shocker as she realizes she missed DAMAGES last week mid-recap.

SURVIVOR’s getting ugly, Sweeps are in March, 30 ROCK gets political, AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW kills it and I might kill Kath for something she says about BURN NOTICE.

Over on Friday’s there’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA to discuss before breezing through Sunday’s THE AMAZING RACE because really you just want to listen to…

The gang over at Showtime was gracious enough to send bloggers the first 4 episodes of their new dramedy THE UNITED STATES OF TARA and I’m head over heels in love!

Tara is a artist/decorator married with children and multiple personalities (aka “alters”) who stops taking her meds to feel more in touch with her life, family, sex and self. She has dissociative identity disorder (DID) and now that she’s off her meds, the alters that were once under control are now slipping through the cracks and making appearances in Tara’s life at the most inopportune times.

In the premiere we’re introduced to two alters but by episode two, all three have appeared. Below is my breakdown of the alters. Warning: mild spoilers ahead:

T – a 15 year old thong wearing, f-bomb slinging sex pot of a pain in the ass teen that tries to seduce Tara’s husband and corrupt their daughter Kate while making fun of their son Marshall. T is a hoot! She’s a typical teen and it’s incredibly strange and unnerving to watch the Mom interact with her kids as a peer. It’s even creepier to see her try to seduce her Tara’s husband. Sure it’s his wife’s body but it clearly is not her mind so what’s a man to do?

BUCK – watching Toni Collette turn into this chain smoking, homophobic, racist, butch, ass kicking truck driver is amazing. There is no hint of Collette (or Tara) once Buck arrives. He’s a buddy to Tara’s husband, an embarrassment to Tara’s daughter and a terrorist to Tara’s gay son yet everyone takes Buck in strides. He’s brash but below that porn loving surface is a man that has good intentions and is looking out for his/Tara’s family.

ALICE – Tara’s third alter doesn’t make an appearance in tonight’s premiere but she does show up in episode 2. Alice is kind of like Bree from Desperate Housewives but she scares me more. Alice wants the appearance of perfection, at any cost yet she’s the most dysfunctional and possibly destructive of the alters. While Tara and her husband Max have an agreement that he won’t sleep with the alters, Alice could care less. She eventually goes as far as telling Max that she’d like to have a baby with him… like I said, she’s going to be trouble.

Finally, some stuff is starting to leak about Showtime’s new multiple personality disorder comedy THE UNITED STATES OF TARA starring Toni Collette and John Corbett.

I’ve been dying for this show ever since it was announced and I’m even more excited now.

Watch Toni Collette, John Corbett and writer Diablo Cody talk about The United States of Tara:

The United States of Tara will be coming to Showtime soon…

The United States of Tara (Coming to Showtime)

Sure, Diablo Cody has been put through the wringer and called everything from a genius to a hack whore since JUNO kicked ass this past year but that doesn’t mean the girl is going anywhere. In fact, it’s finally official that her new TV venture is a-go over at Showtime!

THE UNITED STATES OF TARA has been greenlit for 12 episodes and stars “You’re terrible Muriel” Toni Collette and somehow still sexy as frak John Corbett. TARA is a half hour comedy about a woman (and mother) with dissociative identity disorder. Wait, this is a comedy?

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

Story lines will examine how a dysfunctional family copes with the various identities that might appear on any given day and range in age, temperament and even gender.

Cody will continue to serve as a writer; she also will exec produce along with Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank of DreamWorks TV and Alexa Junge. Craig Gillespie (“Lars and the Real Girl”) directed the pilot.

“Showtime is known as the home of several shows featuring flawed main characters, and we welcome Tara — and all her alternate personalities — to the fold,” Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt said.

He added that Cody and Collette make for “a combination of inspired writing and acting that raises this show from just a curiosity to a compelling examination of a modern family.”

I love that Cody is going to stay on as a writer for the show. It almost guarantees some great dialogue and inappropriate situations! I’m officially psyched!
